Special Eclipse Issue

This special eclipse issue was mailed to subscribers yesterday.

Hey Folks! In order to get the July Monthly horoscopes to subscribers with an article about the July 1 eclipse before the eclipse became old news, we sent out a special Wednesday evening issue combining our usual Tuesday and Friday issues. But with the change in routine, we forgot to post the issue announcement to the blog!

The couple days on either side of an eclipse are also pretty potent, and the horoscopes are good for the whole month, so if you’d like to buy this issue now, there’s still time to meditate on it. Just click here. If you’d like to try a free one-month trial offer and like the ease of PayPal, you can use this button:

I was thinking of this in light of our Daily Astrology post from this morning. We may think we don’t remember our original instructions; but maybe we just have to want to, or to open up to what we already know? – amanda

Numinous Crossing – Partial Solar Eclipse on July 1, 2011

By Len Wallick

Sun and Moon cross paths in the sky tomorrow just before 5:00 am EDT. On the surface, it would seem that they will do so much as they did on the first day of June. Once again it is a New Moon and also a partial solar eclipse. Most of the similarities, however, end there. This particular crossing is, as many of us find ourselves, in a different place doing different things. It is also calling our attention in a different direction.

Just 30 days ago, the luminaries conjoined in Gemini. Both Sol and Luna were approaching one of the lunar nodes, where eclipses take place. They were close enough to that node so that the Moon partially blocked the Sun’s light. The shadow fell across the arctic regions, intersecting our northern geomagnetic pole. That’s the place where Earth’s magnetic field plunges back into its mysterious place of origin. The corresponding focus was the Earth and our relation to it. Specifically, how little we know of our planet’s interior workings and, by implication, our own. It also was a beginning, a portal into a period of changing patterns, both symbolic and real.

The symbolic patterns were expressed through the planets. Following the eclipse on June 1, numerous objects in our solar system commenced to changing sign or apparent direction at a rate exceeding one every two days. That sort of pace and complexity are not routine or customary. For many of us, the course of astrological events has been reflected in our own lives. Many found themselves adjusting to and integrating new patterns of living, either chosen or imposed.

Renegotiating your sacred contract: solar eclipse in Cancer

Published by under Astro Daily

Arlo, ready to march. Photo by Chelsea Bottinelli.

Today is Thursday, June 30, 2011. The Moon enters Cancer at 12:11 pm EDT. This puts the Moon in the same sign as the Sun and the solar eclipse of tomorrow. In the Vedic mythology concerning eclipses, the gods and demons together churned the ocean of milk in order to create an elixir of immortality.

This idea of immortality is a theme which is worth exploring today and tomorrow. Eclipses happen when there is a New or Full Moon near the lunar nodes. These are the intersection points of the path of the Moon and the path of the Sun, where the Sun and Moon are perfectly aligned in three dimensions. Evolutionary astrologers believe these nodes represent something akin to what Caroline Myss calls your “sacred contract.” This means the nodes say something about your soul’s intentions for incarnating.

Let’s assume for a moment that this is true, that the lunar nodes represent a sort of portal through which souls with similar intentions come into the material plane for certain kinds of experiences. What this means is that a particular kind of contract is being activated at any given time. Since the Sun and Moon align with the nodes at an eclipse, it seems like a moment when these contracts get activated as agreements. This means right now thousands of souls are getting their marching orders for incarnation over the next six months, or at least setting their intentions consciously.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Thursday, June 30, 2011

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo weekly of July 5, 2004

The Oracle.

It is true, people don’t know what you conceal. I know you think you’re like a sheet of glass with your heart pulsing and illuminated on the other side. It’s not that way. Your feelings are opaque like onyx, deep, black and polished. Most of what people see in you is their own reflection. And if they are not sure whether they like it, that’s not about you: but you’re looking out at them, and you can see their faces, and when they respond to what they see in you with electricity and passion, you may have reason to doubt that. I can tell you this. If someone is excited about himself, that’s the best thing you can desire.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.

Of eclipses, identity, hockey, dads and me

We’re closing in on the last of three powerful eclipses within one month, and every astrology site on the Internet has been buzzing with the same call: “Let go of what no longer serves you! Embrace who you came here to be!” It’s dramatic and exciting; for some it’s intimidating and terrifying; some take up the call to allow change obsessively; and for some the transformations at hand are subtle and seem to come out of nowhere — and it can be hard to tell if they stick. For sure, however, in each case a shift is occurring.

With one eclipse left to go, I’m not going to predict where I’m going to end up. But I would like to describe where I am along my arc at the moment. What I can say is that the phase between the first two eclipses had a certain flavor, a theme shared — bizarrely enough — with the professional sports teams and fans of a certain New England city. Granted, the theme of releasing an old identity has played out a bit differently for the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins than it has for me. But try as I might to separate the threads, certain points of contact seem to keep them irrevocably intertwined.

You see, just after the total lunar eclipse conjunct the Galactic Core on June 15, the Boston Bruins won North America’s pro hockey championship trophy, the Stanley Cup. It was their first Cup in 40 years, since the 1972 team featuring Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito thrilled New England hearts, despite a record 29 consecutive playoff appearances ending in the mid-‘90s.

I’m a bit of a lapsed hockey fan, I hate to admit, but I’ve never lacked love and loyalty for my ‘home’ teams in baseball and hockey. Throughout my childhood, the Boston Red Sox served as one of several points of contact between my dad and me. He was never a ‘fanatic’, but appreciated the game, as well as the team he adopted after moving to Maine. Both of us could be transported by the thought of long-time Red Sox radio announcer Joe Castiglione calling a game to the memory of warm summer evenings in the car with my family. Driving home from my Italian great-uncle’s summer cottage, the air was full of crickets and lightning bugs and the smell of the earth radiating the Sun’s heat back into the night, underlaid with the knowledge that as much as we wanted to believe this would be “their year,” our hearts would get broken yet again.

The Chariot: Bringing yourself into being

Published by under Reading Tarot

Editor’s Note: If you want to experiment with tarot cards and don’t have any, we provide a free tarot spread generator using the Celtic Wings spread, which is based on the traditional Celtic Cross spread. This article explains how to use the spread. You can visit Sarah’s website here. –efc

By Sarah Taylor

Last week, I invited your comments on The Chariot, and received valuable contributions that felt like small but perfectly formed conversations between intellect and intuition — entirely appropriate given the card we’re addressing.

The Chariot - RWS Tarot deck.

The Chariot from the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot deck. Click on the image for a larger version.

This week, I’m going to take a closer look at this, the seventh card in the major arcana, incorporating aspects of those comments with what stands out for me in the card, as well as some ideas introduced by the writers of two of the accompanying texts to the cards: The Tarot Codex by clinical psychologist Michael Owen, and Tarot of The Spirit by deck co-creator Pamela Eakins, Ph.D.

What I’ve noticed about The Chariot in my own readings with clients is that its appearances are relatively rare; it is definitely not one of the old familiars that visit with some frequency. What’s also interesting is that I really haven’t given it due attention, until recently. I don’t believe for a moment that these two statements are unconnected.

I think that those times when The Chariot comes up are exceptional because it speaks of something exceptional that is seeking expression. It reflects the idea that much is being asked of us, and we are being encouraged to take a deep and courageous look at who we are, our beliefs, and where we are going. Maybe The Chariot only appears when we develop the inner sight to acknowledge and understand it.

All three versions of The Chariot (The Warrior in the Xultun Tarot deck) have elements of the cosmos as a key part of their imagery. The charioteer’s crown in the Rider-Waite Smith (RWS) version, for example, has a crown that is evocative of the one worn by The Empress four cards before it in the major arcana; The Warrior in the Xultun deck sits under a starred cloth; the figure in the Tarot of The Spirit (ToTS) has a beam of stars linked to its crown chakra. There are astrological glyphs on the charioteer’s clothing in the RWS version, Moons and Sun in the RWS and ToTS cards.

Attract or repel? Gemini Moon, Mars and Venus

Published by under Astro Daily

Part of the set for "Cymbeline Underground," performed in Battery Steele, Peaks Island, Maine. Photo by Amanda Painter.

Today is Wednesday, June 29, 2011. The Moon is in Gemini all day. Gemini is a mutable sign, which means that rather than initiating anything new, or solidifying that which has been initiated, follow any urges to apply, adapt and distribute that which has already been made solid.

Earth & water - photo by Eric.

Through each of the signs, the Moon collects and distributes the light of the Sun. It has recently left a conjunction with Mars in Gemini and is moving toward a conjunction with Venus in Gemini (the occultation Len wrote about Monday). Imagine the Moon passing like a strong electro-magnet from Mars to Venus today, and you get an image to describe any strong attraction or repulsion you may be feeling.

Venus and Mars are closest to Earth, and fuel some of our most intimate, immediate and personal responses to life. Within our psyches, when Venus finds something attractive or valuable, then Mars will spontaneously seek to meet or conquer the object of desire. Conversely, when Venus finds something repulsive, Mars will fight or draw a boundary against it. When operating on a healthy level, there is a synergistic energy flow and exchange between these two planets.

Don’t freak out if you feel a strong Venus-Mars aspect as something less than healthy, fun or sexy. These two are very strong opposites; the alchemical reaction from combining Venus and Mars can feel like pressure or an inner storm brewing. And while you don’t want to batten down your hatches too tightly and bottle up all that energy, neither do you want to let it fly loose at innocent bystanders. Alternately, you may experience this reaction externally, through an intense person or experience that whirls in and out of your life, leaving your head spinning.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo weekly of June 27, 2008

The Oracle.

Slowly, you seem to be sorting out your worst fears from your practical concerns. Among your practical concerns is the issue of how your fears have taken hold of your life, and some of them are exceedingly old. It is no help that you know the issues, you have a map to the territory, and you can sincerely say you’ve seen it all before. I suggest you ask yourself, what will it take for you to feel safe? How much money? What contract? How much reassurance? There are a lot of people right now — doomsday worshippers, and there are millions of them — who think they will not feel safe until the first atomic bomb goes off over an American city. You have a more realistic vision, but like the people who are obsessed with the apocalypse, you need to reconcile yourself with the fact that everything you see and who you are will someday change; and that will set you free.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.
