  1. haven’t had time to super-read the Irene landfall chart yet, but in addition to Pholus’ position in the chart and the Ground Hog (coming up fr. the ‘bottom’) being a weather prognosticator
    (Sag 14+ = 15),
Rudhyars’ text re: this symbol are suggestive of an action (Sadge- pointing arrow in a direction to focus on ) upon educating of ourselves of the “study of past trends and extrapolation of the results”.

” What above all is implied …is a sensitivity to social or planetary rhythms, and the need to ensure at least relative safety by planning ahead. In our modern industrial society, where policy changes and decisions often take several years to reach full actualization, it has become essential to plan with an eye on probable future developments. ”

interesting. I guess first we all need to agree on climate change in general, global warming in particular, and funding for disasters to be readily available. (tying-in to what you said in the edition re: Cantor, etc.) not to mention progressive energy sources…

given that we (collectively) for many generations have been pumping all kinds of toxins and CO2 and particulates, etc. into our atmosphere, indeed, I think we definitely are seeing/having to deal with “stuff your grandparents and great grandparents did not deal with” “big blast” is an understatement in regards to what Mother Earth will attempt to do to cleanse herself.

anyway, just another viewpoint fr. the hinterlands.

BTW: big Shout Out for attending, photographing and publishing the casket of Pfc. Douglas Corto who died in Afghanistan. it was a nice reminder for me, anyway, that on this Labor Day weekend, to honor those who Labor for US, and Serve us.

plus I love when you publish the sorts. go technical, baby!

    thanks PW
    peace.

  2. What came to mind as I read this morning was this: “There is chaos in heaven and on earth: the situation is excellent.”

I don’t remember if that is a Chinese proverb or a Maoism, or even exactly right. Makes sense though.

Thanks, Eric, lots to think about and digest – as usual!

  3. Eric: Excellent cohesion and consistency with your Daily Astrology blog today. Thank you for the parallax. Also, the last sentence would seem to be another (concise and very well phrased) candidate “for the very issue” of western civilization itself.

    darkmary:
Good point on the relationship between hexigrams 18 and 17. If you look at the Gua, you will notice that the upper and lower trigrams are opposite AND inversed – this is no accident and is at the root of the connection you have made. We (at this point) have no idea what translation Eric was using. Many translations are problematic. Nevertheless, speaking as someone who has seriously studied the I Ching, it seems that Eric did a very good job of getting at the gist of it. Certainly, you have added something vary valuable and for that please accept my heartfelt thanks.

  5. my thoughts exactly. just spent the last hour reading and re-reading.

    fucking brilliant.

it’s all just whirling in my head right now. so nothing relevant to say. but just know that i deeply deeply appreciated this piece!! deeply.

  6. Wow, Eric, I am kind of blown away by how much you chocked into this week’s subscriber’s issue. I will chew on it more than once I am sure. My natal Pluto is at 14+ Virgo and I am looking forward to investigating and feeling into how all of those asteroids and the Great Attractor are playing out in my life. It is a lot of powerful energy to sort through.

Aside from the astrology, I thought it was really interesting that you opened the book of the I Ching to hexagram 18. A lot of interpretations I have read point to the energy of the hexagram being not just of disruption, but corruption. Perhaps it is semantics, but the implication is that disruption may or may not be an organic chaos, but corruption is brought about by a man-made degradation of natural processes. In fact Wilhelm/Baynes calls this hexagram “Work on What Has Been Spoiled.” In both instances, whether the disruption was brought about by an organic process or a man-made one, there is opportunity for change and growth and that is, indeed, the good news. What this says to me is that if your random divination was indeed commenting on Hurricane Irene, it is saying that the Hurricane was brought about, in part, by old, destructive man-made patterns, not just Mother Nature (perhaps pointing to the effects of global warming or other intentional disregard.)

I’ll quote from Hilary Barnett, author of I-Ching: Walking Your Path, Creating Your Future.

“Jane Schorre says in Yijing Wondering and Wandering that,
“Sui [hexagram 17] signifies compliance with the flowing, organic patterns of nature. Gu [hexagram 18] signifies deviation from them, resulting in deterioration and disorder.”

“I almost agree. Hexagram 17 certainly does Follow the patterns of nature – and especially it describes the experience of flowing with those patterns towards our own objectives….There are also patterns being followed in Hexagram 18 – patterns just as strong, and just as far beyond the scope of ordinary conscious awareness. The difference is that these are locked, repeating patterns, not going anywhere useful. LiSe Heyboer calls them ‘alien influences embedded in the soul,’ and so they are – though they are often so deeply embedded as to seem part of the fabric of reality. These are inherited patterns, often imprinted in childhood, maybe through many generations or across a whole culture.”

In fact the specific lines of this hexagram delineate the corruption of the ancestral mother and father, not unlike Pholus pointing to “several generations of buried or previously encapsulated karma. When Pholus is on the scene, you’re dealing with stuff your grandparents and great grandparents did not deal with, be it family karma or that of society. And we are getting a big blast of this right now.”

I thought the coincidence was too powerful not to point out. Thanks for such a rich subscriber issue.
