Today I made my first trip to the land, and discovered that the waterfall was running at full strength — like I’ve never seen it. Basically it’s back to where I think it was normally about 5,000 years ago, so I had a fun moment of time travel. This is looking approximately northeast from the top of the falls. In case you’re wondering how this was taken, it was on a 300mm lens, at f18 with the shutter at 1/2000th of a second — very small aperture for clarity and depth, very fast shutter, all to stop the water for a moment. The long lens let me get in really close, but in reality this is from a distance of about 15 feet. The pictures remind me of something I would see on Astronomy Picture of the Day.
This photo is amazing. SO much energy. I can almost smell the positive ions, the oxygen, the grace. The photo on your Splash page is great feng Shui. Nice.
Oh, I love this!!!
Thank you, thank you for bringing us with you!

actually I put that there, I linked the word ‘and’ in an effort to help my friend Michael, whose land this is (with Karen, his longtime partner) find Friday’s edition while he was surfing on an iphone. Mike said he’s seen the water twice as high as it was this weekend, with the stream bed covering what is today forest floor. And he suggested I start a photography newsletter and not reveal how I take these shots, but now you know about the one above. What does anyone think of the photo newsletter concept?
when i clicked the link in the word “land,” i thought it was going to take me to other photos of the grandmotherland or something. is it just the full moon connection that you’re making?
“Today I made my first trip to the land” today I made my first trip to a political gathering, “and discovered that the waterfall was running at full strength” and discovered that Harper looks far better in full strength than in a media shots… “The long lens let me get in really close,” the gathering was in a helicopter hanger, and he stood 15 feet away from me… “but in reality this is from a distance of about 15 feet.”
“The pictures remind me of something I would see on Astronomy Picture of the Day.”
Yeah. It was a lot like that. Though I like your image far better than the image lingering in my brain. I prefer the land to false-fantasy-builders.
I’m watching “Good” now… I recommend it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_(film)
I’ve been wondering a fair bit how fire might make water react besides just heating it up and turning it to steam.
That mars might instead make water flow like this waterfall did not cross my mind so this image is fantastic and the photograph is amazing.
that water IS Aries-like! excited and charging in an interesting direction! (N)(NE)
the light is ethereal, this must be original Aries on a Good Day!
love the stats.
love APOTD!!
