As the astrology of 2012 heats up, politics will too. During times like these, we often turn to our friend Nancy Sommers and her blog, Starlight News — a concise and welcome resource for political astrology. Here is her entry on Texas Governor Rick Perry, one of the more strident potential Republican nominees to challenge President Barack Obama in the 2012 general elections. — fb

Another swaggering, brash Texas Governor appealing to America’s shallow desire for simple, bold answers to complex problems. What could possibly go wrong? Terrorists? Smoke ‘em out! Need jobs? Get out of the way of business! It is easy as apple pie. All those pesky little details like insufficient wages, unaffordable health care, deteriorating education, crumbling infrastructure, and unregulated pollution will just sort themselves out by the magic of the free market. Welcome to the world of Rick Perry, the overnight sensation and GOP frontrunner for the presidency of the United States.
According to Rick Perry, not only is Climate Change a hoax, but it has been pushed by money-grubbing scientists who faked the data. Not only does Perry disagree with the quantitative easing practiced by the Federal Reserve to help us out of the recession, but the Fed Chairman is treasonous for even suggesting it and would by lynched should he ever come to Texas. In Perryland, Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional, and the troops don’t respect their current Commander-in-chief, who, by the way, doesn’t really love America. Hyperbole is too soft a word to describe the Texas-sized firebombs hurled by the new arrival to the GOP podium.
Despite not having had a goodie-filled tent with which to dazzle the voters at the Iowa Straw Poll, Perry offers the meatiest, most blood-dripping smorgasbord available to the carnivorous zombies of the Republican base. For the rest of us, the goal is to keep the contagion from spreading, like it notoriously did in The Walking Dead, that AMC special where the world is ravaged by a zombie epidemic.

What we have seen in the past few days is only a mini-sized version of what we will be subjected to should Perry win the GOP nomination. Over the weekend of his official announcement, the Sun/Venus conjunction opposed his natal Jupiter (21 Aquarius) which signaled the huge and clamorous welcome he received by the media, who tripped all over themselves trumpeting his charisma while essentially drowning out the other candidates, including Michelle Bachman who had just won the Iowa Straw Poll. Meanwhile, transiting Mars moved to square Perry’s natal Mars/South Node conjunction (7-8 Libra), and we were treated to his white-hot rhetorical grenades, otherwise known as Texas swagger.
The hope from the saner among us, who would prefer future US policy based on fact rather than sound-bite, is that Perry will be put to pasture in the primaries. The long Saturn station of late December 2011 through early March 2012 will be sesquiquadrate his Sun (13Pisces36), possibly restricting and frustrating his march forward. Transiting Saturn will also oppose Jupiter (28Aries35) in the US/Perry composite (midpoint) chart during the same period, potentially adding to his difficulties.
But it is hard to overestimate the high voltage of the configuration that will take hold of Perry from May 2012 through the election and beyond. The Uranus/Pluto square of 2012 will light up his chart with Uranus conjunct the North Node (7Aries31) and square Mars (8Libra22), while Pluto is square the North Node and opposite Mars. This comes while his solar arc Venus (7Aries) will be conjunct his North Node from December 2011 through early December 2012. What this powerful configuration suggests is a very aggressive, fierce, and focused candidate (Mars/Uranus/Pluto) who will nonetheless remain very appealing (solar arc Venus) throughout 2012. Further adding to the Perry charisma quotient will be progressed Venus square natal Uranus (March 2012 through February 2013) and converse Jupiter conjunct Venus (2012 through 2016).
Although I am not yet ready to rule out other possibilities for the GOP nomination, the blazing energy manifesting through Rick Perry will be formidable. As for the November election, Perry will run into some difficulties in October (transiting Saturn semisquare natal Moon/Saturn), and in mid to late November and early December (transiting Saturn square natal Venus and quincunx natal Node). In addition, his solar return chart for March 2012 brings with it a tight Sun/Mars/Saturn/Venus configuration that could cause him some frustration and cast a shadow over the year. As much as I would like to, however, I cannot rule out the potential for a win for this brazen, right-wing radical who is cloaked in a folksy charm and ready to pack heat in any situation, both literally and figuratively.
I would also not rule out that Perry might be willing to lead a Tea Party renegade movement against the establishment Republican and President Obama if Perry is blocked in the primaries. In any event, 2012 promises to be a wild year as the Uranus/Pluto square comes into full expression for the first time, likely bringing rebellion and volatility into the public square. It also seems probable that Rick Perry will be riding the eye of the storm.
Being a resident of Houston, TX, I’ve spent many years praying for Rick Perry to leave our state. But not to occupy the WH. Not all of us Texans are Rep Rednecks, Houston is a liberal (1st gay woman mayor), international, diverse city that leans to the left. Unfortunately, Texas is a big states with many others who swagger and lean the other way.
Rick Perry’s latest scuzzy thing to do was to deprive senior citizens and those less fortunate of the money in a designated fund to provide air conditioners and assistance with their electric bills. And we happen to be in the middle of a drought and a summer of hell with temps over 100 for 30 some days now. The local electric provider has a box where you can donate to this fund when you pay your bill. No one ever told us our beloved Gov. (NOT) had the power to freeze the money in order to balance the state budget. So in true Rick form he has sacrificed the less fortunate to make himself look better.
This follows toll road gate, where he tried to let a Spanish firm build and get the revenues from a huge toll road across our state (shot down) and from his ridiculous effort to make it mandatory for all teenage girls to receive an STD vaccination (now says he didn’t do his research) while lining his pockets with money from the drug company that would provide the shots (also shot down). Sigh, sigh, sigh. I do love Texas but am certainly ashamed of the politicians that have gone national from our state.
We had a great candidate running against Perry in the last election, our former mayor Bill White. But of course Perry refused to debate him on the issues. He’s not going to be able to pull that two step move on the national scene.
Please allow me to correct myself. Mercury stations retrograde shortly after 6 pm EDT on November 6, 2010. Looks like that trickster is indeed in play. Also a good reason not to use a Noon chart unless necessary.
With all respect, the election chart for 2012 does not have a retrograde Mercury. One may fairly submit that the timing of the Mercury retrograde station in the chart for the 2000 election was the single most important feature corresponding to the recount coup. If Rick Perry becomes president in 2012 it will require something far more overt, reckless and arrogant than hanging chads.
For all of Texas’ perennial threats to secede from the union, they just don’t deliver. No time like the present, I say.
As for the 2012 election, I too sense the likelihood of a 2000 ‘recount’ coup. (And why is it so hard for even some of the liberalista’s among us to admit that we underwent a bloodless coup in this nation? Because we can’t find drapes to match the color of rage that would erupt if we admitted it?)
Rick Perry, its true, is not as fuckable as Sarah Palin. Yet I have no doubt he sees the nation as very fuckable, in true lizard style. What about a Perry/Palin ticket? Monty Python, where are ye when we need ye?
Aquarius40:
As a fellow aquarian, I also can attest to Neptune on the chart, the early part of Aquarius where my 12th house sun was affected, I did the worst damage to myself emotionally and financially, (part post-911 business decline and a big tax liability).
It all actually turned out alright when Neptune was on my Mercury in late Aquarius these last 2-3 years. That’s about the time I started writing in earnest here, appropriate for 30 Aquarius. I was meant to follow through on my star, which was and is to write.
As for Perry, he is this year’s Palin — just the right amount of red meat to stir up the lizard brains. Not as fuckable, though. Let’s hope that carries us through.
That Election 2012 chart for November looks like Year 2000 recount redux. If you’re sane — not just liberal, not just progressive, but SANE — got to keep paying attention. This guy is dangerous.

I believe that Perry will be the GOP nominee. Or, at the very least, I have NO DOUBT the nom will be fought out on the GOP convention floor. Despite the fact that these are early days, Romney can’t seem to generate any interest. I mean, none. It’s like he’s howling into the wind. Not to mention, Romney’s Magical Misery Tour is lame at best and duplicitous at worst. He’s just going nowhere. if the GOP money base tries to push him through, Perry (or Bachmann or Palin) will contest it at the convention.
Perry will run on a platform of anger. And self-rightousness that this is THEIR country and THEY want it back. Back the way it was before – well, – you know……
Romney is only running against POTUS not the other GOP contenders and this is what I see as the truly delusional aspect of Neptune. When you just don’t see who your true enemies are and what’s really happening. (I’m an Aquarius and I just lived through 10+ years of Neptune hell. I know of what I speak). I don’t think the GOP base really cares whether or not Perry’s electable; he’s one of them, he’s angry and ignorant, and they’ll fight for him.
