Dear Fellow Human:
It often seems like everything sucks these days.
The economy is sagging and the bailout was really $9 trillion — and all those rich guys got bonuses while millions are getting laid off. Washington is about as productive as a hijacked airplane. We were told thousands of lies about Sept. 11 and two fraudulent wars continue, despite missions accomplished. Look around you. Most people are exhausted, even if they’re ‘succeeding.’

It seems like the ones who are able to get anything done pursued their dreams years or decades ago, and now it seems like there’s nothing left. Then there’s relationships. The cheating rate is 40% to 80% and everyone clings to the idea of marriage and monogamy. People are being elected to Congress on a platform of cutting health care, while every new chemical adds to the brew of every other chemical that causes cancer and many other diseases.
It’s a challenge to sleep through the night and maybe you’ve considered anxiety meds.
And then some moron Senate candidate in Delaware doesn’t think anyone should masturbate or have sex — and as a reward she made the front page of The New York Times this week!
If you’re asking, “Why the f**k should I care?” nobody would blame you — as long, of course, as you’re ready to hear an answer. True, a lot of people don’t give a damn and many have buried their heads in the sand.
Maybe the answer to that question is, none of that matters. That’s right — you shouldn’t care, about all the cynicism. You came to the Earth to live your life. You were born. You have choices, and if you see what they are, and you know what’s important to you, you can use your options and get your life to a better place. You happened to be born into this era, and we’re here to offer you a place to be yourself.
When you join Planet Waves, you get into a conversation with other people who care. People who care about themselves, who care about the world, and who care about you. People who care about the future and the future of their kids. People who know what you’re going through, and who will support what you want.
You get me writing for you and to you, interpreting the aspects and the world and this complex thing known as human. I’m not an expert in astrology; I’m a student who’s been at it for a while and who looks at every chart and every event, and each week’s interpretation for your sign with fresh eyes. I’ve recruited some hot writers and artists, and they’re here to help and offer inspiration as well.
Sign up for Planet Waves and get some support. Get some community around you. Stop feeling so alone and make the choice to take ownership of your life — or at least, to dare.
Yours & truly,

So here’s how to do that: if you’re a PW reader and you want to subscribe but you feel you really cannot afford it, speak up and see who responds by purchasing you a subscription.

KathyC, you’re right! I felt a little like that part in The Sound of Music going “have I left anyone out?,” and sadly, yes. May I huddle in on that heart hug of the lovely Chelsea, Judith Gayle, and the whole gang? The adopt-a-subscriber idea, Eric… perfect way to start the morning.
Martha, Thank you. xef
Yes Eric. I will adopt Yeti. I will send an email to Chelsea tonight to take care of it. Thank Goddess for Planet Waves. Sometimes you make me cry, often you make me laugh, always you make me think, and reexamine, and reconsider, and grow.
Would someone like to buy Yeti a subscription? I will…and I don’t mean comping him.
Subscriptions are cheap. Let’s start an adopt-a-subscriber program.
Wandering yeti, I hear ya… I’m with you on your response. Losing contact with planetwaves made it seem like the woes of the world finally hit home.
Kalyx, don’t forget Jude and Chelsea ((HEART-HUG))
I’d love to rejoin if I could find any income in this shithole economy. Portland, Oregon is one of the worst and it doesn’t help that all the hipsters in the country think it’s cool to move to Portland when there’s already not enough jobs to go around. I know it’s cheaper than coffee, but I wouldn’t even have coffee now if it weren’t for a cafe in town that’s pay-what-you-can and free samples since I can’t buy coffee with my food card. Got any jobs available? I’d happily join up (again) if I had an income.

The entire Planetwaves community gets my deepest of thanks, every day, for pulling this little writer/artist/unemployed witchy person into focus and into the best communication that happens when I plug into this double-edged interweb. Len’s posts (I adore the recent spiders), Eric’s posts, annual, and audio, Amanda, Fe, and Anatoly, all the comments: it’s an incomparable, invaluable tribe. Next to stepping outside, putting my feet in the earth and my eyes to the sky, the time spent on here is when this crazy, crazy world makes the most sense. If the recent parts of these first 30 years are any indication, I’ll have one hell of a great and interesting time getting older. This site and the sky and my guides to it help me remember who I actually am, as that continues to unfold.

And furthermore, damn straight! (it always feels good to say that!) Have been listening to THE BEST disco compilation all morning…it’s totally where it’s at…feeling good…I’m in the mood for dancin’…won’t you take me to funky town…[and if you’re gonna rain on my parade]…oh now go, walk out the door, don’t turn around now cause you’re not welcome anymore….as long as I know how to love I know I’ll be alive…I will survive….because yes sir, I can boogie….and love is in the air….. (gettin’ the gist groovers??)
Have a lovely weekend! xxxxx :o)
I don’t know, Man, I am.
You’ve got to filter some of that stuff out. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and be very sure you are changing what your idea of what the small stuff is at least weekly. Shush the media at least once a day- they are bodiless drama queens who feed on your warm blood.
Delaware? Small stuff. Getting old? A serious challenge….. the ultimate submission. So you’d better eat better, exercise better, wield your discernment and keep your heart set to Open. Love is the law, love under will. Use all your experience to maneuver towards good stuff and good people. Time is running out.. sort of.. what are you going to do about it?
I’m going to fight the good fight, my friends. And live to see another day of this precious life.
(I’m already a subscriber – that is part of the vitamins). Keep polishing that lamp. Keep those hearts pumpin’, wash yourself clean, learn to rest, then get up and make memories.
Possibly the most attractive photo you’ve displayed, (in my opinion.)
..so.. those who can still maintain currency status, share/work with those who produce Goods and/or services.. and those who drift.. share energy and stories.. (songs or random tales), yet work toward a way in towards the embetterment of all Life..
..experiment here,.. I’m gonna see where I end up on the downside of tonight.
Love ya, good luck.
Jere
Yay Eric! You go son! More power to ya! xxxxx
I just read a quick interview with Woody Allen in the NY times.
He talks about his philosophy on life, fortune telling, and how it truly does suck to get old.
I quickly spiraled down into a quick sad state! He’s right I thought, it will suck! There is no afterlife, there are no past lives, there is no meaning.
I am not yet 40, and already I worry about looking in the mirror one day and seeing a stranger with cloudy eyes. I worry I am not cut out for this, living thing.
Then, I read this. I have mixed feelings! Yes! i will join this instant! No, I will not! Damn the internet! I am just too impressionable. I shoudl quit the internet and just speak to the trees.
Then I think of all the moments in the past year when I have felt really truly touched by being here. Like for real, not just passing moments. And its lasting, I am not becoming disillusioned or bored. Its actually amazing.
I will gladly join. Cosmic Confidential was very worth it, everything I have purchased has been valuable.
Thanks for the shove.
merci!
Zoe
The spilled topsoil is (intentionally) still decorating my entry way and no doubt spreading just a little further with each step taken in or out.
A solo spider appeared from said earth this morning. I carried said spider to the tree outside.
Life is small. PW is large.
Thanks All.
Well said, Eric. Thank you!
