Inner potential, outward observation

Today is Thursday, August 4, 2011. The Moon is in Libra all day and leaving a conjunction with Saturn in Libra at 2:53 am EDT. As The Scales, Libra is about balance, natural harmony and measuring up socially. Saturn here is pretty powerful and concerned with bringing long-term harmony to your life by structuring, solidifying and crystallizing the social aspects of your life to reflect a strong sense of inner personal authority. After sunset this evening, you can see the Moon and Saturn along with the bright star Spica.

Spica represents the concepts of gifts and giftedness. With Saturn and the Moon approaching this star, you may have the opportunity for some encounters with VIP authority figures who are very gifted and may also be able to recognize your giftedness or your inner potential.

It is important to come to meetings with bosses, advisors and any other authority figures with a sense of respect. If they are not the genuine thing, you can always place chip on shoulder and go searching for your own inner authority later, but you donโ€™t have to start there — in fact, it is probably advisable not to.

The other main aspect today is a sextile between Mercury retrograde in Virgo and Mars in Cancer. Both of these planets just recently moved into these signs, and with Mercury moving backward there is a sense of having arrived somewhere that may be both a little strange and uncomfortable. Itโ€™s kind of like moving into your new office while the previous person is cleaning out their stuff and putting it into a box. You may be feeling or sensing the emotional history of something that is not really yours or belongs to the past.

Itโ€™s still good to pay attention and maybe even ask a few questions because you may have to deal with a few repercussions depending on how well tied-up the loose ends are. This is also a mark of maturity, authority and leadership: the ability to sense the currents of your environment, ask the appropriate questions and then respond accordingly. The virtue of gravitas comes from respect for a situation and a sense of response-ability toward it.

  1. The last two paragraphs of the article: that’s EXACTLY what happened!!!
And true, it’s an opprtunity for maturity, authority and leadership.
    Thank you Gary.

  2. oh, that song has been a favorite of mine since high school! sometimes a local rock station woulds play it on rainy days during the morning bus ride. thanks carrie for the reminder. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Just when I thought this thread could not get any phunnier, along comes Wet Dream! Way to go, Carrie! I had a good giggle or three watching this one.

My father was a serial punner and he be chuckling in his grave tonight fer shure ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Len –

I’ve been watching the solar flux and other indices closely as well, and yes, they went way, way up two days ago. That both helps and hinders shortwave signals.

The stations, on the other hand, definitely fell prey to electronic difficulties. Even if I couldn’t receive them well enough to listen, I would still be able to tell if they were “there” or not. Well, there was no “there” there.

I’m actually listening for digital format signals from Sri Lanka, Canada, French Guyana, Italy, Costa Rica, and New Zealand. Only Sri Lanka and Italy have not had outages, the others big time. This requires a PC to translate the digital format signal to audio and the decoding program is able to show the radio spectrum visually, like a very fancy oscilloscope, and so the listener (viewer?) is able to determine if the signal is too weak for decoding, or simply isn’t there at all. A very different way to listen to shortwave admittedly, but when it works like it should, you are in the room with the announcer, and not listening to snap, crackle, and pop as well.

Very O/T, and I could go on for a long time about it, gladly. Been a hobby for far too many years now.

  5. Brendan,
We have also had some very strong solar activity for the past three days (and it’s ramping up) so that might also have something to do with the radio problems. This sunspot complex known as “1261” could make a big name for itself if it keeps spouting flares as it has been.

  6. Len – I miss Ivar! He was such an icon, and fun. A real native son of the Salish Sea.

Speaking of Mercury retrograde, several of the foreign shortwave stations I monitor daily have had transmitter problems over the last few days. Nothing planned, just outages and/or unable to transmit. First time I’ve ever noticed such a strong correlation to Merc’s backward ways, something that most of my fellow listeners would not believe… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. haha Len — thanks for the laugh. i do love a good pun. squatting down to take this photo took a little mussel.

    (groan….)

  8. Amanda,
Thank you for the photo reminder to (in the words of a seagull-loving restauranteur) “keep clam”.

  9. Gary,
Thank you for the heads-up on Spica. It’s a great service to people who will go out tonight, look at it and say “so that’s what that is”. Also a useful marker to help us find Saturn. Thank you as well for your take on the Mercury-Mars sextile which does indeed have a special sense to it.

  10. The Universe is unfolding as it should… this is EXACTLY what is happening today. I have been waiting for this day, forever it seems. Thank You.
