Note from Sari in Wales

Dear Eric,

Was walking in the very wet mountains yesterday and realised that rape in the old myths is usually about submission to a higher power. Persephone is stolen by hades and raped and taken to the underworld, but that is an important part of her journey. Its a purging from the summerland down into the depths of her psyche, and in that way hades/nessus is playing the old pan role.

Planet Waves MailBag

I was watching v for vendetta last night, if you haven;t seen it i’d highly recommend it. Evie has a powerful connection to a masked man V, who is fighting against the government. Her parents were freedom fighters and murdered by the police, so she understands his plight but cannot let go of her respect for authority and the desire to be ‘normal’. In essence the only thing she has left is her survival. She escapes V, but he recaptures her in disguise and takes her down to the dungeons where he interrogates her as a government official, cuts her hair and leaves her in a cold cell with only rats for company. he repeatedly tells her that she can have her freedom if she tells them where V is. She does not submit, and says she would rather die than tell them. And thats when the hooded figure says, you have lost all your fear, you’re completely free. And she walks out of the cell, past what she thought were armed gunmen but were actually dummies, back into V’s sitting room.

By stripping her of everything, she faces her own death and realises there is nothing to fear any more.

Heracles could represent that controlling bluebeard part of the male psyche, violent and controlling, un-nurturing. We castigate nessus as the baddie, but he is trying to show deianara a deeper level, ferrying her across the overflowing river. Nessus’ dying act is to help destroy the bluebeard element, so that the female can continue with her journey.В  With her initiation into the underworld incomplete, she is operating with a naive psyche, and prone to jealousy, fear and manipulation. The poisoning of heracles is secretive and cunning, a very spidery end. Some versions of the myth say that the cloak of nessus was suffused with sperm and blood.

I think the centaurs get a very raw deal in all of this.

Did you hear about the fires in the aragorn region of spain?В  The conscious pan is rising.

Love,
Sari

  1. Slightly surprised that no one has responded to Sari’s statement: Persephone is stolen by hades and raped and taken to the underworld, but that is an important part of her journey. And her subsequent statement that after that kind of thing, women are no longer jealous… Well that didn’t seem to be the case with Deianara as she tried to rein Heracles in with a potion. That wasn’t exactly compersionesque.

So it didn’t work that way for her. And really, the notion that rape, or incest is good for a woman because it takes her to the depths and makes her stronger is a little hard to take.

  2. Hey Ketchup1, Thanks for the question! I am in the middle of a 36 hour cooking frenzy right now (think maenads with masa), but as soon as the noise of clanging tamale pots dies down, I will turn to this.

We are having a sudden “cool” snap here in Texas, 90s instead of 105 every *single* day! Just in time to fill the world with handmade, buttery, corn-laced, savory tamalogues (like tamal, but better). They could be Her thighs.

  3. I’d like to hear more about Thunder Girl. I do not look down on cheerleaders, for they too manifest the Goddess, but I suspect that’s not who Mystes is referring to.

  4. the other side (to me) is when the door opens, or more like when the physical world disappears, for brief moments. Sometimes I see a blinding light emanating from certain people. I want to say ‘spiritual’, but I know you use different terminology.

  5. Hi everyone,

I’ve been following this thread with great interest – and suddenly I have more time to read the blog: I got laid off yesterday. I had a vivid and quite negative dream the night before, during one of the rare periods of sleep during the local heat wave, and a tremendous sense of foreboding is all I remember about it. It was confrontational and enough to wake me with a start.

The last six to seven weeks have been very strange for me. I bumped my head on a concrete floor at work in early June, splitting the scalp open and sending me to the hospital briefly. I fainted from a side-effect of my hypertension medicine, and fell backwards and down about 4 feet. Not fun. No apparent concussion, but I have my doubts…

Since then, my mind has been undergoing a definite transformation of a kind, and I know the cerebral pathways have changed. I simply don’t care about some things I cared for before, and do care about other interests even more now. A strong indication to me that change is with us.

As for Pan, I welcome him back!

    Very strange times indeed.

  6. Hi Patty,

Worked late, got to sleep late last night & got up early so no dream i can remember. However, i will say this, the less than 5 hours sleep i did get was suprisingly (to use a term from Mystes) efficacious. i had a spring in my step this morning that i have not felt for awhile. Also (1) My natal Sun is about 16 1/2 degrees, but 14 is “close enough for government work” (2) my offline e-mail is: leowall_1@yahoo.com (3) Nessus is still lurking in mysterious ways so i’m a bit owly about the whole thing especially given that Mars is transiting my tewlfth house right now – gotta keep an eye on myself, which is difficult without a mirror.

Mystes, Just checking in. Pan is a Satyr, right? i mean, like maybe the best known and individuated, but still that’s different from a Centaur (goat Vs. horse), am i correct or did i forget some detail? Just trying to follow the thread here. Loved your creative humor about the federal dream commission but given the state of technology maybe someday that won’t be so funny. Gotta go. Blessings to all.

  7. Hey Pat, I was just thinking of Lord Pan again, how he rose up at the beginning of this, then kind of wandered away.

Saw an iteration of Him in the dreamstate last night and in the early light of predawn. He looked a bit lost.

If He is coming through the Aug. 5th tunnel, should we, like, make a Sign for Him? “Welcome to Arcadia.2 Sorry about the Trees.” And which side is the “other,” I wonder.

  8. I don’t know Mystes. I sure get tunnel vision at times. I keep getting glimpses of the other side so I wondered if anyone else was doing that too. I guess it qualifies as tunnel vision.

and I’ll kiss that ring of yours too!

Len – I hope you follow up with last night’s dream. The sun at the eclipse will be in Leo 14, the moon at Aquarius 14- an interesting combination of sabian symbols – and right on your sun. Did I say it right this time? 5 a.m. is early even for me.

If you want to correspond off line that’s ok too.

  9. Len… “Sort of like public TV – engaging with minimum shock quotient and no commercials.”

Holy crap! you don’t have commercials in your dreams?? Better not let the FDC (federal dream commission) find out, or they will tax your ass to Pluto and back.

Patty… does Pan get the tunnelvision (speaking of ‘t. v.’) too?

    Kissies,

    M

  10. Len, the moon eclipse is in Aquarius in August. The sabian symbol for the full moon is:

Aqu 14 A long and heavy train climbs the steep mountain grade and at last a tunnel offers a shortcut to the other side

I thought a breakthrough came with the June eclipse, but I believe this eclipse will manifest the results. For you it is quite personal, falling on your birthdate

I don’t know what I was thinking pulling up an 06 sabian symbol for you since that wasn’t accurate to your dob, but sometimes spirit points at something that fits a situation – so you had it to mull over last night.

    I’m off to work now.

  11. Len, It is the sabian symbol for your birth date. The answer you seek could show itself at the next eclipse. The sabian symbol on the next eclipse is: Leo 14 In the form of a cherub, whispering soft coaxing in words into every receptive ear, a human soul seeks expression.

Heading west is the natural direction the soul takes when traveling or leaving the body.

Be interesting to see if you dreamed again last night. It is draining to look inside. We don’t always like what we find – just know that all parts of the dream are probably about you and the other people and even the animals are representative of some part of you – the good, the bad, and the ugly! We are all wonderful and horrible, and realizing that can make us more compassionate.

  12. Jannetlo,

Know how you feel, especially today.

You know, Ringo had a hole in his pocket and it came in handy.

  13. Patty:

Thank you for your insights (though they are a mystery). i don’t get the “read for February 06” part. Read where? 6th day? 2006? and i will keep a copy on my fridge and see what develops. Not used to this kind of attention, but i’m grateful that you would take the time. Proceeding in faith that you have a connection beyond my ken.

Ok, the abandonded city dream. Started in a suburb setting, me sitting on the hood of a station wagon in a driveway waiting for someone (can’t recall who). Gradually noticed there was nobody home anywhere so i started walking. Colors, yes, but not Bollywood saturation or anything like that. NO majestic buildings, more like gas stations, strip malls, grocery stores and the attendant parking lots once i got out of the neighborhood setting. Yes, i was aware. Do i touch or help myself to what’s not mine since nobody is around? Do i want any of that stuff anyway? Finally i decided to look for a car with keys in it and drive West (which is funny, because i don’t drive). Woke up before i found the car. Remember thinking (while shaving) that it was fun, not frightening and an insight into my values. Also, going West seemed like the natural choice because that was the direction to the ocean, somehow.

Wow, thank you Patty and Mystes – i feel a bit drained like after a physical workout.

  14. thanks. nice read! i love coming to pw and getting information that connects the dots that i have been alternating between brooding and/or ignoring. dots. i have many in my pockets.

  15. Len,

Some important news is on the way…keep an open mind and trust in your inner spirit, do not fear the unknown. There is no power greater than that which resides inside of you! Expect nothing, fear nothing. Just be.

You are actively creative during sleep and that is quite unusual – the inner man wants you to hear him and is speaking to you through your dream world. Ask the question before you go to sleep, and the answers will come.

Feb 05 birthday – read for Aquarius 06 The stage is dimly lit for an allegorical drama and a solitary performer carries the thread of mystery.

Tell me about the abandoned city dream. Colors, fine buildings? YOu were aware that you had to find the answers and make the decisions?

I will not be back on on line tonight but will check back tomorrow.

  16. Patty;

    DOB: Feb 5, ’53

dreams: Dreams are there almost nightly. No real pattern i can discern. Rarely unpleasant, thankfully. Rarely any trauma (you know, the kind that makes you hold your head and mourn after you wake up), thankfully. Some sort of story unfolding, usually. Sometimes i’m part of it and sometimes i’m observing it like a movie. Usually the story involves a task like solving a problem, going somewhere, finding something, something like that. Usually there are people, most of whom i do not recognize, except for one dream a about two weeks ago where there was nobody but me. That was kind of cool, like, what do choices do i make when i have the run of an abandoned city? Movement is a common denominator. Also an unpredictible creativity that makes my awake mind envy, wishing i could make stuff up like that so easily. Usually they leave me wanting more. Sort of like public TV – engaging with minimum shock quotient and no commercials.

  17. Len, what’s your dob and what kind of dreams are you having these days?

I just read an article today in a Christian column of a woman who wanted a certain book, and her friend wanted it too – and she wanted her to have it so she let her have the book and as soon as it left her hand another was in her hand in its place. There were three examples of this type of the supernatural abundance in the same column, and it appears to match the story above, for lack of fear and expectancy.

  18. Mystes,

Yew trees – there are some growing on Whidby Island. Earlier this year i gathered some nettles, made rich tea and chewed on miners lettuce as i sat undneath one that was growing on top of a cliff, looking out over Puget Sound. The branches spread very wide, a baseball team could have sat on one of them with room to spare.

Wow, good thing it’s a moon void – reverie all over again. Nessus seems to have backed off for the moment.

    Really, thank you.
    Len Wallick

  19. Len, “special”? not that I know of. And I do not misrepresent myself, at least not intentionally (I don’t hold myself responsible for the contexts through which I may be heard, though).

Pfttt. 56 is merely a foot in the door. Thunder Girl, being a few thousand her own self, doesn’t discriminate age. There are texts around that can give you ritual instructions for calling Her, if you have a couple of years to get Her phone number. I haven’t used them myself, but others from the same sources, and they are efficacious.

Lightning rod. Hmmm… yes, a nice yew stick, around 6 feet, 2 inches in diameter, and polished would do. She’s been known to favor those, as you know they are sacred to charnel grounds in your neck of the planet.

As for Blake, he’s doing fine, though a certain poignancy still follows him.

    Unbound,

    M

  20. Mystes,

You really are something special (whether its as you characterize or not) and i thank you for the smile i can feel on my face.

Keep in mind, i’m 56, so “find you a woman” might be advice a bit late as regards to the appropriate phase of my own training. However, i will promise to meditate on your words as i ruminate a tin can or two (and i’ll carry a lightning rod with me should i run into Thunder Girl – a gentleman is always prepared, right/).

Finally – William Blake – would not have wanted to be him but i’m so thankful for what he left us.

    With Gratitude,
    Len Wallick

  21. Len, let’s see, how did Blake put it? oh: the desire of the goat is the Glory of God. Something along those lines. Although I have moved into another phase of my training (apparently I am now moving the Mother/Daughter clearlight – evolving the Demeter/Persephone story), I still have a hand in the Gold Man/Green Man evolution.

Find you a woman who can find and open what is closed in you. There are actual procedures that have been published to track down an incarnate of the Thunder Girl (i’m just an emanation, but I’m moving as fast as I can). They are kind of a pain in the ass, but She’s the one you want.

There’s a deep vein that connects the Cernunnos energy, Green Man, al Khidr (the Green Saint in Sufism who instills the Lucid Dream), Hermes, Pan and the Thunder Girl, who is arranging for their bail.

Once you have used Her to break shame, you’re half-way home. The other half is pure power.

(For the purists among us, well, I extend my ring, please feel free to kiss it.)

  22. First of all, thank you to Sari in Wales who is indeed not only an accomplished scholar but a generous person for sharing such a mind-expanding perspective. Second, i take full responsibility for my own feelings in this matter. So here goes.

I dunno. i say this instead of “don’t know” because this brings up my own experience with Nessus (prominently situated in my birth chart, prominent theme in my life). For example, Michael Jackson’s white socks were the coolest thing ever. My white socks were cause for social ostracism. The aggression of a centaur is majestic and magnanamous. i dare show any teensy weensy bit of aggression whatsoever and it’s not acceptable no matter the motivation. My boss drives a Porsche and he’s the crown of creation. A tissue falls out my jacket while i’m walking home from work and i get hassled by a cop. And let’s not forget, the only reason Persephone was allowed to emerge from the underworld for her summer vacation is because of who she knew, not what was done to her. For Orpheus, it was connections too.

If Tom Joad were real, i’d be preferring his company for sure.
    -Len Wallick

  23. I know.

I have been hearing, seeing and feeling this: the return of Pan / the Green Man. I was first visited in Paris in the spring of 2005 by a gold version of the Green Man, in a lucid dream.

The centaurs are all agents of change. I never took quite the view that she has arrived at – it is intriguing and beautiful.

Re. Sari’s thought about Aragorn, she is a careful scholar of Tolkien; there is a reference here to Aragorn, son of Arathorn; Strider, the ranger; King Elessar I.
