Weekly audio is ready

In today’s edition of Planet Waves weekly audio, I look at the Venus-Mars conjunction in Scorpio, explore the Moon on the Galactic Center, and look at the chart of Christine O’Donnell, the Republican candidate for Senate who believes that masturbation is against god’s plan. We’ve linked to the video on our audio widget, and you can find her chart (set for noon) there as well.

I’ve also added a 15 minute propaganda audio — about why Planet Waves Astrology News is the perfect tool for astrology students. This is a subject dear to my heart, though I’ve barely mentioned it in the past. Writing Planet Waves, I continually teach astrology and a world view that integrates personal experience, current events and the growth opportunities we have. It is astrology in real life, not in the abstract, not in theory. I give plenty of theory to clarify my ideas, but the idea is to present immediate, relevant interpretations.

  1. “…when I did a google search with my name and the word masturbation I ‘came’ up with more than 800 hits!”

    Yahoo!! (um, I mean Google!!!)

    Awesome.

Agree totally. Personal experience on the dingbats like the ones in that video, is that their agenda is often made up as they go. And it’s easy, cause it’s like tracking the Joker in batman. They don’t care – they are incapable of “caring” and so they do what they like. Generally the only “caring” is getting “caught”.

My version of what you said: they are driven by some deep personal emotional crap and need to control as large a portion of the masses around them in order to feed that unresolved child ego-need. If they are intillegent at all, they get even more adept at sounding like they’ve got something to say. This is where the rest of us need to get “untired” and “undrugged” and “interested” and start actually Listening.

    But we knew that.

What was that statistic I posted a few days ago? One in every hundred (americans?) is clinically/statistically a psycopath?? I’m thinkin’ “Higher”.

  2. edgeword, yes. and notice how their argument goes from a supposedly theologically based one to one based on interpersonal relationship. That some fancy or is it crude rhetorical footwork. First god says it’s wrong, then she says that she doesn’t get her ego fed.

But beneath these ridiculous arguments there is an agenda, and that agenda is to separate people from themselves. We’re pretty good at that already — this would be the coup de grace, or it would be an efficient starting point.

Let’s add in the thumbs up from all the people who don’t have orgasms and who are bitter about it and who don’t want anyone else to either.

Anyway, it’s fun that masturbation is in the news. I am here to say that when I did a google search with my name and the word masturbation I ‘came’ up with more than 800 hits!

  3. ODonnell said it all at the end of that video you posted e – when she said that if a man were to masturbate and thusly discover for himself something that he enjoyed, and know that he had the abiilty to provide that certain enjoyment to himself, then what would there be for HER to do?

That is a self-centered CONTROL statement if ever I heard one.

  4. I think the more the better on this. We need to document and then analyze Teabaggers as antisex on a mission. I address this – and give an antidote – in my talk from Saturday night, Community & Compersion.

  5. Yeah a reader sent this to me. Fe, do you have a permalink for this, it’s from Kos’s diary.

Here we need a philosopher to explain what is going on and that would be Wilhelm Reich.

“Suppression of the natural sexuality in the child, particularly of its genital sexuality, makes the child apprehensive, shy, obedient, afraid of authority, good and adjusted in the authoritarian sense; it paralyzes the rebellious forces because any rebellion is laden with anxiety; it produces, by inhibiting sexual curiosity and sexual thinking in the child, a general inhibition of thinking and of critical faculties. In brief, the goal of sexual suppression is that of producing an individual who is adjusted to the authoritarian order and who will submit to it in spite of all misery and degradation. At first the child has to submit to the structure of the authoritarian miniature state, the family; this makes it capable of later subordination to the general authoritarian system. The formation of the authoritarian structure takes place through the anchoring of sexual inhibition and anxiety.”

Wilhelm Reich, from The Mass Psychology of Fascism

  6. Just one more because we NEED to expose this person’s lunacy:

    MSNBC, Scarborough’s show, 11/13/2002:

NIES: I’m not concerned that they’re having sex. And I don’t think that anybody on this panel is condoning that it’s OK.

The problem is, is they’re not properly educated of the consequences of having sex at a young age. That’s the issue. That’s what we need to talk about. I mean, I’m out on the road at colleges and high schools all across the country. I’m on tour right now, “Reality Bar Crawl.” I’m speaking to kids. I’m at high schools. I’m at colleges. And I know what they’re talking about, because they’re talking about it to me.

    (CROSSTALK)

O’DONNELL: So, Eric, what do you tell them? Do you tell them safe sex?

    (CROSSTALK)

NIES: Hold on. I’ll tell you what I tell them.

O’DONNELL: Do you tell them use birth control?

    (CROSSTALK)

NIES: Yes, I tell them to have safe sex. I tell them to be careful. You have to wear a condom. You have to protect yourself when you’re going to have sex, because they’re having it anyway.

    (CROSSTALK)

NIES: There’s nothing that you or me can do about it.

    (CROSSTALK)

O’DONNELL: The sad reality is — yes, there is something you can do about it. And the sad reality, to tell them slap on a condom is not

    (CROSSTALK)

NIES: You’re going to stop the whole country from having sex?

    O’DONNELL: Yes.

  7. Hi Eric,

Venus and Mars in Scorpio; Mars moving faster than Venus. Several astrologers talk of the recklessness of Mars (eg see Liz Greene), and perhaps that’s what Tracey (?) Delaney means. Venus in Scorpio (Cafeastrology has a good interpretation): longing for an intense, deep, spiritual and meaningful relationship.

Put the two together (and then perhaps layer the other transits that are going on – like a ‘wask’ in a watercolour painting): Mars feels like doing something a bit crazy, a bit reckless, Venus wants the real thing. Added to the mix of Saturn in Libra (what are we learning?) and Pluto in Capricorn (foundational change), the question arises: do we want the fast money (take the Mars route) or the Big Money (the Venus route). And in the spirit of change and co-operation (Saturn in Libra; Pluto in Capricorn), maybe it will take doing something a little bit crazy, maybe a little bit reckless even (or perhaps, simply ‘out of character’) to get us to the “Big Money”. And lets remember, another spin: Scorpio’s transformative effects on Venus and Mars together – the life urge, the creative urge given a bit of ‘oomph’ in its transformation?

    Interesting times.

PS: The Australian Election finished marvellously – we have two Independents who are actually interested in Big Ticket Forward Thinking Change holding the balance of power. Different, challenging, but I’m smiling. If we can pull it off (what’s goin’ down with Jupiter and Pisces there??), it will be life changing for the better. Interesting times indeed. :o)

  8. ” It’s almost as if there is a systematized teaching method out there,..”

Hm – corporate marketing, prioritizing politics over education, Twinkies and pharmaceuticles.

Get my violin, I feel the fires of Rome approaching. And this time it ain’t lead.

I don’t know if Hef would go for the speculum shot, but …. ?

And if she’s the Second VIrgin, does that make her Mary Mary Quite Contrary (aka Bloody Mary) ?

Shower number two, on the way.

  9. This diary from Kos is pretty fucking special, and hits the bullseye with laser accuracy:

    excerpt:

“Max Blumenthal wrote in his book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement That Shattered the Party, “Redemption from a life of sexual sin is the right-wing woman’s business card; it is all the expertise she needs.” This is the “feminism” that emanates from people like O’Donnell and Sarah Palin, who campaign on how they have done right by God and avoided Satanic acts of pure pleasure that godless liberals would have no problem with. Women who have been trained by religious right groups with wives married to bullheaded loons that encourage people to be more aroused by prospects of Armageddon instead of the bodies of women are driven by this fixation on redemption and purity.

There is no evidence that O’Donnell became a fighter against choking the chicken or toggling the bit because she wanted to redeem herself from a teenage life of sexual sin. But, if history is any sort of guide, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Americans find out before November O’Donnell has posed nude for photos while in the company of an ex-boyfriend or had a homosexual experience with a fellow Concerned Woman of America.

Finally, O’Donnell has been talking about how she won’t give out the location of her house because someone broke in and vandalized it during her 2008 campaign. A paranoid O’Donnell told the conservative Weekly Standard that she believes people are following her and that she has to have a team inspect cars and the bushes. And, she believes these people following her “knock on doors at all hours of the night” and hide in the bushes when she’s at candidate forums.

Honey, nobody is hiding in bushes. The only person or thing during this campaign that is hiding behind any bush is your vagina. Now, take a finger out, shove it into the Victoria’s Secret underwear you don’t want your supporters to know you wear because it would clash with the values you preach, and give the donut a rub. That’s right. Buff the muffin, douse the digits, and do the very thing conservatives love to chant about at conventions: Drill, baby, drill.

Perhaps after engaging in an act that most humans engage in and usually find comforting and relaxing, you will be less stressed and paranoid. And less toxic to America. “

  10. All-
Great correspondence among great minds, thank you for a wonderful and thought provoking read.

Speaking as someone who is diagnosable (and therefore in a glass box) there are two key tools: (1) Assume that taking responsibility is better than blaming. Time and time again things work out better that way. (2) Listen and try on what you hear, don’t have to buy it – just try it on. Time and time again my mind is expanded.

Speaking as someone for whom cognative dissonance holds hope for a new paradigm (sigh) the sheer twisty-ness that has become more and more common in public and private behavior is cause for great concern. There are few things more disturbing for me than catching myself slipping into empathy with those who make no sense, common or otherwise. Consider, does it not seem that the methods of misreprentation, confusion and prevaracation have become so much more sophisticated? It’s almost as if there is a systematized teaching method out there, it’s that creepy. Yeeeeshh. Need a shower all of a sudden.

  11. How about the lie that the Bible says anything at all about masturbation? Whatever it may say about sex (and the New Testament says next to nothing — Jesus says TWO things only), that old bound up book of Jewish legends and folklore says not word one about masturbation, nor does the New Testament. She is relying on the “lust in your heart” bit and neither is that established on an individual level; we would have to talk to every single masturbator and ask them what they are thinking.

How about “secondary virginity”? I mean really. Really! We laugh at Muslims and Hindus for doing this — for having one doctor install an artificial hymen so that another doctor can say it’s there. If she’s so honest, let’s get out the speculum.

  12. “O’DONNELL: A lie, whether it be a lie or an exaggeration, is disrespect to whoever you’re exaggerating or lying to, because it’s not respecting reality.”

    Soooooo……..sex isn’t real?

  13. OK, here is Think Progress on Ms. O’Donnell’s past appearance on Bill Maher’s Show:

O’Donnell So Fervently Pro-Truth That She Wouldn’t Lie To Nazis Asking If She Were Hiding Jews In Her Home

Long before Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell rocked the Delaware GOP by upending establishment favorite Mike Castle, she founded a group named the Savior’s Alliance for Lifting the Truth (SALT). SALT focuses on promoting Christian morality among Generation X and places particular emphasis on always telling the truth. In 1998, while O’Donnell was a guest on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, she elaborated on this point, arguing that “telling the truth is always the right thing to do, I believe, and that’s what always gets you out of a situation.”

Comedian Eddie Izzard pressed her on just how far she would take her anti-lying beliefs. Izzard asked O’Donnell whether or not she would lie to Nazis who showed up at her door during WWII and demanded to know if she were hiding any Jewish people in her house. O’Donnell refused to even entertain the notion of concealing the truth from Nazis in that scenario because “you never have to practice deception”:

O’DONNELL: A lie, whether it be a lie or an exaggeration, is disrespect to whoever you’re exaggerating or lying to, because it’s not respecting reality.

MAHER: Quite the opposite, it can be respect.

IZZARD: What if someone comes to you in the middle of the Second World War and says, ‘do you have any Jewish people in your house?’ and you do have them. That would be a lie. That would be disrespectful to Hitler.

O’DONNELL: I believe if I were in that situation, God would provide a way to do the right thing righteously. I believe that!

MAHER: God is not there. Hitler’s there and you’re there.

O’DONNELL: You never have to practice deception. God always provides a way out.

As Kos notes: The only other person who wouldn’t have lied in that situation would be Hitler.

cm – I made the Rec list on Kos??

  14. Cm,

I think that if many members of Congress or candidates or recent president/veep/cabinet members were subjected to psych evaluation, most would be diagnosable.

“Faith based reality” is a euphemism for the kind of psychosis you’re describing. That said, many of these people are sociopaths, and they are extremely slick. They know the game inside out, including the sanity/madness game, so they pass as ‘sane’.

We could talk about what it would require of a person to be involved in pulling off, say, Sept. 11.

  15. It’s interesting, I was just thinking to myself after I posted the first entry that what we may be seeing with O’D. is most likely clinical insanity. Full disclosure: I don’t work in the mental health profession and I am NOT saying this lightly. As the saying goes, I’m as serious as a heart attack.

The reason I say this is becuase after a certain age (don’t know what it is), a child begins to learn that just because they say something is so doesn’t make it so. The differentiation between what can happen and what cannot happen becomes clearer with time, learning and experience. O’D. appears to have regressed strongly backwards to where she’s totally discredited the beneficial aspects of experience, learning and how that can give you a certain amount of control in your adult life.

Fe – congrats to getting on the Rec List of the Great Orange Satan.

  16. It’s classic divide (people from themselves) and conquer. However O’Donnell is almost certainly going to lose.

As of today, she (plus the Tea Party and Sarah Palin) have gotten into a feud with Karl Rove. Pretty amazing that within 24 hours of winning the nomination, she’s making Rove look reasonable. It’s worth pointing out that she ran an anti-gay rumor and smear campaign against her opponent Castle. She almost certainly learned this tactic directly from Rove — who pioneered it in George W. Bush’s campaign against Governor Ann Richards in the 1990’s. Looks like the monster has turned on Dr. Frankenstein. The student has turned against the master.

  17. Eric:

It comes as no surprise to me that an O’Donnell exists in the same league as a Ken Mehlman, who outed himself after years of putting other gay people under the foot of the Christian Right of the Republican Party.

It’s the cognitive dissonance that says war is peace, black is white and lies = truth.

This type of stuff, coupled with a grandiose vision of “what I would do if I ruled the world” is the rail’s edge of insanity. I wonder if she’s conscious of herself in all of this?

  18. I didn’t respond to the part about making it up — it’s a form of control-seeking; that is lying at its best, and at its worst. The truth can be ugly. The truth of human nature can be ugly. The truth of sex can be ugly, and we all have our regrets. So let’s make up a story.

  19. or perhaps she belongs to a cult wherein men have to worship her by sucking her pussy? I hope we don’t have to wait long to see her in the center of Playboy – Hef could use an upswing in magazine sales.

cmassy – your take on the Peter Pan myth of the child who makes it up as they go is spot on – for so many of our lunatics today.

  20. It’s amazing, I know. Particularly that she can turn this into a political product — but Wilhelm Reich warned us about this decades ago.

So now we have the ‘Pubs not only as the party that tells us what who you can and cannot marry; they want to dictate what we can do in the the privy place between the sheets, or in the shower, or in the sanctity of our mind. She’s wrong about lust being a necessary element of masturbation — it is for some people — for fantasizers. For some it’s “purely” physical. No special thoughts are necessary. It’s a physical feeling, like mud between their toes.

That said, at same time she is playing into our sexual fantasies by saying this stuff…by putting herself on display. She is basically working inside that space of sexual tension, and look at her! She’s adorable! To think about “not sex” with her is the same thing as thinking of sucking her clit. There really is no difference; yet she is packaging sex in a way that appeals to the sexually desperate, those who reject themselves; those whose homophobia goes as far as being repulsed by themselves, and there are plenty. Yet does anyone think, for a moment, that she doesn’t masturbate? How many gay-bashing Republicans have been outed as queer?

  21. Eric – re: Christine O’D. chart. In addition to her anti-masterbation campaign, I think (not sure) she also claims to be a “secondary virgin.” I remember reading about this concept sometime in the early part of the decade but hadn’t heard about it since then.

Aside from the blatently obvious Victorian-era type of regression, the idea of a 40 yr. old woman claiming to be pure, innocent, chaste, etc. is one of the most childish things I’ve ever heard in my life. To me, it’s like the idea of “magical thinking” taken to its most extreme. A sort of Peter Pan type of ideal that rejects the idea of a mature woman who gains in strength and outlook through time and experience in favor of an inexperienced innocent that makes up their own world rules as they go along.
