Stella!

Stella's restaurant and Artie's bar in Kingston, NY. Reflected on the other side of the street is the infamous Pike Plan sidewalk canopy which me and my neighbors are working diligently to get torn down. Why? Try looking at what is under the canopy; those stores are blocked by a total eclipse. Photo by Eric Francis.

  1. ~sounds awesome~, and IMO, eggplant is a totally under utilized veggie- prob. because it takes time to cook it properly, and is a Slow Food, but is SO good if you have the time & patience.

so the town won’t tear down the canopy, but is totally OK with chopping down trees. trees that improve the aesthetics of ANY street. living entities that provide an ambiance conducive to people feeling they might want to stop and check things out and patronize the businesses. ridiculous!!

  2. it’s home cooked Italian style, by an Italian family. Stella is long retired; her daughter runs the restaurant. Their romaine lettuce salad with garlic dressing should be world renowned. You can get your chicken parmie platter, egg plant, that kind of thing. Down to Earth and done well. It’s a family joint so everyone knows everyone. They recently expanded the place into a bar that had closed next door, renovated and stretched into a new era of their history without missing a beat. The whole old restaurant exists and is still used; the old bar is mothballed.

  3. hm- what kind of things are on the menu? I’m assuming you’ve eaten there once or twice.?
