Eternal June – The Last Quarter Moon

By Len Wallick

The Moon entered Aries early this morning. It exacted a square to the Cancer Sun less than 4 hours later, at about 7:49 am EDT. That means Luna has entered the last quarter of a cycle that began on the first day of June. In the course of a day it will symbolically pull the events of over three years, past and future, into the present. In the course of a week it will bring this month, year and decade to a crossroads. If you have ever wondered what it is like to peck your way out of an egg, or emerge from a chrysalis, the opportunity may be at hand. First, let us pause to catch up on the month so far.

On June 1 we had a New Moon. That means the Moon and the Sun had come together from our perspective. That is called a conjunction. The place where they conjoined is one of two points where their respective paths cross in the sky. Those are the lunar nodes. When the luminaries are in conjunction where their paths cross, a straight line can be drawn through both of them that connects with our planet. Where that connection touched us was a shadow. That was a solar eclipse.

Two weeks later the luminaries were on opposite sides of our planet. That is an called an opposition, or in this case, a Full Moon. Each one of them were very near the two nodes, which are always opposed. Again, there was a straight line through all three. Where that line connected with the Moon was another shadow. That was a lunar eclipse. Two down, one to go.

In between a conjunction (New Moon) and opposition (Full Moon) the luminaries are at right angles to each other from our point of view. That is a square. That was the first quarter. If you saw Luna looking like a bright silver coin sliced in two, that was it. Now Luna looks that way again, except shiny on the other side. That is where we are today and how we got here, the last quarter, the last week of a lunar cycle punctuated at every opportunity by three eclipses.

By the time you read this the Moon will be in conjunction with Uranus, the Promethean planet. The place they are coming together is called the Aries point. When objects come together at that place your private life (or somebody else’s) becomes public domain and the world comes crashing into your home. Let us hope both underwear and bedroom are presentable.

Later today, while still close enough to Uranus for horse shoes, The Moon will square Pluto. This is like the Moon introducing friends who have met before and who are about to strike it up again. If you remember last year’s cardinal T-square, it might ring a bell. If the number 2012 means anything to you, you can catch the drift.

Before this time tomorrow, the Moon will have completed the T-square reunion by proxy with an opposition to Saturn. Not incidentally, Luna will set us up to come out on the other side of whatever portal we entered when the month began.

Conjunction, opposition, square — the Moon is doing all of those things today, with the planets that made last year what it was and next year what it will be. Conjunction, opposition, square — the Moon is doing all of those things this month with the Sun, and every time is either an eclipse or half way in between. In one week, it will all come together. On the first day of July it will all repeat all at the same time. Last year, the year before, this month, today, next year — all roads leading to one day, crossing at one time.

Except, it is not a crossing, it is an opening. More to the point, it can be. Fact is, it is only a crack, a perforation, at this time. We will need to open it ourselves.

Shortly before he passed on, Robert Blaschke noted that “a lot of people” do not act on auspicious aspects or transits. Even with the advanced notice and awareness that astrology offers, our tendency is to “just wait for them to be over.” Sometimes we can afford to do that. This is not one of those times. That familiar cardinal cross we are approaching again is our cue. Listen up, peeps. If you are not of the marshmallow variety, now is the time to show it. We would all be best off to start pecking now.

  1. I have been away from PW for several days – on Friday morning I experience a clear, strong, ongoing and cleansing feeling of having stepped through a portal.

I come here today and read your article, Len…….

Well then, pecking has commenced – and life is already new.

    As always; thank you.

  2. Thanks sweetheart! Have been sharpening my beak for a long time now – and that egg shell better watch out! xxx

  3. Thanks for lighting the way, Len. Those planets in Aries are in my 7th house but creeping up to my 8th house cusp (which is at 14 degrees). Transiting Lilith is the closest to my 8th house cusp at 10 degrees. That means they are the 12th to my house of sexuality and other people’s money. Funny thing is, I am currently the custodian of my father’s money and his financial stuff. They are creeping up to my 8th house cusp and his doctors are saying they want him ruled incompetent so I can make decisions for him. I am not really wanting to decide for him but three of them (independently of one another) have said it is time.

That transiting Lilith making an quincunx (150 deg) my natal Neptune and the ruler of my 7th house. The Moon will soon join it and then Uranus will eventually. Quincunx (redirecting, challenging, requiring adjustments, diverting) is exactly how I have been feeling lately about my Dad’s issues. No wonder this doesn’t feel comfortable.

  4. Hello Len,

“Last year, the year before, . . . ” has it really been that long? I had to look it up, what with my still-linear way of thinking, and sure enough it was September 2009 when Saturn first opposed Uranus. It caught me off guard seeing those opposing degree points though. 24+ Virgo and Pisces is so close to squaring the north and south nodes in their present and long-holding points of 23+ Gemini and Sagittarius. I get the feeling that it is like a test of how far we have progressed in the balancing of the rigid Saturn in finite, earthy Virgo and the barrier (egg shell?) breaking Uranus in the waters of infinite Pisces? It seems we have made some progress; some give and take, some mellowing and even some healing.

It also sort of feels like a grand square in transitioning mutable signs shadowing the cardinal quality of the grand square of Saturn, Pluto, Uranus and (fill in the blank of Cancer with) some quick moving planets and events. Or maybe a wheel within a wheel, like a clock-work. In the shadow we can’t see it clearly with our eyes but we can sense it with our feelings. Transitioning us through the portals as we find and move through these portals. This final test of the eclipse of the Sun in Cancer must signify what is still needed. What do you think? If the Sun is partially shadowed the Moon will be on her own, in the dark, so maybe our feelings will lead us to that crack in the shell, helping us break through. I like to think we’re not alone in this.

  5. Amazing stuff, Len of the Light-wave.
Excellent image of a portal amid the gathering concentric circles in space and time. Long I have believed I was the marshmallow variety. This eclipse series illuminates the facade of misguided beliefs. But really, the way to this level of clarity comes from PW. Without your maps, this would just be a light show. I am learning to Surf the Waves with guidance you all offer.

Amazing Team you have gathered Eric Francis. I love PW! Thank you.
