It Wasn’t Always This Way

By Len Wallick

“That flagon last night…has addled my poor head sadly” – Washington Irving

For those of you who remember, roll back to the grand fixed cross (with whipped total solar eclipse on top) back in August of 1999. Sun, Mercury, Venus, Ceres and the north node in Leo opposed by Uranus and just ingressed Neptune in Aquarius, squared by the opposition of Mars in Scorpio and Saturn in Taurus. In retrospect, Saturn was the anchor of this setup, but few saw it at the time. It did receive a lot of notice however. In a way it was the precursor to the 2012 alignment in that it put astrology “on the map” of awareness. Heck, even Rob Brezny abandoned his poetic parable style and addressed the aspect in direct terms.

In his October 28, 2009 blog, Eric characterized Saturn in Taurus as being about values. Indeed, it seemed that was a field of change. Those of us who had not signed on to the Y2k and other millennial hysteria could feel an opportunity. The communist bloc had abandoned ideology for business-like pragmatism. We had a president who seemed to be balancing the federal budget, who could apparently feel our pain and who made us feel like there was a chance that medical care could be made available and affordable for all.

Ah, but Neptune was new to Aquarius, the sign of the collective, right about where the Sun is today. We had not identified the synergy that would, by association eventually smarm the reputation of all Aquarians for the next decade.

The Saturn retrograded back into Aries, hitting a big reset button during which a sitting president was impeached and acquitted, draining the energy and forward motion from his administration. It was, in an unfortunate paraphrase of Justice Clarence Thomas, a high tech assassination. By the time Saturn found its way back in to Taurus, the value reading on the reset button was neocon (or should we say nerocon?) and a lot of folks just gave up. Most fell under the spell of Ronald Raygun’s return in sheep’s clothing. You may remember him, the guy who was President when America was attacked in the false flag incident. A few of us were groping around in the dark labyrinth looking for the lost string, hoping that sound was not what we thought it was.

Flash forward to our present time. Saturn is still in the mix. First, it’s not done opposing Uranus. It will retrograde back into Virgo aspect at the end of April, winding up its comeback tour with big stadium show in the first degree of Aries (Uranus) and Libra (Saturn) at the of July. Get your tickets now. And then of course, that will bring up yet another square with Pluto forming up that big T-square, with Jupiter joining Uranus in early Aries. It will first be like 2009, then 1999 all over again with a chance to get clear on what happened and to wake up to where we are.

That leads us back to Neptune, the man behind the curtain. Still crazy in Aquarius after all these years. Sure, it’s been a sweet sleep. Al Gore’s information superhighway became the hypnobahn as two of the best human attributes — imagination and thumbs, were lured into texting, sexting and tweeting our lives away. Social life became iso-life. News became manipulative entertainment. All in service of denial, a false remedy for anxiety that only made you need more to keep the ever-more undefined fear at bay.

But now, (cue Rossini’s William Tell Overture) galloping out of the west, here comes the literal lone ranger of centaurs, Chiron. Like Pholus, which incidentally is conjunct the Great Attractor right now, he chose to emphasize development of his human half instead of indulging his animalistic component. Chiron was an astrologer, oracle and the greatest physician of his time. He was also a gifted mentor. He taught Achilles, Aeneas, Jason, Ajax and many others readin’, writin’ and fightin’ as well as paramedic skills.

A lot of people in astrology refer to him as “the wounded healer” because of an inadvertent lesion which his great gift could not remedy. This characterization, however, is akin to classifying Abraham Lincoln as merely an attorney. The best expression of Chiron energy is Eric’s paraphrase of the great astrologer, Robert Hand. That Chiron represents either the weak link or more likely, awareness of a weak link in a system which, when addressed properly, will strengthen the entire system. Eric’s early warning of a banking crisis back when Chiron was in Capricorn is an excellent example of Robert Hand’s interpretation.

Chiron is now within a degree of conjunction with Neptune. This aspect will hold through the next month when most notably, Venus makes it a quick threesome on the 7th of February and again when it is exacted on February 19th. At last the fog will hit the fan. It’s beginning now and is both thematically and temporally concurrent with the other cross-quarter themes of Jupiter, Venus and Sun changing signs and Saturn and Pluto squaring up again. The turn of the seasons in the Northern hemisphere makes way towards the day, and once again light is divided equally from dark for everyone on the planet.

There seems to be a quickening at work. Though we are retracing old ground, we are feeling it anew. Though we are re-experiencing previous challenges, it will be with insight gained. Though we have slumbered long, the opportunity to awake is at hand. Though we feel the hangover, it need not, indeed must not be permanent. Now is the time to emerge into clarity and awareness so that we can each claim a better place in the future than we have occupied in the past.

  1. Amen indeed! And as always, I so love the musicality of your blogs – “If music be the food of love, play on…”

Sorry Eric – but haven’t had time yet to sort out the names!

    amen, dear len!

definitely feeling it, both the retracing and the newness.

    now for that hangover remedy…

  3. mystes, wandering_yeti, Fe – if one can pass muster with all three of you at once then there is not a better affirmation to be had. Thank you.

Fe – as always, thank you for your insight (and the link). On the subject of astronomy, the conjunction of Jupiter and Venus will be very close to the sun but still visible for a short while after the disk of the Sun sinks below the horizon. Binoculars will help.

  4. Len:

With my mystes on this one. This one is a bolt to the refrigerator with magnets kind of lyrical astrological poetry that so rings right now its no joke.

My goodness, with eric, you and be, and with the whole of the PW community chiming in, we have a monster of a get-up-stand-up-wake-up crew right here in River City.

  5. Something else to be aware of as we move closer to February and the conjunction of Chiron (awareness) and Neptune (illusion), and as Venus (values) passes them to join Jupiter (justice) in Pisces. Not only is the Moon/Pallas Athene conjunction in the U.S. (Sibley) chart in the third house, the Ceres-Nessus (abuse of power) conjunction is also there.

On Tuesday, Feb 16th The Venus/Jupiter conjunction will be at 7+ Pisces, one degree short of the U. S. Ceres (8+) and Nessus (9) conjunction. The subject of abuse of power might become a news topic (3rd house of U.S. chart) in-so-much as the recent story in Harpers Magazine about the three prisoners who reportedly took their own lives in June 2006 were actually tortured and murdered at Gitmo.

They were taken to a compound just outside the prison camp, called “Camp No”, as Scott Horton reported, and it was kept very, very quiet. As Chiron chose to develop his human half instead of his animalistic half, I suspect he will not condone this coverup of abuse. Neptune, in creating the illusion of these prisoners committing suicide, will not be able to sustain the coverup once Chiron brings it to the world’s attention.

Of course, the New Moon on 2/13 at 25 Aquarius 18 and conjunct Neptune and Chiron will have it’s say about the banking scandal, exposing more of the “weak link” in that system, and hopefully, begin the process of healing. But just the next day the Sun conjuncts Neptune and Chiron, and on the 16th is the Venus/Jupiter conjunction, on the 17th is the Chiron Neptune conjunction (Dell Horoscope ephemeris), all of which portends the possible expose of the Gitmo story.

At least, that’s the feeling I get. Link to Harpers story below:

  6. Wow.

Imagine a nail tipped into a nail tipped into yet a third nail. This has struck so cleanly that it sends all three into the board, nested for greater strength.

Thank you, Len… this one is a keeper.
