  2. Oh wow! I was in England during Live Aid. It was a fun, fun time for me. Watched the WHOLE thing live on the TV with my English host family. Was amazing. Totally fun with my host parents making rude remarks about the aging “rock” stars who played.

Came back to the States and nobody here was all that impressed with the concert, but in the UK countryside (where I was), everybody was getting take-away and staying in to watch. Like the whole country was into it.

My brother taped the MTV coverage, and reviewing it was a complete disappointment; compared to the BBC’s coverage, MTV seemed only interested in covering their VJs. No wonder most people thought it was a big “meh” over here.

Okay– and funny Merc Retro bit here: the eldest host “sister” from that summer renewed contact with me just last week! We were faithful correspondents for a decade or more, but lost contact these past eight years. So lovely.

    Thank you, Beth!
