Abortion rights and health care

A reader pointed out that Moon opposite Pluto in the US chart is an image of subtracting abortion from health care: an attack by government (Pluto in Capricorn) on women (Moon in Cancer). Obviously this is unconstitutional, given that Roe v Wade is standing case law. Congress can’t ban getting treated for skin cancer; they can’t ban getting treated for a heart condition; they can’t ban prenatal care. Abortion is a medical right in 50 states, so how exactly does that get taken out? The way our government works, the Supreme Court would need to sort that out, when the provision is challenged in a lawsuit.

But now we have another question: WHY exactly would they take it out of the health care law? And how can this happen without a debate, and without women speaking up, as if it’s just the normal thing you do nowadays? This question is more complex than is allowed into public discourse. When I explain to both men and women that banning abortion, or the attempt to do so, is to preserve a “traditional” role for women, that often comes as real news. This agenda needs to be explained. We can’t take it for granted that people understand, in the age of Abstinence Only indoctrination — a federal program with precisely the same agenda, which is, in a word, pregnancy.

  1. Grafitti! Thanks for your excellent perspective. There is so much truth to the fear of women having power.

I need to tell myself regularly that it is safe for me to be powerful. I think one of the deep wounds of womanhood is the regular reinforcement of women’s power being unaccepted. Not to mention the history – getting burned at the stake for example.

  2. Also, Eric, much of the anger and fear over choice boils down to this: they don’t women having that kind of power. They can’t deal with it; it throws their version of how the world works onto its head.

Because choosing abortion is making a life-and-death decision, and women are not supposed to have that kind of power. Not in our culture.

Of course nature provided us with that power innately, but denial is more than just a river in Egypt, baby!

Better to pretend it doesn’t exist, and try to legislate it out of existence. Women deciding when and how the human race is going to get continued? Jesus, that gives a lot of people the willies!

  3. Women do speak up! I called my Rep. – unfortunately a conservative Republican. I vowed to vote for him if he would vote for the public option and against the Stupak Amendment. He did neither. Just saw a friend, she wrote him a long letter and covered the bigger issues she has with health care.

I agree with Fe and Be, at least something shifted after all these years. And it will take time for us to feel the benefits.

  4. Fe,

I’m with ya all the way. So glad you can see some positivity in all the mess around us, so few can these days. It’s always like this when something bad is nearing an end. They fight like the devil himself; pulling all the punches and every dirty trick in the book. The zealots who advocate this crap never thought we would get this far this soon. Even though, as you say, it took over 50 years of trying. We are seeing the worst in humanity now which is bringing out the best in humanity. We’re mad as hell and we are NOT gonna take it anymore!!!

Bless you for keeping us posted on these “shenanigans” Fe.

  5. Rep. Bart Stupak, the author of the Stupak Amendment to the HCR Bill which is the subject of Eric’s post, is a member of the C-Street Coalition, a group of Congresspeople, Democratic and Republican who frequent a certain house on C-Street where they get their marching orders from Dominionists, the radical Christian right who want more religion in government. NOT separation of Church and State.

These are folks who support taking out the “liberal” bias in the Bible, like compassion and help for the poor, that Jesus would want you to be financially successful, and that poverty is your own damn fault.

All of this, of course, on the backs of women. The intent was to SLOW the HCR Bill. Everyone knew it would pass in some fashion. If there is a success to point out, its that it finally passed after over fifty years of trying.

These interests against the bill are doing their best to kill it in a bi-partisan manner, while its still in the crib. Let’s intend with all our energy that this amendment gets voted out of committee when it goes to the Senate, and that a good bill with the most coverage for all gets passed. Get ready to hit your phones and pressure the hell out of your Senator. There is a fight ahead.

  6. ..and, as far as your “can’t do” as far as government.. B.S.! These cats have ultimate control over what they do. The system is made ‘just so’ that these Pricks can dictate, from their sandcastle pedestals, (but you know what? And I’m gonna get knocked down, ’cause I can, These folks are Human. They bleed.) And they bleed control. It comes down to us bleeding our own freedom. Are we ready is a thoughtform in my reality. Can we navigate the sickened realms that are dispelled in avaricious mindforms?

Cat’s won’t take care of their own bodies, I realize this.. been vegan for way too long.. but a little bit at a time,eh?! (We’ll all come to realize that, in this society, Veganism is possible, agrarianism is the basis of society, If you’re out in the woods, kill something and eat it!!! If you’re kickin’ back in OUR realm, check your diet. And, its inception. (No less than therapy for the soul).

So, as far as abortion, and women’s rights.. (I’ve got your back) but you’re gonna have to do something about taking those rights,.. YOUR OWN fucking body, man!?!

  7. Divide and conquer. It’s as old as shit. All authoritarian complexes are built on the shit. Divide oneself from themselves and, whala! Control. I was just baking on the RU486 pill earlier this morning, and the implications, personal and governmental. (Dude, people are so inbred to the point that they need someone to walk them through this reality.. seriously. These cats in congress, dipshits! It’s all part of a system that we have to learn too navigate, as well as transform. That way we don’t have to deal with this bullshit baggage again.)
Ahh, but reality is not based on the construct of ‘others’, it’s based upon a reality that is a bit closer, and more personal. Our reality. Yours.
When a soul gets too the tip of the wave… all bets are off baby! Ride it or wipe out! And if you do wipe out (for my sake), get the fuck back up and try for another! Soul practice.

The dirty moralists (no judgement, just descriptive assessment), in all their fearful ways, would like to quantify the Universe within the means they have available.. ain’t gonna happen! This sheisse is infinite! Good luck on control!! I laugh with the folk who envision an utopian society. But, the future’s not mine too see…

    J (Good Morning!)

  8. Hey Eric and all

So, respectfully Eric: c’mon you know why they took abortion out the health care law. It’s been difficult enough just getting THIS law passed, can you imagine just how dead a health care bill with abortion would be right now?

At least there still is the option of challenging this in the courts in order to make this right.

One step at a time, when you’re trying to change a society.
