  1. Dissonance. I’ve known about 2Cor et al. on rifle sights for something nearing my entire adult life. This is the kind of detail that stays with you once you find it.

    I guess I never knew the name of the company who made them, though, and honestly never thought twice about it. There’s all kinds of stuff like that in the War. If you think *that’s* a telling anthropological indication of the very weird relationship between the U.S. Soldier and religion, you should make a point of heading out to any military base between the hours of eight and eleven AM, on any given Sunday.

    Anyway it’s not a gun, it’s a rifle sight. The scripture is supposed to refer to having excellent vision; the weapon ‘s sighting mechanism…brings *light* to battle, gives you faith that your aim is true. The scope is illuminated; it needs no natural light to frame a target. It brings, you know; some light to the subject. I guess.

    Especially at night.

    Well.

    Listen, if you just happen to be aiming a gun, and you’re going to shoot at all, you better shoot straight.

    But I’ve got another question: did you ever get the feeling that there is some collective in this country. starting with George but even rippling out unto the populace, that has no discomfort whatsoever with the idea that our war is a Holy War?

    What war is not a Holy War? Scrape off the inscription, you haven’t even touched the surface. We can start at about 1598 and roll it back from there:

    This is the market message. It says check the code in your programming.

    Vigilance, Awareness, …Guns?!..

    (..i’ll blow soft, out on this one.. every effort, in any direction, creates the circle, and is the spark of life.)

    Seriously, there is such complexity at the mental and verbal levels, I doubt if there is even a congruent group of “who’s” let alone a single “who”, who can be the One Integrator…… I feel we are at a painful stage that requires that set of questions be encountered by each of us and by small groups of us, as in my view, it is not going to be addressed adequately by any single theory or approach, the merging required still has some obstacles to clear away…… Each needs to do that work each feels called to, and there has got to be some level of faith or confidence in an underlying Cosmic Intelligence which can bring order and harmony and turn destructive chaos into the creative version…. if each of us, or enough of us, are following the soul’s promptings.

    That may just sound like woo-woo gobbledy-gook and if so, my apologies, I feel and see it and cannot adequately verbalize, so often….. But for me I have learned through years of painful struggles with this question, that I am best of use by not even trying to work on all of it……. and so this is what I am left with.

    Now, where is that horn section? LOL

    I am vibing with you, and like a pair of jazz musicians, I will take it to the next step:

    Maybe people are mighty afraid of releasing or detaching themselves from their own tribalism–no matter what it is, because they don’t know where else to go.

    But who is asking the right question to move us forward, keeping all of us from biting at our own tails in the face of so much work to heal this nation and world?

  5. Is it you or is it “X”? (I am in that same question.) I kinda think, it’s both, these days, it’s both. A paradox seems to be unfolding: We are One world and yet, the splits among us are widening by the moment.

    Point to make though, it was some of those actually wielding those guns, in the military, who blew the whistle on this practice because it made them uncomfortable or challenged their integrity….. I am speaking from memory and don’t have a link to back that up but I am certain I did read that some military personnel registered objections to this situation.

    Perhaps it is the craziness, itself, that is splitting off from our shared humanity? May it be so.

  6. Is it me, or does everyone who actively promote their guns in the name of peace and freedom of speech seem even more insane (e.g. Teabaggers and people who bring guns to public arenas where the President of the US is speaking) than usual.

  7. I’ve been watching this one since yesterday sometime….. The company has been doing this for 30 years as I recall. Though they have volunteered to stop and to make modifications possible on military sights, they have not said whether they will make the same changes for hunting weaponry.

    So very many interesting things coming to light these days…… “I am the Light of the World.” Hmmmm……
