42nd Anniversary of Apollo 11: Catching Some Sun

On the day of the last shuttle landing, it's another space-milestone anniversary. Credit: Apollo 11, NASA (Image scanned by Kipp Teague).

Apollo 11 is the first time that a human stepped on the surface of another planet: Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made it to the Moon (which was in Libra at the time). You can read the full description of this photo at NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day. Buzz Aldrin is collecting solar wind in this shot; I have a feeling most of us are getting more than enough of the Sun’s energy today.

  1. Thank you for posting this. May it be that we abandon the wasteful ways of war so that all on Earth shall know neither ignorance or want. Then, with a consensus of intent we can embark once again to explore and expand our understanding and consciousness of the universe that went to so much trouble to give us a chance.
