Solstice Weekend: An Invitation

If you’re in the New York area or reasonably close by, I am planning a gathering at my home and/or Blue Studio for solstice weekend. This is intended as a ritual space and an occasion to make art, rather than a conventional kind of party. So this is an invitation to creatives and seekers who are ready or very nearly ready to take a step into the unknown or at least unfamiliar.

The meeting time is 2 pm on Saturday, June 20 in Kingston, New York. Kingston is accessible by bus from New York City (two hour ride, $20 fare each way). This may be a very small gathering, or a medium sized one, depending on who replies. I’m planning it as an overnight that goes into Sunday (and I’ve cleared my schedule Monday as well, the Cancer New Moon conjunct Vesta).

If you’re interested, please send me a note (to dreams -at- planetwaves.net) including a little about yourself, a photograph that clearly shows your eyes, and your phone numbers. I have some room for overnight guests, though I suggest you bring a sleeping bag. We’ll do food family style, skipping restaurants except maybe for coffee at my friend Dominick’s place.

I look forward to hearing from you. Those with questions may reach me on my studio phone, (845) 331-0355 – but please don’t leave a message. I will be in and out for the rest of the evening (mostly in) working on an article.

  1. The photo looks like she is parting the lips of the vulva of Mother Earth. See the dark wetness to the left? The mystery of the Mother’s life-giving secret place, open and wet and ready. Yet the wrinkles remind that Mother Earth is old and wise. The youthful hands are her own, for she is both young and old, foolish and wise, deeply sensual and profoundly fecund. Yet they are also the hands of everyone, opening the Mother’s pleasure door, the way of life. The dark wetness cries out to be plunged into, to be filled, to be rammed in and out of in mindless yet tender ecstacy. It is an invitation to life and pleasure that holds the mystery of love and giving. In surrender of herself, Mother Earth is the greatest giver. In surrender she loses none of herself but instead gains connection to others.

  2. Ah Eric,

If only. We will be celebrating Father’s day, the conception of my miracle son (conceived on that summer solstice when an eclipse in Cancer happened, in 2001) and Solstice all in one.

We just planted a garden here and must tend it. My four kids also need me here.

One question, why the “photo that clearly shows your eyes” requirement? I am just curious about that part.

Blessed Solstice to you and yours.

:::::doing happy dance because my teen daughters did something so smart this week despite peer pressure from their longtime bestie friend::::: It is definitely time to celebrate on all accounts!

  3. e and f and b…

(and c and j and other j and p and most definitely a)

Solstice. Two things: The first Essay of Tantra for Bobos will be published (the Intro is already up). And I will be having brunch with my son and his dad.

But *next* Cancer New Moon (we have two in a row, yippee!), July 21, I will be in Kingston. Can we re-do Solstice then?

Tix are cheap, people. Pony up.

    Kissies,

  4. I won’t be there on the EXACT day in spirit, but I will be tending to my home, setting it up for an orchid rooting party and barbecue on the solstice. My favorite hard-working pals and best animal friends are coming. Let the sacred good times roll—at home!!!

  5. I’ve had some positively beautiful, touching responses, including by email. Thank you.

They are all from somewhere besides New York. Let’s go Big Apple! Let’s get the mojo on!

  6. Hey Eric, oh yes how I wish…but coming from ‘down under’ I’d need a little more than a couple of days notice 🙂

Have a magical evening…I’ll be with you in spirit only this time around…

    J.

P.S. Please post time in Australia every time you do the radio, so that we might catch you sometimes from down here…

  7. Excellent idea E! Been sittin’ on the hence of when you’re gonna invite ground. Good freakin’ job!

I’d so be there but, California and daily, disciplined gardening, I’m rooted.

I hope the evening is fabulous! Have a blast!

    Love and good vibes,

    J
