First, the galaxy should be thoroughly populated with surveillance outposts on a time scale much smaller than the time it took on Earth to produce this cosmically pathetic civilization we call the nearly 200 member nation states of the United Nations, with humanity now hanging under two self-constructed Swords of Damocles: the twin threats of catastrophic global warming and nuclear war.
Second, THEY, or at least their outposts, surely know we exist, since to believe THEY are ignorant of our existence is to assume they somehow bypassed us in their expansion into the galaxy, a scenario I simply find unworthy if not unbelievable for an advanced civilization, especially one in existence for millions if not billions of years. It is important to note that this conclusion is informed by present day physics and chemistry, not a post-Einstein theory that transcends the speed of light.
So we are left with option 3: the aliens are deliberately avoiding communicating with our primitive world. I submit this is by far the most plausible given our current knowledge of science and the likely sheer ordinariness of our chemistry and planetary organization.
Why would we be considered primitive? This should be a no-brainer, even for an Earthling. The world spends $1.4 trillion in military expenditures while millions of our species still die of preventable causes every year. Carbon emissions to the atmosphere continue to climb, even though presently available renewable technologies such as wind turbines exist and are sufficient to completely replace our unsustainable energy infrastructure.
Here are some humans trying to do the right thing, take some of the insanity into direct response…….. If I were a Galactic Observer (heck, maybe I am! 😉 ) I think I would approve of this initiative:

8 ships with aid, activists head for sealed Gaza

JERUSALEM — Eight ships carrying 10,000 tons of donated supplies and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists on Tuesday were making their way toward blockaded Gaza — and a likely weekend showdown with the Israeli navy.
The small flotilla carrying cement, prefab homes and other goods marks the most ambitious attempt yet to break the border blockade of Gaza, imposed by Israel and Egypt after the Islamic militant Hamas violently seized the territory in 2007.
Israel warned that it would not let the vessels reach Gaza, and has reportedly set up a detention center for the activists in the southern Israeli port of Ashdod. Israel also insisted there is no humanitarian crisis, claiming that it allows sufficient supplies into Gaza.
The latest attempt to break the blockade comes at a time of growing appeals by the international community to Israel to ease the border closure or lift it. Israel bars everything except for basic foods and humanitarian supplies, in hopes of driving out Hamas or at least forcing the Islamic militant group to release an Israeli soldier it has held for nearly four years….

….Four cargo ships and four passenger vessels were heading toward the southern Mediterranean on Tuesday from various European ports, and planned to meet Friday off Cyprus, said Greta Berlin, one of the organizers. From there, they are to set off together for the one-day journey toward Gaza.
The cargo ships are carrying an array of donated goods not allowed into Gaza, including cement, prefab homes, lumber, window frames, paper for printing school books, children’s toys, a full dentist’s office, electric wheelchairs and high-end medical equipment, Berlin said.
Israel initially allowed several small ships to reach Gaza, but since December 2008 has blocked all vessels from reaching the territory.
Among the passengers are lawmakers from a dozen European countries, a Holocaust survivor in her 80s, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a retired U.S. army colonel, Berlin said….

I didn’t write this – it’s from Space Daily.
Yes, we are supposed to be in a cooling phase. We are approaching the cooling side of an interglacial phase. However, that’s not exactly what’s happening. It’s strange because our species level ‘body clock/thermostat’ is not expecting it to be getting warmer.
I agree, based on military and social budgets, and other factors, that we are pathetic; and I do see some individuals breaking free. But I’ve learned to keep breathing while they do their bit; I don’t hold my breath.
And Mr Don, with all deference, this article was sent to me for publication by one of the elders you reference, my environmental mentor (going back nearly two decades) Carol van Strum, who provides many articles that appear on this page.

Come on Eric I disagree a lot with what you say , having being involved with a large number of groups etc since the late 1950,s and in particular the 1960,s a huge amount of stuff was downloaded in various ways before the internet, I studied in depth Madam Blavatsky and many indepth writers from Paul Brunton ,Colin Wilson and a large number of others, in particular I.Velikovsky several books, Worlds in Collision,
If you have not read this valuable material you may not understand where I an comming from, To say we are a cosmically pathetic civilisation is totally sick to say the least and based on total ignorance, have you read anthing in depth on the Anunnaki and what they did, no I did not think so.
I do not believe for one we are totallty ignored but obseved, many say they are not allowed to interfer as karmic results will incure with the accounts of the Anunaki I am feeling to disagree with this.
We as a civilisation have been left to develope ourselves, sure their is a lot of crap out there , we spend billions on the military but this is just a phase in our ignorance before we see the gross stupidy of it all and eventially we will see our total conection to all life and only then will we wake up but we cannot be pushed, we must find this for ourselves in the correct time scale otherwise it would not sink in.

Global warming no, crap beyond crap, we are in a cooling stage, dont be blinded by all the hype based on Ql Gores bullshit or anyone else, think for youself and see there is a huge amount of very real informed information out there, I knew about all this stuff back in the 1960’s and where we were heading, whern I saw Al Gore and his total bullshit, Inconvenient truth, I knew through my deep intution that something was very wrong here and that a large amount of money was to be made by his scare tactics and now I hear he has bough a large mansion in LA nine bathrooms, so much crap in
getting rid our carbon footfrint.
