Happy Mother Day

The Earth as Seen from Apollo 17
The Earth as Seen from Apollo 17. Original caption: "View of the Earth as seen by the Apollo 17 crew traveling toward the moon. This translunar coast photograph extends from the Mediterranean Sea area to the Antarctica south polar ice cap. This is the first time the Apollo trajectory made it possible to photograph the south polar ice cap. Note the heavy cloud cover in the Southern Hemisphere. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is clearly visible. The Arabian Peninsula can be seen at the northeastern edge of Africa. The large island off the coast of Africa is Madagascar. The Asian mainland is on the horizon toward the northeast."

  1. That’s a great shot of Mother Earth and a lovely song to accompany it susyc — nice one!

    I try and tap into mothering from the universal mother as much as I can these days and this morning, the meditation I received from my book — “The Celtic Spirit – Daily Meditations for the Turning Year” by Caitlin Matthews, threw up a reading (actually two in fact) that’s worth sharing.

    :::The Grace of the Grail:::

    “The Grail, whether chalice or cauldron,
    Gives of its grace unstinting
    To gentle and simple, wise and wanting.”
    — Caitlin Matthews, “Avebury Easter”

    The Celtic mythic tradition speaks of the vessels of grace that restore the life of the world. In the early legends, we find the many cauldrons that nurture heroes, initiate and inspire poets, and bring rebirth to those slain in battle. In the later stories, the cauldron has become the Grain — which is sometimes associated with the cup of the Last Supper. Grail and cauldron have similar properties: they provide the food that people most desire, bring revelation and wisdom to those on spiritual quest, heal the sick, and revive the dead. The Grail is a vessel of divine grace that appears upon the earth at times of greatest need (though only if help and restoration are sincerely sought). No action of ours can bring it into operation.

    What causes the Grail to appear? A large factor seems to be the concerned hearts of many individuals who realize that their personal quest is part of a larger one. It seems that the thing that individuals cannot achieve alone — peace, harmony, healing — becomes possible whenever like-minded people are gathered together to discuss the problems that beset their land and all beings living within it: then something profoundly mysterious happens. The concentration of hope and desire upon the object of need creates the ability to see the Grail and hear its message.

    ~~~The book then directs the reader to the meditation of July 2nd)~~~
    :::Reinaugurating the Grail Quest:::
    “I sometimes think that now, in our day, the Grail Quest has been re-inaugurated…….This time the difference is, it isn’t only men who will ride out.”
    — John Moriarty, “Turtle Was Long a Long Time Ago.”
    In an era when the Wasteland spoken of in the Grail legends seems an ever-present possibility, the time is dawning when all beings who are attuned to the well-being of life must step forward to be the questers of this generation: to go seek and find the Grail, to bring its gifts of restoration to our sickened world. The Grail represents whatever is spiritually restorative: for different people, this may be different things.
    What is the quest today, and who becomes the quester? The quest is for solutions that embrace all levels of existence — not the material world only, but also the otherworld whose spiritual impulse beats beneath the pulse of the manifest world. The questers are drawn from all walks of life, women and men of all generations who long with all their hearts for the world and all that is in it to be healed, whole, and in harmony. They are not idealists who simply meditate and dream; they are strivers who long for this restoration more then they love their own lives, who are willing to endanger themselves. They are rising up now, in every land, working in a variety of ways, but always keenly aware of how important is the reconnection of our own world with the other. The Grail itself is a bridge that links both worlds and that, but the agency of the questers, is able to dispense its healing to those places that need it most. This healing is the living currency of the underworld. streaming between the worlds in a flood of creative ideas, technological solutions, and more mature ways of loving. This quest awaits all who feel the world’s pain as their own.
    Happy Mother’s Day, Mom-Questers and fellow wavers. A toast to the return of the “profoundly mysterious” and the restoration of love in our hearts.
    Have a good one 🙂
  2. The song that sprang to mind on viewing this picture:
    “Isn’t She Lovely”
    Isn’t she lovely
    Isn’t she wonderful
    Isn’t she precious
    Less than one minute old
    I never thought through love we’d be
    Making one as lovely as she
    But isn’t she lovely made from love
    Isn’t she pretty
    Truly the angel’s best
    Boy, I’m so happy
    We have been heaven blessed
    I can’t believe what God has done
    Through us he’s given life to one
    But isn’t she lovely made from love
    Isn’t she lovely
    Life and love are the same
    Life is Aisha
    The meaning of her name
    Londie, it could have not been done
    Without you who conceived the one
    That’s so very lovely made from love
