    Firefighters in Wisconsin marched to the M&I bank earlier today in Madison and withdrew their money. In total they took an estimated $192,000.

    They asked others to follow their lead. Apparently others did.

    Just updated:

    A call to M&I’s Capitol Square branch confirms the bank is closed for the rest of the day.

    This is how you protest. Anyone that has any money in this bank, no matter how little, should withdraw it ASAP. Make them feel the pain that they are causing the little people.

    Of course it might be difficult to withdraw today, as they’ve had to close their doors to prevent a run. This story should continue to get out. The success of closing a bank even temporarily, will inspire other groups to continue their efforts.

    When the firefighters arrived at the Capitol this morning they started the chant “MOVE YOUR MONEY!” Firefighters Local 311 President Joe Conway told the audience they should move their money out of M&I Bank. The bank was one of the leading contributors to the Walker campaign due to contributions by current and former executives and board members.

    Off topic of this diary but:

    Madison Fire Chief says he doesn’t have the authority to force the Capital police to remove the cuffs from the door, but he is asking, as it violates State Fire Code.

    at the bottom there is a link to watch video of his whole speech. i think amy goodman is hoping this will bring him out of documentary-making “retirement”; apparently he had said at one point he would make any more movies until people start doing something in this country.

    Alright, this is what needs to happen. (First time I watched the news in a week, caught this).

    Trade your cash with folks who will trade it to other folks, not corporations. Sell (on Craigs list, ebay, ???) all the stuff you’ve piled up, (it’s called baggage). Barter, it could be fun!? Talk, speak your mind, wherever you’re at, make it known as to what your feelings are.

    STOP shopping at the mass conglomerates! Adjust your budgets if you have to. Seek out your ‘local providers of essential goods’,.. which is short for “get off your ass!”

    Bring it to the table,.. ‘this’ table, any table,.. I don’t care,.. just bring it.

    We’re on the righteous side, we will win.. but not without “that screwball on the frontline with his battle ax, even if it is a guitar!” (Or a keyboard!!)

    ..Stop propping up the megalomaniacs, and get some self-love!!!

    ..We could stop this all today if we felt like it..

    I saw this after I woke up this a.m. and his words have stuck with me all day.

    “Wisconsin’s not broke,” he said. “America isn’t broke. The money’s just not in the people’s hands. It’s in the hands of the rich, the people who committed these crimes and got away with it.” He held up a pair of handcuffs and looked at the camera.

    “I’d like anybody who works on Wall Street, anybody who works for the banks, just take a look at this,” he said. “This is what’s coming. This is what’s coming for you. Because the people are going to demand justice, they’re going to demand that your ass is in jail.”
