Astrology Today: Oracle for Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Leo weekly of Dec. 12, 2003

The Oracle.

The reason most people work day jobs instead of pursuing their creative passions is partly economic, but mostly it’s because there’s an even greater risk involved. True creative force emanates from the most chaotic part of the soul and threatens to cancel out known reality. A poet alone can tell the truth and a painter alone can depict it. But then what becomes of all the friends in your life who are chained to their worldly principles? If you follow your current inspiration, you’ll be gambling just about everything you knew to be true in the past. Every now and then, that’s a really healthy plan, and the risk pales against the rewards.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.

  1. aword,

Now that I think of it, it may have been mystes’ tongue that told me how to say Mnemosyne’s name. I do hope your pain goes away right now.

  2. susyc,

Love your work! Someone who visits PW told me, maybe two years ago, that Mnemosyne’s name was pronounced with a silent M, as you are showing, and that I should think of Persephone’s name when saying so as I remember it, this would be how to pronounce it. . Nem-O’-see-nee. If that person is still among us, and if she reads this, please let us know if I remember this correctly.

Mnemosyne was the asteroid who was on the ascendant (or maybe the midheaven) of the chart I did for when I first started scrapbooking. I worship her still.

  3. Thank you Len for your silly catsup associations–I think Mnemosyne is getting back at you for your neglect of her with that MSG migraine! Really, the goddess of language rates some serious attention given your talents with her tools! Better light a candle to her!

Liminali, I love your light-filled name and it’s so cool that Mnemosyne is conjunct your Mercury; just think how much the Goddess of Language has to say to the Godlet of Communication!

Awordedgewise, so sorry you are not feeling well! I think the stars have been a bit hard on us all lately and don’t you find those times difficult too? Sometimes I feel like a rock in the sculptor’s hands, getting carved into shape, but ouch!

So I sent the email to my new friend who just happens to publish art books to meet with me and discuss publishing mine. It’s a mostly visual chronicle of a path to healing consisting of a series of pictures I drew myself, with an occasional poem and related dialogue that I did in my 30’s. I also have more recent writing and poems regarding that path from a more digested and informed perspective.

Scary! I’m afraid she won’t like it. But! I showed it to a friend who just happened to be talking about some issues she was having with re-mothering and re-fathering herself. These issues played a big part in how I achieved my healing. She loved it and wants me to have it published ‘as is’ to maintain fidelity to my healing process. Maybe that is how it will go. I don’t know. Then I looked up grants for women for publishing art/etc. and found one that is ideal….hmmm. Deadline coming up too soon to apply this year? Deadlines are motivating….

  4. Len, I looked for asteroids named Ketchup, Catsup, Catchup, Tomato and Condiment but alas we are provided only with 57.

Perhaps without Mnemosyne’s assistance with language, we would not have Ketchup nor Mustard, but we certainly would have no MSG induced migraines.

Mine left for 5 minutes by way of Mystes tongue on roof of mouth remedy, but there is more to the ache than meets the head.

Susy C, your poetry soothes the pounding eyes, neck, back and wounded soul.

    Thank you.

  5. susyc,

Yes, there is an asteroid named Mnemosyne, asteroid number 57. Astrodienast (astro.com) has a link in the extended chart selection to a list of 16,271 asteroids 16,608 of them have names.

I discovered my natal Mnemosyne is conjunct my natal Mercury. Thanks for asking this question, susyc! 🙂

  6. susyc,
Thank you for asking. Yes, there is an asteroid by that name (which i always forget). It is in the main belt between Mars In Jupiter. It was discovered on the Libra Equinox in 1859. Its MPC (Minor Planet Number) is 57 – which makes me think of ketchup, which makes me hungry, which always makes me get up to eat just when i’m about to write about it, which makes me forget to write about it. It’s a Titanic headache, probably from the MSG in the ketchup.

  7. The oracle reads my mail again. Here’s a poem I wrote last night.

Much Rather Write a Villanelle (or It’s a Date! Procrastinate!)
    by Susy Crandall

then I’ll forge ahead pell mell

and dodge my work instead to play

    much rather write a villanelle

    avoidance is my own chantelle

that sings me sweet a starcast lay

then I’ll forge ahead pell mell

    soul’s flight through spirit’s fontanelle

    brings back no migraine cabernet

    much rather write a villanelle

I’ll make no effort to fortell

the mythic outcome of my day

then I’ll forge ahead pell mell

I’ll look deep into Mnemosyne’s well

the goddess’ words my secret prey

    much rather write a villanelle

I’ll take a chance and ring her bell

and on her words I’ll feast away

then I’ll forge ahead pell mell

    much rather write a villanelle

    Susy Crandall

My first completed effort at writing a villanelle. Thanks Yasmeen for inspiring my procrastination! Mnemosyne is the goddess of language among other things. We poets should all be lighting candles to her! I think her name must be pronounced Nem-os-en-ay or Nem-os-en-ee. Maybe someone can help with that. Thanks! Here’s a nice website with a copyrighted essay with clear directions on how to write your own villanelle: http://www.utmostchristianwriters.com/articles/article3016.php
