A tad on the Great Attractor

Len mentioned the Great Attractor (14 Sagg and 5 minutes), a fixed point at the center of Sagittarius. Mercury is conjunct this point today.

This fairly closely aligned with but not to be confused with the Galactic Core (26 Sagg and 59 minutes). At 26,000 light years away, the Galactic Core is our next door neighbor. The Great Attractor is a point located far, far away beyond our galaxy, so massive that it is like a vortex drawing toward it a million or so galaxies at the rate of about 24 million miles a day. Yes children, we travel 24 million miles every day for our whole lives, flying through space in the direction of Sagittarius — while the thing we are chasing retreats.

Have you wondered why these people born in late November through mid-December are so OUT THERE? Now you have a metaphor. Here is another: the GA is the biggest, heaviest and most massive thing that is known to science. It broadcasts on every radio spectrum but visible light. In other words, it is invisible. This is complicated by the fact that the dusty plane of our own galaxy interferes with the perception and ‘view’ of the object.

Back in 2001 I wrote a short article on the Great Attractor, and I still think it’s pretty good. To sum up, as an astrological influence, the Great Attractor creates a sense of polarization. It is a psychic property, not a necessary reality; but the feeling is “you love him or you hate him,” just like the people we love to love and love to hate. For bonus points, what to our beloved conservative talk show hosts — Limbagh, Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly — have conjunct, opposite or square the GA? Do any of them have 13-16 mutable on an angle?

  1. As someone with sun at 13 degrees sag opposition rising at 13 degrees gem, i completely relate to the polarization energy of the great attractor. As difficult as it was when I cared more about fitting in and being accepted than anything else, as I grew to accept its influence, I attributed it to almost every talent I have. Once I found my own unique way of expressing ‘out there’ thinking, I was drawn to others that ‘got’ me and they to me. Its been about finding my unique place, being willing to get behind and articulate unconventional ideas that are ahead of the curve, and being able to predict with some accuracy where society is headed. Its absolutely an asset, but it took a while to learn to work with it.

  2. Bonjour Mireille, Dave, E and Len (well, everybody really) – been away a few days and look what happens? Too many posts on here for me to catch up – s’no fair.

Anyway, very interested in your comments re position of GA in chart and particularly, Mireille your description of how you percieve it’s effects. It made me go check out my own. We’re opposite, but related I think.

North Node is in Gemini (in 10th) and is *opposite* the G A. The 10th is busy with N Node, Jupiter, Vesta, Lilith, Dionysus, Nessus and Hylonome to name a few, all in Gemini. Like you, I had looked around but had not found info on aspects to GA. I’m going to follow the suggestions for what’s going on with the rulers right now and see what’s what. Because something is going on with these nodes right now, and it’s doing my head in.

I was taken aback re the polarization – that resonates hugely.

    Much love, Hazel.

  3. RE fear of controversy: TOTALLY! Always trying to join perspectives together; so we end up seeing how everything always comes down to the same thing with different words.

Anyway, must go now. A la prochaine.

  4. Eric, Jere, I have to go now, but thank you for your coaching and insights. I look forward to talking more about this as we approach the Sun – GA conjunction.

  5. Just to add to that last post. Indeed, Gemini energy has been a huge challenge for me all my life, actually. I seem to have always had Geminis in my life to bring me back into it. It’s been both so easy to get caught up in over-analyzing and seeing everything from 10,000 perspectives, in addition to being disdainful (secretly fearing) of the idea of going on faith rather than rationality.

  6. Mirielle, if you’re gonna look into your north node, you might best explore your vision of the future: what you see, what you want to see.. suss it out.. Aim,.. fire. ?

As far as the north node on the G.A.?? No clues.. except, you have the capacity to see into “the shit that ‘strings’ us along”.. “..or the relative ‘flow'”, “or perhaps, this is where you’re headed.. not that I know what “THIS” Is!?!”.. *smiles, it’s fun to play with the possibilities!*

..But!, as far as an aspect,.. it can teach you if you look around it. (Astrologer’s and their Haughty Knowledge… most of ’em don’t ‘know’ half the shit they spew,.. book knowlege, HA! You’ve got to feel the shit. It’s yours to own.)

Eric works the Chiron transits a lot (I’ve noticed over the years),.. personally I find them to be helpful,.. but that’s my existence, and I’m not quite secure enough in my knowledge to ‘bust it out’. I do think anyone on the trip of figuring themselves out might want to bake on those ‘Chiron’ timeframes.. (solid geometric aspects to your natal).

Side note, throw as much down as you want.. it’s a relatively good crew here. These cats like to talk.. and some of ’em,.. even if you piss them off,.. they’ll still talk to you!?! Trust me on that one! 😉

Good luck on the North Node trip!!!

    Jere

  7. Jupiter is in Pisces opposite my Sun, which squares the GA within 2 degrees. Mercury is loosely conjunct Mars in late Virgo (3 degrees), and loosely trine my midheaven in Capricorn.

The impression I get from the Jupiter, GA, North, node, Sun t-square is that it might REALLY be easy to slip back into Gemini energy, given that the T-square leads into it. As for what Jupiter and Mercury’s roles are, I really don’t know since I’m not that knowledgeable as far as astrological conventions go.

  8. I suggest and am suggesting that you keep the focus inward, for now.

Great Attractor is not cookbook astrology. None of these new points are, and we need to rethink all the old points from a new reality framework.

Let’s go step by step. The rulers of your nodes are Mercury and Jupiter. What are they doing in your chart?

  9. I was struggling to start a research project on purification of hog manure as part of my Master’s degree. Struggling, because I was fighting with overwhelm and procrastination, and also because I was dealing with very demanding, inconsistent and unethical business partners who were always throwing chaos and urgency into the project. Plus I was living in a new city and beginning to realize just how much I was a small fish in this big pond.

I can see how this says something about how I was trying to process and make sense of everything (information) instead of moving forward on faith, which speaks to the south node in Gemini vs north node in Sagg, but I don’t see how the Great Attractor fits into this. I’ve read your article on the Great Attractor, but other than it being a mysterious massive, polarizing force, I don’t get how it affects me on a personal level.

Maybe I’m just on a hunt for more information even as I write this…

Anyway, thanks for dispelling my doubts about the node/GA aspect.

  10. Mireille, Eric,

With Saturn Mercury conjunct the G.A. in my natal chart I can attest to the polarization factor. For many years I was perplexed as to how I was treated by different people, some who had no reason to love or hate me, yet they did. It wasn’t until I started reading Planet Waves that the G.A. came into my consciousness that it started making some sense. In 2006 I had a session with a medical astrologer who talked at length about my Saturn Mercury conjunction, but never once mentioned it being conjunct to the G.A. I still don’t completely understand it. I can say that staying grounded and keeping my mind from racing is an ongoing issue.

    Take Care,
    Dave

  11. lol

Thanks for laying it out there, E. Of course. Where was my head?

Although I was definitely skeptical RE her attitude about the GA, she did manage to instill doubt about whether a point with no mass would be affected by an aspect with a body.

So the question remains for me – what meaning can I find for this — and unfortunately I’ve found virtually NOTHING on the internet about aspects with non-traditional planets and points. Any suggestions as to where I might go looking?

    M.

  12. I’m not going to ask who this astrologer is, but assuming your representation is accurate, they don’t seem to have the kind of mind that it takes to actually do astrology.

On these grounds, we would dismiss Pluto (it’s distant and small, basically a frozen fart) and we could toss the ascendant because it has no mass; in fact I’m looking right at it and it looks like a tree. Who puts trees into astrological charts? The part of fortune is also a hoax and so are the house cusps. In fact, the whole chart does not really exist, since it’s a map of the planets when you were born. As for progressions, they are purely symbolic and have nothing to do with anything.

Any theory of astrology based on gravity alone, or which dismisses things due to distance or size…well…what’s your astrologer’s address, I will send a deck of tarot cards.

  13. Hi everyone, boys what a weird day it’s feeling like! Both aware and escapist at the same time.

Anyway, concerning the Great Attractor, I recently realized that my North node conjoins it, and have been wondering about this ever since. Another astrologer told me that it musn’t mean much since she hadn’t even heard of the Great Attractor, and that if indeed it is so ‘way out there’, it must be insignificant in my chart. Plus, she said, since the node isn’t an actual body, it wouldn’t be affected by anyting with huge mass.

I was pretty disappoined to hear all this, since it pleased me to think that there might be some strong significance to this placement, that might offer me some hope in learning to deal with other challenging aspects in my chart. I think the words going through my head at the time were “Oh my god, finally something that’s NOT a square!!”

If you have any thoughts on this, I’d really love to hear them.

    Thanks in advance!

    Mireille
