Astrology Today: Oracle for Sunday, June 26, 2011

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Scorpio daily of August 12, 2005

The Oracle.

Action is almost always the result of clear decisions. You need to guard against thinking anything you decide over the weekend is final. I know you want it to be. I know that you’re feeling like you need to get a particular matter off of your mind. But at the very most even when you figure out what you figure out over the next couple of days you’ll be working with less than half the information — and I assure you a lot is at stake. Money trust and a professional partnership all hang in the balance right now. Please don’t rush into anything or say anything you’ll regret.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.

Good read: NYT on how Cuomo got marriage equality through

Published by under GLBT rights

From a NY Times article published Saturday. Link below.

This is one of the best NY Times articles I’ve read in years, a behind the scenes description of how Cuomo, working with some Wall Street conservatives who donate to politics, as well as a tightly organized coalition of gay rights organizations, got the issue through. I am putting this up mainly for those who have some aspiration of accomplishing anything through politics. It’s always the same. You have to build a coalition to stand up against the chickenshits who will only vote the party line. Then, it’s history. I mean that literally: all the former opponents disappear into the mists of time, the better to be forgotten.

Pulling the Masks off of Jealousy Again – and Again

Published by under Polyamory

By Maria Padhila

I stopped doing a lot of things in the ’80s, and one of them was being jealous.

Poly Paradise at Burning Man. Photo by Eric.

I realized this because I started to think back, trying to test myself to see if what I thought was my freedom from jealousy was real or just something I was gritting my teeth and trying to maintain. I think I owe it to myself and the people I’m with to do that kind of self-test, that awareness check-in, from time to time. While there are times a variety of jealousy jumps out and grabs me like a cat from under the bed — more about that later — it’s just about as significant, and makes me laugh (unless it’s just annoying because I’m in a hurry — or unless the ambush is intended to leave a scratch, in which case it needs investigating).

“Don’t you get jealous?” is the big question people ask when they talk about polyamory. The lazy answer is no, we don’t get jealous, we feel ‘compersion’, and that’s what I’d say if I fully understood compersion, which I may never do. The surface definition is that you enjoy another’s pleasure independent of you as much as you enjoy your own. Compersion is a very complex topic, and to write about it, I think I better bring in an expert at a later date.

But back to the ’80s — if you can stand it. Younger people I know seem to love to rehash those days. My daughter, set to work cleaning out her drawers and closets today, just came downstairs in a tulle skirt, leggings, glitter belt, torn t-shirt, one fingerless glove, and a pile of necklaces. I could have been looking into a time-tunnel. And there I was in my leggings and torn t-shirt (pretty much what I still wear today), face down on my then-boyfriend’s king-size bed that filled his basement apartment, in misery because he was out with his old girlfriend.

Ever Wonder Why It’s So Hard To Get Progressive Traction?

Published by under by Judith Gayle

5 to 4: The Republican Coup

By Judith Gayle | Political Waves

Last week I mentioned that, with a couple of notable exceptions, George Bush didn’t do much for his party. The exception we explored was the growing extremism Dubby fostered by ignoring fact in favor of conservative fancy and pushing ideology rather than responsible policy. There is, however, another accomplishment for which we might blame or thank him, depending on our party affiliation and our desire to live on into a new era or perish like the mastodon. The GOP has largely forgiven their lesser Bush a plethora of fiscal indiscretions and policy gaffes based on his appointment of two hard-core Federalist ideologues to life-terms on the Supreme Court of the United States, also known as SCOTUS.

Political Blog, News, Information, Astrological Perspective.

Of the three branches of government, the judicial is the one to which we give the least attention, and we pay a staggering price for our ignorance. The slow erosion of our social norms follow judicial changes that we seldom notice, another example of the truism that all politics are personal and we all enjoy or suffer their consequences. We fancy ourselves a nation of laws, yet again and again we discover our laws slowly eroded and tarnished. For reasons beyond my ken, we seem shocked to find justice used as a political pawn.

If the legislative and executive branches form the body and brain of our government, then SCOTUS is the bones upon which everything else hangs. With the Constitution as its true north, SCOTUS is designed to be the tie-buster, issuing the final word for contentious cases that come up through the lower courts. Once a decision is made by SCOTUS, the only recourse is through congressional bills redefining the matter. And after taking the oath, a Supreme Court candidate becomes a high court judge for life. Abiding by no formal code of ethics, Supreme Court justices can only be removed from office by impeachment. Talk about yer job security!

We need to pick these people a little more carefully, don’t you think? Just imagine the power to shape not only the nation, but also the life of every citizen in it! If that seems a little overblown, remember the election that kicked off this new century: a narrowly won Al Gore presidency stolen by a SCOTUS 5:4 vote. The Republican cause was aided and abetted by a high court that should never have interfered, a court so nervous about its decision that the judges even called their ruling in Bush’s favor a one-time exception and not a precedent. In the ensuing years, Bush appointments created an even more radical judiciary. In the past decade of corporate influence and income disparity, the high court of these United States has become a political arm of the GOP, and that’s about as personal as it gets.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Saturday, June 25, 2011

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo weekly of Feb. 11, 2005

The Oracle.

Please don’t squander all your precious energy on work. There is so much more calling you and if you haven’t noticed you’re having an early case of spring fever. This is or is soon to be one of your “the rules were made to be broken” phases of life. In the end your tendency to be an iconoclast and resist authority is going to help your work which would benefit greatly from the breath of fire a long stretch and an all-night brainstorming session. Keep it loose keep it light; creativity gets more done than labor — a lot more.

The phone just rang; it was Corbis, calling on behalf of rock photographer Neal Preston; yes we can use this image as part of our tribute to Clarence Clemons — The Big Man kissing Bruce Springsteen in Los Angeles in October 1985. Or rather, on the mouth.

Moon or Mercury: Who to Believe?

Published by under Astro Daily

We support grandmas! New York State Senate, do what's right! Photo by Eric Francis.

Today is Friday, June 24, 2011. The Moon is in Aries all day, and enters Taurus on Saturday at 4:53 pm EDT. Before it gets there, it will make a square aspect (90 degrees) to Mercury in Cancer. This brings up an old question: when you have a thought, how do you know it’s your intuition speaking? How do you know you’re not being paranoid, or just wrong? And what if your ‘mind’ says one thing and your ‘intuition’ says another thing? How many times do you have to check that your door is locked before you figure out that it’s not your intuition telling you that it’s still unlocked (the official answer is 14-1/2 times)?

Moon square Mercury is one of those aspects that seems to put the feeling body into a tense relationship with the thinking mind. Yet with a square, it’s not a question of either/or — remember that in case you’re bugging out over one. It’s a question of working with each side of the equation until you have an answer that satisfies both. This goes for the squares in your natal chart, and it goes for the squares that are cruising by in the transiting sky. I think rather than have a theoretical debate with yourself, it’s better to assess the facts, then see what they add up to logically and then see what they add up to when you ‘feel’ their implications. Then if something is really important, check the facts again. I can tell you this, with both Venus and Mars in Gemini, there are a lot of different opinions in there; a lot of opinions buzzing around. Heck, even your opinions have opinions, and some have an attitude.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Friday, June 24, 2011

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Capricorn weekly of Jan. 17, 2003

The Oracle.

You may be feeling a mad flight impulse or urge to escape, or a craving for peak experiences, or a desire to plunge into your inner depths like never before. Without a few moments of reflection, the distinctions may not be obvious, and hence, the choices may not seem available. And choice is very important to you right now, both the prospect and the act of deciding. You are, at the moment, standing in your own portal to life, which is a space where many good things have happened, and many horrendous ones. All your experiences of this world are inscribed on the walls of this temple, and it feels like you’ve been here so many times before that it’s not worth noticing. But if you’ll notice, you will see that despite the illusion of familiarity, you’ve never passed this way before.
