Coming Home — Mars Arrives in Scorpio

Mars came home to Scorpio today, at 11:24 am EDT, raising the issue of the person you are at home. Mars is Scorpio’s original ruler. Pluto came on board as Scorpio’s modern ruler only recently. Ingress to its ancient domain of fixed water is thus a homecoming for the red planet. Coming home is not to be taken for granted, whether for planets or people. Appreciation of what coming home means will be among the issues represented by the Martian sojourn through Scorpio, from now until October 6.

Astrology by Len Wallick

If you are fortunate to have a residence to come home to, you can appreciate what Mars returning to Scorpio feels like. There is no place like home to express yourself with less inhibition. You can therefore anticipate that Mars will now be less inhibited in its own expression.

You experience Mars as energy. That is especially true of your own energy. An appropriate task while Mars is cruising through Scorpio is to anticipate an increase in your energy, and prepare a place for it to go. It can be a simple outlet, such as exercise, which would improve your physical health. You can also consider how to improve your home. It begins with examining how you already express yourself when you have safely returned to your place of residence.

Whether you reside alone or with others, the person you are at home contributes to the quality of life there. Acting to improve the quality of life at home does not require you to be inhibited. It does require that your self expression be a form of exercise undertaken with the same purpose and care as physical exercise.

The purpose of physical exercise is to improve your health, not damage it. Avoiding any practice that would cause injury is no reason to feel restricted. Knowingly exposing yourself to hazard does not increase your freedom. You do not feel the need to jog on an expressway as a matter of principle; it would be counterproductive to your purpose. By the same token, it would not serve the purpose of having a home if you insisted on being able to express yourself in such a way as to make it inhospitable. You take out the garbage as a favor to yourself, not as an obligation to somebody else.

While Mars is enjoying greater freedom of expression through Scorpio, put that awareness to use. You will probably feel the quantity of Martian energy increase of its own accord in the coming days and weeks. That increase does not have to be stressful or destructive. You do not have to be a mindless outlet, venting the energy indiscriminately just because you can. You can bring increased quality to match the increased quantity simply by exercising. Physical exercise, done with care, will improve the quality of your health. Exercising how you express yourself where you live will improve the health of your home. You can begin by simply removing the garbage.

    Dear Len,

Took me a few reads to get the message in the above, but I got it I believe. With my matal Moon in Scorpio (conjunct Saturn, also 9th house) I dove a little deeper and came upon this new sense of home that I might not otherwise know.

    Thank you, always

    love to you (all)

    mary

  2. this one made me smile. glad i read it this morning instead of yesterday because i read it having a good sense of what you mean by increased energy and the metaphors are instructive.

  3. Mars return in the 4th today. Especially apt piece to read. A bit of a twist, as SN is conjunct. But Saturn on the heels of Mars gives me pause and helps me direct the energy. Especially at a moment when so much seems to be a high-stake game of power/energy. A lot to handle – but the simple focus on a physical regimen in the morning and at night adds the right parenthetical statement to my days. I’ve been feeling this energy big time for a few days and no doubt it will continue. Had to take frequent breaks to sit and breathe. The fact that I have been managing it on the big peak bodes well, I think. Your piece is excellent confirmation. Thanks, Len.

  5. “Knowingly exposing yourself to hazard does not increase your freedom.”

“You do not have to be a mindless outlet, venting the energy indiscriminately just because you can.”

Len- these words articulate in a fresh way something Eric wrote last week in his article about therapy: “…American society, so obsessed with denial and immaturity…” So much of the call for freedom in our country is the cry of a 2 year old feeling constrained by the necessary and appropriate boundaries of mature parents, particularly among the “I hate the government & paying taxes & having responsibilities, but keep the roads paved, give me a kick-ass military and don’t touch my medicare, tea party crowd.”

Venting indiscriminately, mindlessness, and creating hazards through denial (climate change? Move along, nothing to see here), are the hallmarks of the American psyche, or at least the part that is under evolutionary pressure and acting out it’s resistance to the Uranus-Pluto square. I pray Mars in Scorpio can provide a little evolutionary impetus.

Thanks, as always, for the good words.

  6. Hello Len
We are going to finally make day has this dear March, is returning, one lit candle failing to make a grand fireworks
Thanks for this message to pay tribute to our legendary hero Ares 🙂

  7. Len, this is so ‘right here’ for me. Thank you.

Mars moved into the home of my Sun and Moon, in the 9th house. I have indeed been taking out the garbage, but I also have a bit of, if you have something important to say to me, for god’s sake begin at the end. Perhaps I need to ‘patiently’ take out the garbage!!

Have a feeling this will be a crash course for Mars in Sag…my natal Mars; perhaps time to stock up on extra vitamins…

    Always a big thank you.

  8. Perfect. Just perfect Len. Next Wednesday I’m initiating the year of Isis as the Sun conjuncts natal Isis, which is what I hope will turn out to be the year I get it all together. I’ve worried a tad about transiting Mars square natal Mars on that day, but I see there is a much more purposeful use of that energy than say breaking a leg or some other self injury. Thank you for this better perspective. I’ll start with the garbage and go from there./be

P.S. For anyone trying to connect to Len’s offering about the DNA from my comment on Fe’s article, I’m sorry that didn’t work. Instead just click on the ‘View all Posts by Len Wallick’ link at the end of this article and you will find it dated July 2 (I think) titled Culmination To Connection – Venus Sextile Uranus

  9. “That increase does not have to be stressful or destructive. … You can begin by simply removing the garbage.”

That is perfect Len. What a fantastic metaphor. As I commented before, Mars was holding a secret. That is now on the table for revelation. From Virgo to Libra, it was molded and cajoled into a reformation at once painfully incessant and powerfully constructive. After its restriction in Libra, it is boldly yet altogether maturely, resurfacing in Scorpio like a beautiful Phoenix ready to cast a light and a bold new direction. When it leaves, Saturn will take its place to keep that mold intact. The nodes and eclipses will open the door for those who have embraced a deep metaphysical transformation, walking through it and never looking back. I think we spent a lot of focus on the Venus transit and that transformational aspect that we might have overlooked the Martian transformation and indeed the greater Scorpionic season we are entering. Solar feminine, feminine healing? Well, now it might just be time to recognize some masculine healing. Indeed that these two healing processes have/are happening concurrently is something to note for the greater balance of our beautiful inner Man and our radiant inner Woman.

  10. Thanks, Len.
Yesterday was tumultuous for me (lots of ups and downs), so your post today is welcome – calming, logical, easy to digest.
