But here’s a chance to change your mind, `cuz I’ll be gone a long, long time.
— Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
The Scorpio Sun spends this week approaching a square with Neptune in Aquarius. That will provide a practical opportunity to actually feel the astrology. This particular opportunity will not repeat again in your lifetime. It will be easy. It may even be important. All you have to do is observe yourself and take note as the week goes along. Since the issue you will be tracking is the direction and level of your energy, it would be appropriate to start with the source.
Sun is the actual light of day. In astrology it is the archetype of consciousness. In both cases the simple is also pervasive. Right now, Sun is in Scorpio. The solar tenure in Scorpio is likewise plain yet profound. It is a threshold between seasons. When Sun first entered Scorpio three weeks ago, the sign’s fixed quality revealed the preceding transformations while only hinting at manifestations yet to emerge. Now, the trend has inclined the other way. You can see it yourself. With each day the season approaching is more evident than the season passing. As Sol enters its last week in Scorpio, the gradient of divergence will become ever more steep, simultaneously demanding and depleting your energy. That’s what happens at the end of a sign, but it serves a purpose.
Finnish astrologers Kirsti Melto and Raimo Nikula have discerned in the late, or anaretic, degrees of any sign “the possibility to purify the soul so that a new life experience is possible.” That’s the demand and it would appear to be more than enough, but there is also the requisite that “first you may have to face those things which rise from the unconscious.” That’s where the depletion is, and it’s no wonder many of us feel a certain fatigue as Sun approaches the end of a sign. As if that were not enough, Neptune appears ready to double down on that bet.
Neptune, the man behind the curtain, is in the last few months of nearly 14 years in fixed Aquarius, where individual and collective come together. If you accept those characterizations, of planet and sign, the perspective held forth by Ms. Melto and Mr. Nikula finds perfect expression in the Occupy Movement. As Neptune traces the anaretic degrees of Aquarius one last time, individual discontent has found common expression in the demands that would purge our collective soul of the burdens that inhibit a new life experience for all of humanity. First, however, we must face the things that arise from the level of consciousness that created the problems in the first place. That starts inside, where the the depleting divergence resides.
In astrology both squares and oppositions happen when two points in the sky or on a chart are in different signs that share the same quality, either cardinal, fixed or mutable. With an opposition, the two points are 180 degrees apart, suggesting something stuck on the outside where everybody participates. With a square, the separation is 90 degrees. That aspect implies something stuck on the inside where you live with yourself. It is a private and internal tension that clamors for awareness and saps energy unless and until you act to resolve it. If you find that tension corresponding to objects in the anaretic degrees of their respective signs, it usually means it is getting old. That’s the case with with Sun and Neptune.
If you have been alive for at least fifteen years, a Scorpio Sun squaring Neptune in Aquarius has been an annual event in your life going back to the previous century. That run is about to end. If you have not felt or dealt with it before, you can probably survive ignoring it again, but if you do, a door will close and something will move on without you.
So if you find yourself with really low energy this week, it might actually be good news. Assuming you are in good health, it may mean that something inside you gets it, feels it and wants to do something about it. It may even mean that the appropriate place to direct your action is not in the center of town but in the center of your consciousness. That would seem to be the case with Sun square Neptune, a chance to change your mind before you try to change the world.

be: Thank you. You always make sense, quite brilliantly, i might add. The phenomenon you reiterated seems to work in either case.
zero.. . . I meant “natal” not “solar” sun cycle. Make sense?
zerosity,
If it helps, I remember reading that it is typical for us to feel exhausted as we near the end of a transiting Sun to solar Sun cycle. (Perhaps those others are just faking it!) Anyway, that’s always what happens to me too.
To all the nappers, snoozers, sleep late-ers, you are not alone. Most likely all that galactic and solar energy blasting our bod’s with cosmic fine-tuning. All the better to serve you in the future my dears.
Len thanks again for increasing our awareness. ” An opposition. . . suggesting something stuck on the outside”, and the square “implies something stuck on the inside” is quite brilliant. (goddess help those of us with a t-square!)
be
AS one of those high energy people, who only needs 6 hours of sleep, this past week or 2 if I go horizontal I fall asleep, day or night…………. most unfamiliar to me!
I have been dealing with major conceptual issues/direction, with my artwork.
As usual Len you have spelled it out in a very concrete, easy to digest, way.
H S I think we are walking similar paths. My N Moon is Scorpio square the T Neptune.
( on the MC)
I have T Saturn opposing Natal Saturn & T Pluto opposing N Chiron.
Time for a nap now………..
Transiting Neptune has been slogging its way through my sixth house. Transiting Saturn, recently emerging from my Second Saturn return, has recently been conjunct my natal Neptune, in my second house. Natal Chiron in my fourth house is trine transiting Jupiter in my eighth house, on the cusp of the ninth house. By mid-February, Jupiter will be in my ninth house. All this with a Scorpio Sun.
Why is it every year near my solar return I become exhausted physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually? Most want to party around their birthdays, but not me. This year, and in a fourteen year retrospect, thanks to Len’s words, I have a better idea of why I’m tired. Thanks, Len, for the great insight into the current sky events and past ones. I think I’ll do as Huffy suggests, take it easier this week, avoid illness (physical, mental and spiritual) and prepare for Jupiter’s move to a new house, working with the low energy.
Thanks, all, for additional insights in your shared experiences

A simple ‘thank you’ Len 🙂 It is that time for me and for one very close to me.
Huffy, Hugging, Annie and aword: Sincere thanks for your kind words.
Thanks, Len. Really really useful. Thank you.
Yep, fer sure the past 14ish years have been one long slow tedious yet never boring break-through. This last week I have slowed waaaay down, almost sick but not quite, got the messsage through that vehicle and stayed mostly focused on personal intent, didn’t sweat the small stuff and kept conversation and socialization to a minimun quantity with maximum quality.
OK then. Forward still; ever forward.
Thank you Len – I am feeling incredibly and unbelievably tired for no ‘known’ reason – this throws a whole new perspective!
Hugging Scorpio – thanks for sharing x
Thank you Len! Yes, I’ve been feeling this aspect brewing in different ways on different levels over the past 14-15 years. As with all things astrological, there are evolving elements that work to take us deeper and to give us more awareness, esp if we want it. So many aspects are coming together for me personally that really started building since October. With all the squares and oppositions and conjunctions with Neptune/Chiron points, the Full Moon on my birthday, and my exact Pluto square tomorrow (Cap 5.52 to my natal Libra 5.52). All this happening in my Sun sign, well, it’s pretty palpable.
And despite my feeling tired or unsure of my future, I have this joy that is bubbling up from a place within me that is so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve been given recently to grow and face the fears that were holding me captive for so many years. What started as a safe environment to live and create my Art, turned into a psychological encasement which demanded attention and nourishment, which demanded that I speak and face the very source of it. And to do so meant the destruction of an infrastructure based so disproportionately on “other”, on service.
I knew that when Neptune retrograded back into Aquarius, I’d be finishing up and readdressing something important. And the culmination I’ve felt and am feeling now finally feels good because I’ve been speaking up, making a stand, and addressing all those who wish to hold me back with the full force of my consciousness. I’m now operating from a sacred space of self love, and I hope very much that I’ve done as well as I feel I have on these tests and opportunities.
Thanks for letting me share this, and sorry if I’m a bit self absorbed.
Gratitude and Love!
Hugging Scorpio
Gosh. Thanks dear Len. You’ve explained so much here. Now I can appreciate feeling so tired at the moment, and work with it instead of resenting or fighting it.
