“I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.”
— Holden Caufield, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter Ten
Drex, send us any clips on that issue. Carol van Strum is also obsessed with it. Let’s keep the conversation focused. I will devote a weekly edition to it if I have the source material and a good theory to work with
I am completely obsessed with the Large Hadron Collider. I even discuss it with my therapist. Now she’s obsessed.
Eric, have a wonderful and well deserved break – thank you for the gift of your insight and words!
One of my other faves is this quote: “Sex is something I really don’t understand too hot. You never know where the hell you are. I keep making up these sex rules for myself, and then I break them right away. Last year I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that, deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it – the same night, as a matter of fact.”
God I love that book so much – totally fell in love with Salinger, aged 14 or so, and I loved Raise high the roofbeams carpenters too, and Franny and Zooey, couldn’t get enough of the man. Such a lovely tribute, Eric.

Len:
Its as if we’re channeling light strands of J.D. Salinger here on PW as he moves to the next place.
Eric:
It’s a visual poem, complete and gorgeous.
Indeed!

🙂
Eric, do believe you have created a moment of synchronicity. Wasn’t sure that was possible. Temporal-conceptual art. Let’s see the Large Hadron Collllider beat that!
Amazing you are, Eric. Flat out amazing.
