Pilgrim’s Progress – Venus Sextile Galactic Center

It may seem a bit early in the calendar year to pause and take stock, but the current astrology is providing just such an opportunity when Venus in Aquarius sextiles the Galactic Core in Sagittarius on Wednesday. This particular aspect combines several factors, indicating an auspicious time for self-evaluation.

The sextile favors connection. Venus, in turn, is serendipitously positioned to help you feel your way through big stuff. Conversely, the center of our galaxy is a route by which the big stuff can get through to us. Finally, the timing will allow you to be present and perceptive in an episode of respite between the periodic percussions of crashing waves. You will be able to feel when that interval of relief comes, with its chance to ascertain the progress of your pilgrimage into a new year. The trick will be to keep yourself positioned at a favorable angle to take advantage of the opening when it appears.

When it comes to the angular relationships of astrology, a sextile is not only favorable but also fundamental. Specifically a separation of 60 degrees, the sextile is the shortest commonly used interval by which non-adjacent signs find consonance through the relative position of the planets located within them. Hence, objects in sextile can be considered to be in conversation, close enough to hear each other, but not so close to be as of the same voice. The conversation of a sextile is the last critical connection that precedes, and the first that follows, a conjunction. In the case of this week’s aspect between Venus and the Galactic Center, it is a follow-up conversation.

The most recent conjunction between Venus and the core of our galaxy took place just as the last week of November was getting underway. Shortly thereafter, all sorts of big stuff precipitated. An eclipse cycle, a Mercury retrograde and a change of season were foremost among those consequential occurrences. The nature and frequency of those precipitating events was such that the symbolic merger of personal (Venus) with cosmic (Galactic Center) may have been under your radar or just plain lost in the din. This first follow-up conversation is thus a chance to catch up, with the benefit of perspective that elapsed time provides. The cause of perception is further enhanced not only by the elapsed time, but also by the present position of Venus.

Venus, currently positioned in fixed, airy Aquarius, allows us to step back from personal feelings without losing contact with them. The nature of an air sign is inherently intellectual and objective. Its titular association with the eleventh house makes Aquarius the most evolved expression of air by taking it to the communal level. The fixed quality places a premium on that which is lasting, conferring an affinity for codification. That combination necessarily creates a distance from the immediate and spontaneous rapture of passion, but compensates with an aptitude for intentional and conscious compassion. Venus, therefore, is not impaired in Aquarian raiment. The Venusian sense of unification and equilibrium are not only preserved but informed of the big picture to which we are each connected. All of that is not only consistent with the nature of the sextile aspect but also in sympathy with what the center of our galaxy represents.

The center of a galaxy’s rotation is the biggest unifying principle we know of. Past that level of scale, there are no more centers, no further frames of reference, as the space-time fabric of the universe expands beyond definition without limit or direction. If there is a unifying consciousness to all that, it does not correspond to physical experience in a human body. All of us, however, can relate to a core, no matter how big, how far away, or how mysterious its makeup. It is a state of completion fostered by attraction. If you have ever left the ground, you have also returned to it. If you have ever witnessed a cycle, you have seen a beginning in every end. If you have ever gone beyond witnessing to participating, you will have communicated in harmony with creation itself. Finally, if you can perceive your connection with creation, you will have attained a perspective from which you can evaluate your progress as a pilgrim in body, on the Earth.

That’s the opportunity presented by Venus, moving rapidly through Aquarius, applying to sextile the still point in Sagittarius that shows us the way back home. It is a chance to catch up to the core within your physical being and feel its connection with all the centers we have in common. Those common centers in turn, make us one with all things. The extent to which you can feel one-with will make you aware of where you are in your journey. All you have to do this week is be conscious that the moment will come. You will know it by a sense of stillness, by its place in your heart, by the time in your life. Stay as close to being present and aware in each moment as you can, look for the opening and let yourself in.

  1. I don’t have suitable words to convey my gratitude to you, Len, for your very powerful wisdom at this important juncture in this planetary journey.

A look back to Thanksgiving time, and also back to the beginning of October (when Venus and the GC had their first sextile conversation), this is the perspective of time/space that enables the stilness and to be present in the now to figure out where I am, and where I am going. I have copied and printed your last two paragraphs in bold indigo to carry me through this week, and beyond.

    Much gratitude.

  2. Huffing, Hugging, Getcalm and be: Thank you for your kind words. It gives me joy to know my service has been useful to you.

  3. Isn’t that the truth? Perspective is not something you get when you are right on top of something, or it is on top of you. Elapsed time provides that perspective and is vital to understanding how to piece it into the framework of all that is your life. Who in this day and age can fathom something as unfathomable as the Galactic Core? If you were not here to tell us Len, we might not realize that on Wednesday we will get a glimpse, maybe a thought of how to incorporate into our lives whatever it was that happened to us that last week of November. Thanksgiving day in fact. I hadn’t thought of the sextile in that way. Thank you!

  4. I always find it useful when you can point to the time references between opening and closing cycles (eg, this first conversation began the last week of November). Those kind of references help me to put events into context and make sense of what the next event might look like, or what I should look for.

For me, I entered into a six week separation period the last week of November and will have my first contact with my partner on this Wednesday.

Much has happened in these six weeks and I can see how what started the cycle is in context as we reconnect for this first new conversation.

Like Huffy, the words “You will know it by a sense of stillness, by its place in your heart, by the time in your life. Stay as close to being present and aware in each moment as you can, look for the opening and let yourself in” are more resonant for me than you can imagine.

Always grateful when the text helps to contextualize something for me and allows me a way to prepare. Many thanks.

  5. Your lovely article coincides with a meditation I had yesterday in the park in the Sun, where I simply said that I promised to act as soon as an opening presented itself. In my way to respect the evolution of aspects of my life and to allow things to happen naturally. This is a comforting assurance of that prayer Len.
    Many thanks,
    HS

  6. “You will know it by a sense of stillness, by its place in your heart, by the time in your life. Stay as close to being present and aware in each moment as you can, look for the opening and let yourself in” … these words (and most of your blog) – have been creeping on the edge of my consciousness – you’re helping me let them in. Thanks so much dear Len. xx
