Jupiter in Gemini: Forward in All Directions

We’ve passed through two weeks of eclipses (in the midst of which was the Venus transit of the Sun), and are now at the last quarter Moon. This is/was at 6:41 am EDT in the sign Pisces. There’s some tension in this chart, in part as a result of two planets in the mix. Today’s last quarter is really a grand cross chart — Pisces Moon, Gemini Sun, Virgo Mars and centaur planet Pholus in Sagittarius. The way this looks is like four planets arranged in a perfect X, through the mutable signs.

The Moon is the fastest mover in the configuration, so the pattern will not last for long — except that the Pisces Moon is impressionable and can take some time for a little jolt like that to wear off. You may be feeling some anxiety with this mix, or you may have woken up feeling a bit agitated and not knowing why. It may be ‘just the astrology’, or there may be something bothering you.

However, with the Pisces Moon involved, take it slow figuring out what it is. With Pholus involved, I suggest you scan back over the weekend and see if anything happened with the involvement of alcohol that may require some debriefing. Alcohol is often an overlooked factor in the very situations where it’s a central influence. Use your curiosity and look beneath the surface.

Meanwhile, even the most challenging squares can also be motivating. In the case of a Pisces Moon that could be creatively motivating, with Mars and Pholus igniting an idea and lighting up the water like sunrise. Still there is counsel to take it slow on all fronts today, and savor the experience of being creatively squeezed by one thing hot (Mars, in Virgo) and one thing that emits momentum — Pholus.

Move consciously as you can. Even if you’re feeling great, people around you may be feeling temperamental. The Moon is far from the Earth and will move just over 12 degrees today, so that’s considered slow progress — says William Lilly, the equivalent of Moon retrograde.

Once the Moon completes its last quarter aspect, it will be what astrologers usually call void of course until it ingresses Aries at 12:21 am EDT Tuesday. A void Moon (meaning that the Moon makes no more aspects to other planets before changing signs) suggests drifting today. Meditate on your plans till the Moon is in the new sign. You will save time, energy and the need to do things twice — when it looks like doing whatever once well will feel great.

There’s also some tension in the air from Jupiter, the biggest, fattest planet with the most moons (and notably, denser than Saturn), which is on the verge of birthing herself from from Taurus to Gemini. Jupiter is currently moving swiftly across the last degree of Taurus, where it will be till it moves into Gemini at 1:22 pm EDT. The last time Jupiter entered Gemini was June 30, 2000. That was just after the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in late Taurus a few weeks earlier — one of those events that portends something big on the horizon (we learned some of what that November).

The last time Jupiter entered Gemini, a clever newspaper horoscope writer — I don’t remember who — described it as ‘forward in all directions’. This is a reminder to give everything you’re trying to accomplish at least a little attention, but really, it’s a call to focus your efforts. Gemini can have a distracted quality, and it’s not Jupiter’s best sign; it will, however, be great for Geminis and for that matter anyone with strong mutable sign placements, particularly if they are angular (for example, involving the rising sign).

Jupiter in Gemini is a reminder to make sure that you don’t overuse words, particularly at the expense of actions. We could take a lesson from the old cliche, “sayin’ it don’t make it so” and a hundred others of its variety. Jupiter represents two signs that have strong spiritual leanings — Sagittarius and Pisces. However, words (a Gemini thing) are not enough. It’s necessary to go deeper, and Jupiter in Gemini offers that option.

I suggest that you conserve your words today, particularly given the emotional quality of the Pisces Moon and the grand cross. This Jupiter in Gemini transit lasts for more than a year, and we will have plenty to say about it, from the standpoints of modern and traditional astrology.

  1. And want to add that you Pisces gals are quite something (Hugging has good taste!). Have recently made friends with one – and yesterday she offered to help me with a whole load of bureaucratic crap I have to sort out. She’s a tower of strength and resourcefulness, but at the same time very clear with her boundaries. Feel lucky to have met her.

  2. Another superb anti-viral that works wonders with mucus membranes is pao d’ arco. It comes powdered in capsules, as a tincture, and as a tea. Very effective for controlling herpetic virus, the tincture will provide immediate relief. Hope you feel better soon, Carrie.

  3. My pleasure, Carrie. So glad you’re feeling better. I’m a water sign as well, and respond to stress and difficulties in a very similar way to you.

  4. “Three words: tea tree oil. Yes, even for viral illness. Mix with hydrogen peroxide (10 drops tto per 100 milliliters) and rinse like mad. For at least 30 seconds. Do this every other hour till those babies go *away*…”

Not too late Mystes and thanks a bunch for this! The biggest sores (two monster ones, one more than an inch long) are still there and still hurting way too much.

Yes, we will get through this and thanks for the gentle hand of caring. It is what I need when I am emoting off stress like that. I do bounce back fast (I do everything fast…:::blushing::: well almost everything; that has slowed a bit now).

Thanks to you and my PW friends and my other friends. I am thankful for all of you here. You hold space for me to be my intense self and never make me feel bad about being myself. That is a gift beyond price.

  5. “I so recommend reading The Power of Now.”

Will do, Huffy and thanks for the recommendation for it. I feel a lot better after that emotional release yesterday. I bounce back fairly quickly after doing that; especially because I ahve such compasisonate and helpful friends here and elsewhere.

  6. Carrie, I am so sorry you are feeling like crap. And yes, I know the mouthsore dealio. Three words: tea tree oil. Yes, even for viral illness. Mix with hydrogen peroxide (10 drops tto per 100 milliliters) and rinse like mad. For at least 30 seconds. Do this every other hour till those babies go *away*…

I know you needed this a couple of days ago. But here ya go.

As for the girls, Sarah went into a droop like that around 17. Here’s what threw her out of it: I started a new business and made her CFO. “Here kid, is the money we have, here is what I want to do with it, and here’s our timeframe. Go.” She was still kind of bleary on some days (ah, the Kind and teenagers, such a *great* combination) – but came through withal.

Q goes in and out of focus as well right now. There’s another etiology around that, but from what I can see, it is contagious. All teenagers seem to have it.

You can always stop feeding them. That usually initiates some rummaging behaviors that sometimes leads to gainful employment.

Good luck, amiga. We will get through this, too. . .

  7. “When will this constant struggle lessen some? ” Carrie – I so recommend reading The Power of Now. It addresses this question like no other book I know. It gives no easy answers, but shows us that the problem is not so much the lives we lead, but how we relate to our lives, and that once we understand this mechanism, the constant struggle we’re in can start to ease up. Though as a fellow ‘constant struggler’, have to say that reading a book isn’t the answer either – but it does give a lot of food for thought, and helps to break patterns of fear and negativity.

  8. Hugging – you and them Pisces lassies! All sounds great… Though you might well end up with a fiery or earthy lass – after you’re done with swimming around in those watery depths (no offence to the watery ladies – am a Cancerian meself with loads of Scorpio and Pisces in my chart).

  9. thanks Carrie!
btw, I had a fun date tonight with a pisces gal. Our dinner convo began right away with her opening up about her dreams. They were pretty intense, dreaming of masturbating and her having multiple orgasms during the night. I mean, I just sat down with her! 😉 Which was great because she felt good with me I guess. But man, she was a fire cracker. A LOT of energy! She could like supply power to a small city! Anyway, I thought I’d share that. I’m not totally sure there’s anything more than a lot of sexual attraction between us, which would be fine, but I’m hesitating to go further seeing as my last two escapades didn’t end up quite like I planned.

  10. “There is a certain responsibility that you’re feeling in covering for Dave (or will?).”

As the non-ADD one in this relationship, I have always been the one responsible for covering for Dave. My 17 year old daughter does it for her older ADD sisters too. If I don’t, bad (sometimes disasterous), things happened in the past so I do it. He cannot help being ADD any more than I can help being a really fast thinker. We are what we are and we work together very well. It is just that sometimes it feels like soooo much to carry alone.

Sharing that feeling with him makes him feel as though he isn’t fulfilling his male reason for being; he feels like it is his job to support us and as most men, he wants to make me happy and fix things. So I don’t fall apart in front of him most of thr time about this because I know he already feels like he is unable to do what he feels is his responsibility.

“I know its easy to say, but don’t think of it as a holding pattern. Think of it maybe as an opportunity to notice something else, something that needs attention before other “progress” can be made. Only you know what that could be, if so. I often felt in a hold pattern with meeting compatible women (still am!). But I’ve tried to steer away from that and think of the space I have to discover other things going on. Once I do that, I’m immediately making an opportunity arise by changing my response to it. Not sure if that helps any, but hope so!”

Yes it does help…a lot. Perception is everything, isn’t it? Thank you so much.

  11. P. Sophia, thanks for a great article! Loved it! (and for your nice words on the oracle post too)

Carrie, I’m so sorry you’ve been sick. I have an allergic reaction to mango, papaya and guava. One summer, I was testing this and got a mouth/lip rash 3 times. It takes 2 weeks to heal the puss and ooze and swelling. So I know the pain of some of what you have.

Perhaps the dream is simply telling you you’re taking on too much. There is a certain responsibility that you’re feeling in covering for Dave (or will?). The child is probably an investment of some kind, maybe emotional or financial. The child is a part of you two that has growth potential and is linked as a shared product. I know its easy to say, but don’t think of it as a holding pattern. Not sure if that helps any, but hope so! 🙂 Chin up dear, keep goin’…

  12. The last two mornings I woke up to dreams in which my husband, through some neglect, caused us to lose one of our kids. I was tearful the first morning and enraged the second. This makes no sense because he never endangers them….ever. Deciphering these dreams has me stumped. I am not mad at him for anything so I have no idea what these mean.

I have also felt a sort of fear and funk stealing over me. Despite my knowing that the universe will take care of us; I am not looking forward to “just surviving in a holding pattern” again. Unless something changes, that’s what we are facing….again. If I have already learned to trust the universel what’s the lesson “this” time about?

This is not a comforting feeling. Saturn has been in my second house for some time and in Dave’s tenth (or 9th, depending on what house system you use) and it is going back and forth across my husband’s natal Saturn (his second return) for a while. He is one of those folks (born in late 1952) with Saturn and Neptune in Libra in his 9th or 10th house (again, depending on which house system you use).

Using equal houses, Jupiter would cross his 6th house (work, getting a job, health) cusp in August; which is when the schools start here but using Koch houses (and my astrology teacher said “Koch houses run on time; like German trains so use them for timing things”) it doesn’t cross into the 6th until late in the year and then retrogrades right back out.
That doesn’t look good for his job prospects as a teacher. The bad thing about being in a holding pattern is that he only has two years of teaching under his belt; he needs three to be eligible to get endorsements (for math, reading and so on) and to be considered a “seasoned” teacher.

I have been sick all week with a nasty virus called herpangina which made my whole mouth fill with huge sores that hurt like a son of a bitch. They also caused deep pain in my teeth and upper jaw on my left side. They are receding and not hurting as much now but being in pain all week has worn me down.

I don’t do sick or in pain well without feeling some slight depression. Lately I ask myself “When will this constant struggle lessen some? ” I am 52 and it looks like things will be this way for a long time. I know being sick makes me feel this way because right now, I feel like there’s not much light at the end of the tunnel. Also Moon in Pisces (in my 7th house) is not helping; Pisces being a watery, feeling sign and all that.

The twins (my oldest daughters) begin their driving lessons today; this lasts 10 days from 3 PM to 6 PM to learn how to drive and pass the test so they can have their licenses. We waited until they were 19 because the more years they wait after 16, the lower their accident rate.

I raised my kids to think for themselves but lately I am wondering how they became so lazy. They are only taking 3 classes each semester of college because they feel “overwhelmed” by all the homework. WTF? I was taking four classes and doing all the bill-paying, managing the household inventory, managing everyone’s schedules, cooking almost every day, homeschooling their brother (though not well enough), doing all the laundry (to be thrifty), and managing all finances, doing all the grocery shopping and paper goods shopping too. I know I am older but when I was their ages I was doing so much more every day. They don’t even work yet. I made them do chores every day from the time they were 9 years old, made them work for the things (or excursions) they wanted so it isn’t because I babied them. ::::shaking head:::: I never complained (at least out loud) when I had a lot of work to do and I still don’t. They act like they are so put upon just taking 3 classes and having to keep up with their housework. Sheesh. Whatever happened to having a strong work ethic?

That’s where I am today. Tomorrow may be a better day.

  13. Eric: Thank you for writing that Jupiter in Gemini has the potential and capacity for depth. That is such an important point that will become become even more important shortly after the solstice. Bless your heart.

  14. Hugging: Haha, thanks for the memory.  Outfits great!  I used to love these guys until felt jilted finding out just fakes!!

HS, thought of you yesterday when this Slate article came up in conversation.   If u haven’t already seen, it’s worth a read.   Apparently…it does all comes down to Muppet Theory. Chaos or Order?? Hail to Chaos…Love the new avatar!

  15. “For the Cancerians/Kallinectes among us, it’s like throwing a triple-Moon into a closet. 12th House *all* lit up.”

ahhh — i think that has something to do with my incredible mental misstep eeeeeeaaaaarly sunday morning — along with that mars square sending me charging off and spouting off (echoes of my mother’s mental tendencies — her moon sits on my S Node in Gem in my 12th) — with pholus and ixion riding shotgun.

and then there was this morning’s dream of washing a pile of dirty underthings in a sink where people could see. at least a kind, beautiful boy i’m friends with showed up, said something complimentary/supportive about my washing, then headed off to do some sort of intense cleanse for himself.

    ok, universe: i’m listening…

  16. Huffy, I hope your job transition goes smoothly; I too felt some kind of sourceless anxiety yesterday, mostly last night. These changes are coming thick and fast right now, eh? My kiddo has a Pisces Moon and when Luna rolls into that zone, I often feel a kind of undertow.

So. Jupiter in Gemini. June 30, 2000 – hmmm, my principle consort showed up that day with an armload of flowers. Trust me when I say 8th H got nothing on the 12th. For the Cancerians/Kallinectes among us, it’s like throwing a triple-Moon into a closet. 12th House *all* lit up.

(My alarm is set for 2013. Until then, these somniloquisms will have to do.)

  17. Not only is that one beautiful shot of an incredible tree … butI swear it’s pulling me in, this arbor, and making me want to climb right up into its arms.

    mm.

  18. Forward would be really nice, because I’m sick to death of my health holding me back. Mars apparently is retrograde in my Virgo til July 2, affecting health, eh, and therefore, work. I need to be able to jump out of bed July 3rd, feeling like a new person. I’ve certainly taken enough supplements in the past 4 years to make a new person…

  19. Hey Eric,
in perfect Gemini style, this morning I dreamed that you said to us PWers: “This year I plan to receive two Oscar prizes: one from the world, and the newspapers, for Astrology, and the other one for the hidden Astrology that we unveil together”.

  20. Many thanks for this Eric. And for the gorgeous photo, which made me breathe a deep sigh and take in more oxygen. High agitation indeed. Things were moving so fast before, was contacted by place about 10 days ago to take a 4 hour editing exam (!) with possibility of moving into new job, and finally leaving present one – which has turned into a bit of a nightmare. Also need to generate more income, fast. But everything seems to have come to a standstill. Yesterday was going out of my mind with anxiety, but was also aware of what the planets are up to – which you confirm today. And know that though I have to keep moving – my mind needs to calm down and accept where it’s at right now.
