  1. I am very interested in the intentions of those behind the electoral process breakdown. And I cannot wait to hear what you have to say!

What I hope to avoid is a situation where we accuse someone of intentional wrongdoing or deliberate illegality when mere incompetence is to blame…and in making an unfounded accusation undermine our own position and credibility. It’s harder to prove someone has bad intentions than to show they did their job wrong. If we have a way to establish intent or illegality, then by all means let’s establish it! My guess is that in the chaos and confusion, it’s going to be very difficult to find the evidence. What evidence there is will probably be circumstantial…or astrological!

In my last post, I was trying to give us words we can use to talk about the electoral process meltdown which don’t presume:

    1) that Republican elections officials are screwing things up deliberately (even though many of them are), or
    2) that anything technically illegal has happened (although it probably will).

A sizable chunk of the electoral process meltdown may not satisfy either of these conditions, but we still need a way to challenge it.

That’s why I hope to introduce the term “botched election” into our vocabulary. It makes no implications of illegality or deliberate intent that could be disproved, discredited, or dismissed, but lets us challenge the legitimacy of the election on process grounds. We’re going to see A LOT of botched elections that may or may not be deliberately stolen or rigged.

I understand that for your purposes intentions are a top priority. It’s just that I would hate to see you go out on a limb and have that limb cut off, when a slightly different word choice would ensure you were on solid ground.

  2. Voting simply is not enough…so true.

Solution, thank you Eric…our Evolution as a universe, externally reflected in exploring the Uranus Pluto Square, also (personally), internally I keenly feel, as currently experiencing a long-term influence, Pluto Trine Uranus, with my Libra Moon with today’s transit Mercury conjunction Ascendant.

–Reconnoiter, a verb that resonated with me from one of Len’s articles last week. I looked it up and what I picked up from it’s meaning I believe very relevant to the conversation and, Solutions – looking to solve our problems through our decisions. To better, or change our world, (from the very personal to collective) can be found in changing our mental perception.

I believe it is in the ability of our better monitoring; the detecting and trending of viewpoints that narrow our perceptions and relationships that are unnecessarily confining, can be released a sense of new birth and freedom.

Regarding perception, and fault detection here is an interesting, inspiring lecture I was coincidently led to today and want to share. It’s presented by Behavioral Economist Dan Ariely, who asks, Are we in control of our decisions?

  3. Astrodem, the outer conduct does not matter. It all comes down to intent. One can use a car as a murder weapon, even though most people who are hit by cars are actually killed by accident.

What I am interested in is the intent of those behind whatever action is taken, regardless of what it may look like from the outside.

  4. Hey Eric,

This is sort of a semantic point, but I think we need to be careful to distinguish between botching an election, rigging an election, and stealing an election. There are real differences between these things, and if we’re sloppy about the distinctions, we’re going to have a harder time convincing people there’s something wrong when it all goes down.

BOTCHING an election is running an election incompetently. It discredits and distorts the process, but not necessarily in a way that produces a desired outcome. Botching an election makes stealing an election easier, but is not in-and-of-itself evidence of election theft. We saw a lot of this during the 2012 GOP primary.

RIGGING an election is changing the laws and process rules to produce a desired outcome. The whole point is that it is perfectly legal. That’s what Republicans have been doing for the past couple of years to voting rights, ballot access, etc.

STEALING an election is breaking the laws or manipulating the process (usually once the voting and vote counting has already started) in order to deliver a desired outcome. This is what happened in 2000 and arguably in some place in 2004.

  5. Hey Huffy, hello!
I might have a ‘dritta’ for you, something that helped me greatly when I was in a situation like yours, not knowing if jumping or not. Do you still have that email of me?
In any case, you have my support. Whatever you choose.

  6. Mimi – I’m so chuffed that you popped up with your advice! And thanks so much for cheering me on. In the case of this particular boss, it would put her in a lot of difficulty if I resigned. The hold that she has over me is that she knows how difficult it would be for me to replace the job; things have always been pretty dire (as in, unfair) in the country where I live, and now they are even more so. But she would also be in trouble if I left. However, you are right, dear Mimi, it would be better to hold on. At least I’ve now laid my cards on the table. (Uh – sorry Eric, rather gone off topic here, but these are ‘squaring’ times, so not entirely..?)

  7. Dearest Huffy: I realize you probably aren’t aware of me as I usually just read your posts without written response. I assure you however, that I always read with great interest and am always cheering you on.
That said, I decided to uncloak, as it were, to offer a bit of unsolicited advise. That is, do not let your boss off the hook so easily. Many bosses are somewhat relieved by an offer of resignation. In those cases, it relieves them from finding a solution to a problem they likely feel they can’t fix. It’s not unlike staring down a cat, however. But be that as it may, hold out at least a bit more, ideally until she responds. .
As far as holding you nose and jumping in, I’m reminded of a scene from Indiana Jones were he finds himself at the edge of a cliff, enemy advancing from behind, the sought after item ahead of him across a large ravine. In a moment of desperation he takes a step and when he does a bridge (heretofore invisible) appears.
All that to say, I hope the same for you.

  8. Thanks so much, dear CaraSusanetta. I feel your warmth this side of the pond… My email has certainly disturbed my boss, even though she has chosen to ignore it. After some thought I feel that it’s best to wait it out for the time being, this is such a time of flux and change. It’s the need to control things, to long for an outcome, no matter how good or bad, that I’m working on, to try to let go, watch and wait before making next move….

  9. Huffy, you have in absentia. I wonder how much will change when she sees how serious you are about it? Hmmmm. Anyway, best wishes from this side of the pond.

  10. I’m half way through listening, but had to post this link: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/21-ways-rich-people-think-differently.html

Wealthy people think about money and themselves differently than the rest of us do.

Some of the 21 points are soul-affirming, as in following one’s passion in life, with the photo of Oprah as an example. Other points are definitely not. A passion to uplift self and others and becoming wealthy in the process can not be grouped with those who have a passion for money, power and exclusivity as an end unto itself. Their disdain for us, the monetarily unwealthy, will be part of their downfall. Sad creatures.

  11. Oh – and at the last pass in 2011, I had a hip replacement that completely changed my life. I had a pelvic injury when I was a child (about 11 or 12) and always had pain in that area. Two hip replacements later I still had the injury, but last summer my Gemini doctor whose birthday was conjunct that eclipse, ordered a special hip for me and I can now walk without a limp, I have no pelvic pain because my pelvis is now in the correct place and I would really love to take off running. It is a structural change – better late than never. Thank God. My doctor teared up when I met with him after the surgery, when I conveyed the results. Everyone needs to drop the fear and look for the miracles.

  12. Well you said it Eric. What an in depth presentation of NDAA. Chilling ! Orwell was my fear factor growing up but I didn’t really think this would become such a reality in this country or in our lifetime. Obama as a constitutional lawyer has something up his sleeve that can’t and shouldn’t be ignored. Politics has become evil – statesman ship almost non-existent – but something rotten stinks to high heaven.
Much to my disappointment I didn’t get a single response from reposting your 9/11 wake up call yesterday. Maybe that’s too controversial for facebook friends ? Or is no one paying attention ? Or does no one really care anymore ?
America is being raped and robbed legally and it is our responsibility to be ever vigilant.

I am honored to make your acquaintance Eric and all involved with Planet Waves.

    good luck to us all

  14. And I thought that Italian politics was lousy… Thanks Eric for another superb PW FM! I love Seth’s music. Wasn’t able to give it the attention it deserved as was working as I listened, so will listen again when I’m free. And I sure am backed into that corner right now. Yesterday finally plucked up the courage and sent email to my boss, telling her that I couldn’t go on working under these conditions, and she totally ignored it. The next step is handing in my notice, which isn’t a good idea when you’re stony broke and in debt. But might just have to hold my nose and jump…
