Personal Matters – Venus and Mercury enter Sagittarius

Venus enters Sagittarius Wednesday shortly before 5 am EDT. Mercury follows eight hours later. Before lunchtime on Thursday, both Venus and Mercury will each have taken their turns with a square to Chiron in Pisces and a fire trine to Uranus in Aries. That is a large number of incidents in a short period of time. It will be at once reasonable and useful to consider it all as a single event. For you, this concurrent aggregate of ingress and aspects will imply a challenge that is also an exceptional opportunity to see the forest without losing track of the trees. We can start with the trees.

Every object in astrology functions as an archetype, representing something in your life. Venus correlates with matters of attraction and its counterpart, repulsion. Most of us are aware of what we find attractive. Fewer are conscious of what we attract to ourselves. Mercury corresponds to mind making itself known. It’s not unusual to know your own mind, or express it. It takes a little more effort to receive the thoughts of another. Our relationship to any given planetary archetype is most clearly revealed when the planet changes sign.

When an object first enters any sign, the archetype is conserved but its visage is altered. For the last several weeks, both Venus and Mercury have been expressing their essence from behind the mask of Scorpio, a fixed water sign. During that period, now closing, any patterns of thought or fascination initiated in late September may have been either persisted with or transformed as they were carried forward, depending on the choices you made. In all likelihood it was a series of experiences intuitively related to each other by their emotional content, along with a sense of outward confrontation connecting to inward tension. Even as that process is approaching culmination, it is now time to anticipate a substantial shift.

When Venus and Mercury move into Sagittarius, they will be entering a mutable sign associated with the element of fire. The quality of mutability has to do with accepting the inevitability of change and being a part of it. It is not always easy to divest oneself of attachment to a structure you have been given. It is that much more challenging to move on if you have invested your own time and effort into constructing, maintaining and identifying with a paradigm. A mutable sign reminds us that the natural order of things is cyclical, not static. The ancient element identified with Sagittarius makes that reminder more of a summons.

Fire signs are nothing if not energetic. In Aries it was the elemental assertion of self. In Leo it was the outward expression. With Sagittarius comes the expansive process of integration. That involves putting your energy in a different place. It requires that you let go of being the center of attention so that you can direct your attention to the center. That is a big shift that many people come to only when compelled by outer forces. The circumstances of our time are such that you would be better off to integrate your free will with the natural order. That’s where Venus and Mercury come in.

Venus entering Sagittarius is an arousal to contribute. It is the allure of taking a role in political decisions that will shape your personal life. Mercury in Sagittarius is going beyond speaking your mind and taking the step of adding your voice to those of like mind. That’s a big step. If it is not to become a stumble, it will require a new awareness of the whole. For that step to develop into a stride, or better yet, a dance, we will need to see each other separately and all of us at once. It will begin with a look inside.

When Venus and Mercury square Chiron, it will be a gut check. It will be the inner challenge of coming face to face with how you can best strengthen, rather than weaken something greater than any one of us. As Venus and Mercury trine Uranus, you will have the opportunity to know what that is. Nobody’s perfect. None of us will ever be completely ready. Nevertheless we are being gifted with a moment to live as we have never lived before. Not everybody will get it, or want to.

Some may escape into novelty, content to experience and acquire, rather than attain and share. Others may be overwhelmed, surrendering their will rather than contributing it. All of us will be challenged to know the difference, but meeting that challenge consciously will allow you to better appreciate every person and realize what a wondrous one people really are.

  1. my sincere thanks Len for your perspective and input. I appreciate it!

aword: thanks for the hug! πŸ˜‰

  2. Thank you Len-your article has enlightened me to the possibilities of my own path, being on the threshold of so much at the moment-so many decisions and possible paths! I am a Sagittarius, Rising Sign too, plus Moon in Aries, so exciting times indeed:)

    Best Wishes, Amelie πŸ™‚

  3. Hugging Scorpio: Thank you for your question. What you describe feels like something going on between your first house and seventh house. You say you are a Libra ascendant. That would make your chart ruler Venus. You might want to check what house your natal Venus in in. Since you are a solar Scorpio your Sun is near the ascendant. You may want to check on what is opposing it. This is not to discount your theory about the 12th house. You could have a point about pre-birth. The way you phrased your inquiry, however, sounds more like a relationship transit going on. Since it is annual, you should look at what the Sun, Mercury, Venus and (possibly) the Moon are transiting in your natal and progressed charts at this time of year.

be, mystes and aword: Thank you for your kind and generous comments.

  4. Thank you Len. Having – to this date – mostly ignored Sagg except to note that natal Saturn lives there, I now have an interest in learning more about that sign and already have a list of ideas to consider – now that they no longer feel too mundane or too scary (regarding said natal Saturn placement.)

With Moon/Eris in Aries and AC/Uranus in Leo I guess I have some discovery to do re: Fire signs.

I can practically see the world around me shifting these days – it is like watching life through a kaleidoscope – and as beautiful.

I have no astro-advice for you Hugging, but I do have Hugs!! >:D<

    Ah yes M: Shalom Samhain indeed;
Safe and Fun night to all!

  5. Thank you Len!

May I ask you something? Almost every year in the week prior to my birthday (Nov 10), I get this really lonely feeling. I feel isolated and almost squeezed between my inner self and the outward experiences. Like the 12th house is super magnified. I have a lot of inner tension that I don’t/can’t turn to anyone about. But I’m Libra rising, so it’s not really my 12th, more like my “Solar” 12th. I’m not even making sense… Maybe my cells are remembering my prebirth womb experience. Can you or Eric help, or is it really something in my natal that needs a deeper reading.

I’d appreciate any feedback, from anyone.
    Cheers,
    HS

  6. Yes, Be, thanks for underscoring some of this beautiful insight. Len, over the last month you have done a bang-up job of making Venus-in-Scorp (almost) bearable.

But I am seriously seriously ready to have Her roll over to Sagg where she and Jupiter can be in mutual reception. With Sagg-rising, and Thursday being Jupiter’s day, I expect to see Venus shimmy off some of that black Scorpionic glitter and do Her best Mae West (who was a Leo, but close enough…)

There’s a bunch of Truth *and* Consequences coming into my life right now – but V/in/Scorp makes me twitch and blurt where I need to be clear and cool (and kind).

    Is it Thursday yet?

    ***
Time to go buy candles and Lone Star … the gone-girly’s fave (sigh).

    Shalomsamhain,

    M

  7. No it is not always easy to divest oneself of attachment to a structure Len, you are so right. But when you do get an opportunity to see the forest it can be very persuasive. How wonderful that you remind us we will get a reminder that things aren’t static, although they can seem that way sometimes when the Scorpio influence is so potent.

This last week has been a come-uppance for me of the June-July eclipses and solstice and those transiting-but-static lunar nodes. Shame on me for forgetting about all that and now the Universe has seen fit to remind me at a time when my fixed natal Uranus is being bombarded. Even so, I’ve been graced with a few ‘in the nick of time’ saves that make me believe I’m still part of that ‘wonderous one people’ we are. You have done a great job again with today’s offering Len, thank you. I’m looking forward to Wednesday now, and not just because it’s Senior Day at Krogers!
