Guest Oracle: American Studies with Abraham

Published by under Daily Oracle

I first encountered this idea in a class called American Norms and Deviations with Prof. Robert Knox Denton at SUNY Buffalo. My professor’s theory was that when a law is passed, it creates a new category of deviants or criminals out of people who were considered normal, and whose activity was considered lawful, the day before. This happens over and over again until finally, everyone is included, sometimes many times, in one definition of deviant or another.

Notes from the Far Side of the Galaxy

Published by under Astro Daily

Today is Tuesday July 26, 2011. The Gemini Moon is moving toward balsamic or extreme waning phase, heading for the Leo New Moon on Saturday. Mercury is slow and powerful right now, moving a little over half a degree a day as it gets ready to station retrograde one week from today. That, incidentally, happens to be the day the federal government runs out of money unless somebody figures out how to get the mule to move.

Mercury slowing down puts an emphasis on the mental sphere, and with any luck your mind is feeling focused. But if you’re not, that’s understandable enough: Mars is in late Gemini, which accentuates an argumentative mentality, and it’s opposite the Galactic Core. I view the Core as a kind of spiritual source or homing signal. It’s always calling us, inviting us, reminding us of what is possible as we live our lives on the edge of the spiral. Mars in late Gemini (180 degrees opposite the core, which is in Sagittarius) seems to have an ‘unspiritual’ feeling that wants for balance and a sense of ethics. It can have an ‘anything goes’ feeling to it, or that queasy sense you get when you meet someone for whom the ends justify the means.

In the summer months, on a clear night we can see the center of the galaxy, or at least see the streak of stars that show us approximately where it is. I think that has a reassuring feeling. In winter, the galaxy is missing from the night sky, which in part accounts for the wistful sense of longing or loneliness that time of year. Now we have Mars opposite the galaxy, which can be stirring up that feeling, and leading to a potential state of mental imbalance unless you can keep your spiritual (which means loving, purposeful) focus. On Earth, getting along is not a luxury of happiness or survival — it’s a necessity.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Published by under Daily Oracle

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Libra monthly of March 7, 2005.

The Oracle.

It’s likely that in the past three years every aspect of your home has been reorganized recreated eliminated or been rendered unrecognizable. What has come to take its place? Have you intentionally created it or are you living with what has shown up? I would say there is a mix of both but I would strongly suggest that the parts you can’t say for sure were born of your own will and vision be evaluated immediately. You have the ability to change anything you want or need to change but first you need to know what it is.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.

Cancer Birthdays for 2011 — An Audio Report by Eric Francis

Published by under Planet Waves Promo

Dear Friend and Reader:

I’ve just finished the birthday astrology report for the sign Cancer. The report consists of three segments — about an hour of astrology, and a 20 minute tarot reading. The reading is designed to span one year from birthday to birthday. If you have a Cancer Moon or rising sign, you will find it useful and interesting.

 Eric Francis

Eric Francis

I describe your astrology in clear, useful terms. The recording starts mellow and by the end I’m pretty charged up about the patterns I’m seeing in your solar chart.

As you may know, Cancer is one of the signs most influenced by the current, ongoing cardinal cross — Saturn in Libra, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn (your sign is the fourth leg of that cross). This tells us that all of the major aspects of your life are going through profound changes; you are ready for these evolutionary steps.

I focus on two main points, and give many other details from your solar chart. The first point is relationships. You have Pluto in your opposite sign Capricorn, and this is gradually taking apart your old expectations and patterns in relationships. We are all fed (really, force-fed) traditional modes of having relationships, and these are starting to be seen as the antique items they are.

Something new is calling you; you’ve outgrown the relationship style of your grandparents, you recognize that your life is different from your parents’ lives — and now, you’re in entirely new territory. My descriptions of Pluto in Capricorn will be helpful as you figure out where you are and what your needs are.

Next, I focus on your career, which is undergoing a similar revolution. You have Uranus in Aries moving across the top of your chart — your solar 10th house. This is about nothing less than reinventing your career, but really, you’re reinventing yourself, then deciding what you want to do with that newly recreated self. I provide both ideas and encouragement for you to step out of your old plans and morph your professional goals into something distinctly modern, uniquely suited to who you are. Events in your professional life (Uranus in Aries) are directly related to your ‘relationship’ life because that describes how you’re adapting to life in a constantly changing world.

I cover this and much more in this extended audio report for just $14.95. There are also a number of extra features and extreme discounts on other related products mentioned in the audio report. Speaking as one born with Cancer rising, I was very excited to go over this astrology and explore the possibilities. This is a fun report. I think you’ll love it.

Lovingly,
Eric Francis

A Truth of Your Own – The Occultation of Mars by the Moon

By Len Wallick

This coming Wednesday, the Moon will pass completely in front of Mars, blocking it from view. That is called an occultation. It would also be appropriate, if not precisely accurate, to call the event a special-case conjunction or an eclipse. Sound familiar? It should.

Something very similar happened near the end of June, when Luna crossed paths with Venus in exactly the the same spot in late Gemini. We are therefore getting an opportunity to participate in a grand and potentially enlightening experiment that will tell us all something about ourselves individually and collectively. A good experiment maximizes the constants and minimizes the variables. That way, it is possible to isolate the variables and learn something about them.

The successive lunar occultations of Venus and Mars in the same degree of the same sign, 28 days apart, along with a remarkable number of events to follow, are clearly related. Those are the constants. The most substantial variables are the archetypes represented by Venus and Mars themselves. The object of our experiment, then, is to distinguish our relationship to those archetypes and figure out how they are expressed in our lives.

The 26th degree of Gemini has an auspicious Sabian symbol that includes the image of trees, frost and winter skies. The visionary astrologer Dane Rudyar interprets that tableau to represent the “revelation of archetypal form” as all the extraneous umbrage is stripped away leaving only the barest expression of reality and an “essential rhythm of existence.” In this case our attention is clearly being directed away from the constants distinguished by repetition and toward the starkly contrasting variables that remain: Venus and Mars.

The eminent astrologer Robert Hand refers to Venus as “a Yin planet” that “rules the spontaneous power of attraction.” Mars, on Robert’s other hand, is described as the Yang counterpart representing “the drive of an entity to be itself.” Together they form a set of polarities with a continuous and dynamic balance that is “rather delicate and easily upset.” If the course of public events in July is any indicator, the lunar occultation of Venus seems to have coincided with a tipping in favor of the Martian archetype.

Moon enters Gemini, Mercury opposes Chiron-Neptune

Published by under Astro Daily

Somewhere along Route 17 in western Maine. Photo by Amanda Painter.

Today is Monday July 25, 2011. The Moon leaves Taurus today for chatty, divided, airy Gemini at 12:34 pm EDT. How are you feeling today? It may be Monday, but hopefully a weekend with the Moon in good ol’ earthy Taurus has left you feeling a bit more grounded after last week. Did you find yourself managing to downshift to a more humane speed? Were you able to take a moment to actually feel the solidness of the soil beneath your feet? Did you notice the light of the newly-Leo Sun shining just right between the trees or reflecting off the water?

Earth & water - photo by Eric.

Adapting to the working week can be a stretch sometimes, especially during the summer when weekends are spent outdoors. Stretch gently, without trying to impress anyone. Before leaving Taurus, the Moon makes aspects to Venus (a sextile), to Mercury (a square) and finally to Juno (a trine). There is a reminder here to keep small matters small; to keep a handle on your emotions and proceed from one task to the next without attachment. You’re likely to be able to slip easily out of an issue that threatens to evoke jealousy. Remember that commitment is demonstrated over years, not just days or weeks.

The Moon in Taurus is a reminder to stay in contact with the sensory world, something it’s easy to forget to do when we get mentally (or emotionally) involved, even in making breakfast. Take a moment now to remember that moment with every sense you have. Close your eyes: feel the grass or the breeze; hear the birds and the waves; smell the warm earth or the cool pond in the woods; taste the salt spray or the berry fresh from the bush; see the sunrise or the sunset. Are you there? Notice. Let the sensation of your own presence sink in and permeate you, so you can call it up again should you need it later in the day or in the week.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Monday, July 25, 2011

Published by under Daily Oracle

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Taurus monthly of Dec. 4, 2006.

The Oracle.

Home is where the front door closes and locks. Home is where you are the boss. Many people pay rent but don’t know the power of that lock; many more still feel like they live in their parents’ place, or must follow the rules of phantom authority figures in their minds who seem to know what is best, having nothing to do with what feels right, or what you want, or what you need, for that matter. Times are changing fast. There was an element of deception you needed to penetrate; there was a door you needed to walk through. Remember how you did it, because you may need to do it again.

Greetings from Chinatown

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Saturday evening I drove down to Manhattan (a two hour drive from where I live, in the mountains north of the metropolitan area) to have dinner with Jeff Apter, a friend from Paris. We ate at Wo Hop at 17 Mott Street. The walls are adorned with signed photos of the noted and the newsworthy who have passed through the hallowed basement restaurant. I know Jeff, who took this photo, through the National Union of Journalists of the UK. He heads up the Paris branch; I am a member of that branch, joining while working for the British tabloids and living in Paris. NUJ is a bit like a guild; members are elected in based on a review of their experience. It was a balmy, quiet night in New York -- a perfect night in the city.

When you feel trapped and overwhelmed by your thoughts and feelings, know that support is there for you. It is a sense of self that emanates from within, and which connects you to everything and everyone else. You are doing your best; and your best is good enough.

6 of Wands, 9 of Swords, 5 of Cups - RWS Tarot deck.

Six of Wands, Nine of Swords, Five of Cups from the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot deck. Click on the image for a larger version.

How many times have we had the Six of Wands in our Weekend Tarot Reading? Enough for it to be markedly significant — to have our attention drawn to it for more than a fleeting moment.

I feel that this is a message to us: that in spite of everything that we might believe, or that we might look at to prove otherwise, we are doing well. In fact, we are doing our very best; and it is good enough. We are good enough. Apart from the people in the background in the Six of Wands, the main figures in all three cards are alone. This doesn’t mean that we sit at the centre of the universe, and that nothing else matters. Rather, it speaks of a period where we are withdrawn from the world while we are called to deal with our inner lives.

The Six of Wands is about recognition for something — although even here a sense of separateness is palpable: of the faces we can just about see in the small crowd flanking him, only one seems to be directed towards the rider. It’s not that they have no interest in what he is doing. It just seems that there are other things that are demanding their attention. It is the rider’s own comportment that suggests a mood of celebration more than anything else. Yes, the wands around him are raised; yes, the skies are blue and the colours bright. Yes, there is acknowledgement from an outside source — otherwise there would be no need for a parade in the first place. However, if we look at the rider, it is he who embodies a sense of victory: he sits upright on his horse, chest out, shoulders back; he is the one who bears two laurel wreaths; it is on his wand that the red ribbon is tied.
