I’ve just posted a Tuesday edition to subscribers, which covers the sign change from Libra to Scorpio in some detail, including the Sun void of course. This thread is an open discussion about what I’ve covered in that letter. Here is a brief excerpt:
The Sun is in the last degrees of Libra, still close to its position at the New Moon on Sunday morning. We have a fairly long phase of the Sun void of course this week; in my reading it will not be making new aspects to anything in the way of major planets or asteroids until it ingresses Scorpio at 2:44 am ET Friday; that is to say, overnight between Thursday and Friday, or Friday morning, in most time zones in the United States, the UK and Europe.
The Sun void of course till then suggests that a cosmic door is open on the worldly level of our affairs; that we can encounter unusual changes or developments. In my experience it’s a door to the unlikely, which we need to watch (like any door) and invite in who and what we feel is healthy for our growth, environment or community. There is a risk involved. There is also an element of timing, as in, do what you can, while you can. Interesting opportunities are available, and there’s also a sense of drift that makes it wise to coast a bit rather than push.

Sitting here, minutes away from the double ingress (Sun into Scorp, Moon into Cap), noticed Marcury is trine to Chiron. Before i lay my head down to sleep, i will pray that this will be a night when awareness shared will bring a respite to those who have been stretched to breaking by the slow wind down though anarectic agony. May we each have the strength and the patience to prevail and enough left over to encourage those who falter.
Blessed Be.
When I read other interpretations of Sat in the 8th its a bit of a doom-monger report, and not my own experience at all.
True… a friend’s prompting forced me to think about “why” the delays and frustrations happen with Saturn. Clearly Saturn isn’t the problem – *we are the problem.* Far better to make friends with him and learn his lessons.
Think about a musical “genius” like Yo-Yo Ma. Saturn is the force which made him practice, in his younger days, until his ears and fingers bled. Look at him now. :-}
Namaste.
We lost one of the truly great and wonderful woman artists this week,
Nancy Spero. She always stood up to speak her mind , and she her late husband Leon Golub produced some of the best art , yet always kept the vision of human justice
within their work. One of the most generous artists that I have ever met, and a beacon
of light to all the women artists I know- we are all sad today –
Here are the articles on Nancy

Nancy Spero’s death means the art world loses its conscience
A vital, energetic artist who could be funny as well as macabre, Nancy Spero never lost her curiosity in the world

More amazing astrology! Thank you for taking the time to explain the astrology in a way that those of us who are new to astrology can learn how to work with it, interpret and understand it. The amount of work, effort, time and yourself you put into each bi-weekly edition on a regular basis always amazes me. And it’s quality work, not filler!
Eric and All My Fellow Commenters –
To the Sun-Moon dialogue that is going on in the sky I also get to throw in my Pluto in Libra and Saturn in Scorpio both conjunct the Sun in Scorpio and my Neptune in Sagittarius and my South Node in Capricorn both conjunct the Moon in Capricorn and Pluto in Capricorn. There are a lot of voices in the mix – especially ones about structure, transformation and sex.
The Sun with my Pluto and Saturn seems to be asking me to develop or explore new ways of relating, new relationship models that use good boundaries and balance in relationships (especially my sexual relationships). I’m getting a push to transform the ways I’ve been relating, both internally and externally. And not just relating to others, relating to myself. This has definitely been mirrored in recent relationships, both with men I’m dating, but also in my work life and home life.
Then there’s that Capricorn Moon and Pluto with my Neptune and South Node. Things may be a bit veiled or fuzzy (and lately boundaries in all kinds of relationships have gotten really fuzzy, life seems to be asking me to make them clear, otherwise things could get hard and stressful). Issues of clear boundaries, unbalanced relationships, and difficulty relating and empathizing with people (Venus in Aries) have all been areas of my life that I’ve been forced to work on, resolve and clear up. As for where the guilt comes in – not feeling guilty of standing up and stating my needs, stating my boundaries, owning them so there is more balance in my relationships. Part of this is relating to myself – feeling good about stating my needs, not feeling guilty. Not feeling guilty being the person I am meant to be instead of the person I was taught to be all these years. Transforming my personal make-up to throw away the guilt which has no place in my life anymore. Life has been asking me to do this through making very clear boundaries in every aspect of my life and not to feel bad about doing this.
And it all is happening (in the sky and life) right before Saturn gets to go through it’s own transformation. Almost like the changes in the sky mirror the changes in our lives.
Hope everyone is weathering the changes going on in your own lives well!

To A, who wrote of her whirlwind time. Brave moves indeed, I empathise greatly with you and wish you well on your new road. H.
Morgana, not for the first time have I found something you’ve posted incredibly helpful. I loved what you wrote about Mars Libra and this on Saturn (I have Sat and Chrion both retro and both in Pisces in there) has given me a new way of thinking/viewing it. When I read other interpretations of Sat in the 8th its a bit of a doom-monger report, and not my own experience at all. Though it’s true, I’ve struggled to get a handle on actually what it is about for me. An ongoing conversation.
My chart is heavy in 10th, 11th, 12th and 1st and funnels into the 8th and so I believe this is about me both learning the lessons of those aspects as well as putting ‘out there’ what I learn about it.
Blocks, I got blocks – and its a life’s work getting through them. I also help others get through theirs – so that’s how it plays out in reality. I like that notion of the protection, that resonates so much. Thank you. H.
Unfortunately I have Saturn in the 8th House, and for me, I know this is delay and frustration where my astrological studies are concerned!
I’ve got this natal placement too (mine’s at Aquarius 4), and I’m also a serious student of the occult. I want to suggest that while Saturn can potentially cause delays and frustrations here, I also believe that it means your life can’t support esoteric knowledge unless you have built the mental structures to support it (‘structure” also being an important Saturn keyword).
Here is an example of what Saturn can do in the 8th house: I used to be a Christian, and a Dualist (as far as “worldview” is concerned). Dualism worked fine for me when I was a Christian… but as a neopagan, at one point, I was having trouble progressing (my 8th house experience has been that there are firewalls around the really “good” esoteric stuff… and there is a good reason for this).
However, a couple years ago, I met a shaman who began training/challenging me to adopt an animist worldview. Having done that, the result is that my own paganism actually makes a lot more sense to me now.
The dualist road, my formerly “Christian” worldview, didn’t (couldn’t) support the type of learning and experiences I am doing/having now.
I think Saturn in the 8th is can be a very powerful placement for those who are drawn to the mysteries of sex, death, and the occult. Especially in the sense of it functioning as self-protection mechanism (a good thing) – you won’t progress if you don’t have the proper structures built up. Saturn will “protect” you, in a sense.
So focus on how your mind and spirit are “structured,” and make changes that will enhance your growth. Saturn will let you go as far as you have *prepared yourself* to go.

Hi Eric, I read one of your blogs, I think it was the one as a response to
Sun opposition Eris. I also seem to remember you asking for feed-back on
women experiencing their Mars. Forgive me if I am wrong, cannot find the
place again to check.
Anyway, I have a comment which basically centers around all the modifying
factors on whichever Mars one has. I have Mars in Aries trine Sun in Leo,
and it may have saved me from succumbing to depression, suicide, near-death
experiences or whatever. Mars is in 3rd house, so I basically use it
verbally, and it may originally have had a lot to do with my 4 older
brothers whom I adored (they did not all exactly adore me!). You said the
reason I tried to hide or reduce this fire combo was that Mars makes a
square to Pholus on the Ascendent. My Mars energy tend to push some people
away, but I not only have Pholus there but also Hopi, Arachne and QB1, I
would think quite modifying factors. In general I experience my Mercury,
Pluto, Chiron conj. also conj. Achilles as much more dominent, it is also
square Nessus. And now when Mars is going through all my planets in Leo 3
times I really feel it. (My husband has Moon, Chiron, Mars, 17,18,19 Leo)
also in 7th house, so the next Mars retro period will be interesting. Maybe
IВґll start owning my Mars trine Sun, which I have always tried to hide. I
would think anybody`s Mars depend on their ditto Venus and their
relationship. My Venus is square Jupiter and she does not like that or being
in Virgo, also I feel that she is influenced by my Moon square Saturn but I
cannot find any astrological explanation for that. Venus is trine the Asc.
so there is one up in relation to my Mars, but in general she has always
been either very ugly or very beautiful depending on Jupiters mood I guess?
I guess my Mars is also a bit handicapped by being conj. Osiris, Sedna,
Hades, Varuna, Hylonome and Amycus depending of course of how narrow an orb
you use.
I donВґt know if you can use any of this in your research. Reading your blogs
gave me and expression of a lot of strong Mars women having problems with
the integration of Moon/Venus. There was only one male as far as I remember
and he had a really nice Venus energy.
Anyway, just a few words to the wind. Best wishes, Suzette
Hi Eric~
Just a quick note before I jump into the shower to start my work day….
I signed up for your emailed astrological insights some time ago, and got it at a discount (for which I am deeply grateful). My life has been a whirlwind 4 years of leaving an abusive husband, buying a little cottage, being laid off from my job, fighting to keep my house while it loses value, getting creative about income, and working on my necessary transformation from battered into strong and whole.
While, until now, you didn’t know it…you’ve been with me every step of the way: guiding with wisdom, humor, insight and erotic energy. This last has been an interesting phenomena for me, since a lot of what happened between my ex and me involved elements of sex, manipulation, lies and betrayals. And although I thoroughly understood the ‘pain’ part, I had not yet understood the ‘growth’ part until I started studying with you.
I could write much, much more, but this email is a heartfelt thank-you (with a little back story) so that you will know–this rainy Tuesday morning–that your words and your work change lives…and for the better.
Thank you, my dear.
A.
Your letter today was so interesting. I would love to see more “tutorials” for those of us students of astrology. Unfortunately I have Saturn in the 8th House, and for me, I know this is delay and frustration where my astrological studies are concerned! It is very hard for me to “get it” and the manner in which you discussed the current relationship between the Sun and Moon was very straightforward, not difficult to grasp at all.
I wish Planet Waves had a question and answer forum where there could be more of this!
Thank you,
ELIZABETH SEACORD
Eric,
Just read your article today and it is helpful beyond words (pun intended) in getting my arms around how astrology thinks.
I will be reading it over and over until the Sun/Moon Energy idea starts to run through my veins at which point much more of the astroligical discussion (specific to the planets and aspects) that takes place here will make sense.
Thank you!
Linda
