Mercury and Venus exact an unusual conjunction in Aries today only hours after both conjoin separately with Eris. The three planets occupy one degree of the zodiac. This is essentially a single, continuous aspect for the three objects involved. It begins an eventful week for the so-called personal planets. Their common and collective activity imply that we are somewhere in the midst of setting new patterns and starting new cycles in our lives.

The term personal planet is reserved for the three with orbital periods around the Sun that repeat scores of times in a typical human life span — Mercury, Venus and Mars. For Mercury, that period of time is about 88 Earth days. A year on Venus is about 225 days for us. Finally, Mars, the third member of the group, takes about 687 of our days to make the solar round trip. The implication is that such short periods of time correspond to patterns and cycles you are likely to experience over and over again during a single tenure on Earth.
The current, long term weather report for the personal planets is that they will all have followed the Sun into Taurus by this time next week. Mars goes first, sometime early Wednesday (3:04 am EDT) for most of you reading this.
In the meantime, however, Mercury and Venus have some unfinished business. That business begins with today’s triple conjunction with Eris in Aries. This follows the pattern set when Mars and Jupiter conjoined with Eris, then each other, in one continuous aspect to end April and begin the month of May. According to the established order, Osama bin Laden ended his earthly residence about the time Mars and Jupiter were completing the final phase of that merger.
Regardless of whether that’s true, the indication of astrology is that at that point, one cycle ended and another began. That’s because conjunctions in astrology are usually interpreted as the beginning of a new cycle for the objects involved. Because they also represent the merging of the signature energies, today’s aspect is likely to be more personal but just as auspicious. With Mercury about to emerge from the echo phase of its Aries retrograde and enter new territory for the first time in two months this coming Wednesday, this would characterize a new pattern of thinking.
With Venus identified with attraction, and Eris with the post-modern evolution of identity, the sum total comprises a departure from previous patterns of preference. What was once your type may not appeal to you so much anymore. What you once overlooked may now merit another examination. You just might end up rooting for a different team.
But don’t jump to conclusions right away. It’s not a new cycle yet. We started off by referring to today’s conjunction as unusual and indeed it is. That’s because Mercury is not up to its usual apparent speed after having stationed direct a couple weeks ago. As a result, it is Venus that appears to be moving faster for the time being. Venus catches up with and passes Mercury today, not the other way around. Finally, it will be Venus that conjoins with Jupiter first on Wednesday (when there is so much else going on) and at the end of the week enters Taurus first.
The discrepancy cannot continue forever, however. Soon Mercury will once again be the fleetest and that means it will catch up. It means another conjunction very soon in the context of a different sign. When that happens, the personal planet aspects of this day and this week will have developed and matured to a deeper and fuller interpretation.
So for the time being, note corresponding events in your personal life rather than act on them. Don’t place your bets just yet. We are betwixt and between, the balls are still in the air, and the information is still coming in.

Your household sounds like mine can be some times. I lived in that energy right after the presidential conventions in 2008. My then, two year old grand daughter almost knocked her mother backwards down a flight of concrete stairs. Just because she could. Her basic complaint at the time? “I hate this job” She just had to work to hard too be human. LOL

Thank you! And it was this morning I finally began a two-panel painting I have long only envisioned; my plan includes glyphs and this morning Jupiter was my first. Now I will add Mercury Venus and Mars – you have given me decision on “who” is to be represented.

Late for the party again. Been really under the weather Len, and my sympathies to aword and mystes as we battle through the forces that would take us down for the count. I was able to read your report yesterday, but without much positive to add, nor the strength to “log in”, I couldn’t even comment on Jere’s extraordinary multi-conjunction to his midheaven. Waiting with anticipation to hear about that!
However, today I’ve just read an article by Gary Caton regarding the ancient astrological technique of viewing the sky for understanding, often commented on by you Len. An aspect he wrote about, which would apply to the Mercury-Venus conjunction exact on Monday, was called DORYPHORY by Ptolemy. It is a planet rising 15 or more degrees before the Sun, and therefore visible because it is no longer within the Sun’s “beams”. This meant “an appearance that speaks’ or a sudden dramatic showing of something.” Gary gives some fascinating examples of this ancient divining technique which I hope you will read yourself (link below), including John Lennon and the ending of the Beatles, the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and other well publicized events.
Gary says the fundamental purpose of morning sky planets is “to individuate and make distinctions. Morning sky planets mark the birth of a new presence in the Sky and, therefore, the beginning of something new on Earth. As above, so below.” As the four planets, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all doryphory at this time he believes we can encourage these planets to “take up a mission on our behalf” by recognizing them. “Sing a sacred song, dance a sacred dance, or light a sacred flame” honoring them and “let the Universe know that you know what is going on and are an active co-creator in the celestial drama.”
Since Gary doesn’t even mention Eris, who knows what will come of Wednesday’s remarkable aspects. As it is also one more “11” portal, the closing of an era and the opening of another doesn’t seem so far-fetched to me.

The Possibility For Man To Gain Experience At Two Levels Of Being.
Keynote: The revelation of new potentialities.
In some unspecified way the symbol is a guarantee that man can operate successfully at two levels of consciousness, if he has previously met the condition mentioned in the preceding symbol. “Be open. Be able and willing to shape your translucent mind in the form revealing spiritual fulfillment. And you will be able to experience life and power on inner as well as outer planes.” The implied message is one of faith. Man can only truly experience what he deeply believes he can experience.
This is the last stage of this fifth five-fold sequence of cyclic phases. It announces the possibility of a new step in evolution, but it is still only a possibility, a promise. The individual is truly ON PROBATION.

Len, I’ve got a question for you. This wednesday sees Merc., Venus, and Jup. all exactly conjunct my natal chiron (on the degree), which is dead top center of my natal chart (on the degree). Any thoughts/ideas regarding what I might meditate on to help reveal this aspect as it relates to me personally? (..even just a non-personal perception on the alignment would be cool..)

Did you notice that Venus and Mercury will travel within a degree of one another for another 2 weeks? Wow..and my 7th house Mars is at 4 Taurus so that’s quite a planetary stampede over my Mars. I’d say it’s about time to end the sexual dry spell I’ve had since shortly after 9/11/01.

I had not noticed until this year the Pattern of Baltaine season that hits my son’n’me every year….
and what I finally noticed is that my son’s sun is conjunct my NN/Jupiter/Neptune conjounction (Scorpio) and all that is exactly conjunct his (evil) father’s sun – which was and is continuing to be “hit” by, um, everything in the sky? And said father’s sun is on my Pallas/Hades/MC conjunction…..there’s more of course, there’s always more……

aWord… dear goddess, my condolences. I just spent 3 hours at his school, will be going back in an hour or so. The fury boiling off of this child actually numbed the side of my face and shoulder as he was delivering his Mother’s Day ‘gift.’
But ya’ll remember “East of the Son/West of the Mom,” right? The story of the day my hair caught on fire? Like that, but about an order of magnitude more.
My sense is that Tantra for Teens is now seriously overdue, and this is the signal bell. Uh, make that ‘gong.’

Will do, Friend. My kiddo has been blowing up his classes this semester, and I went to his school last week and called time on it. I’m spending the rest of today finding out whether he can pass this year. If his teachers say they’ll pass him (and honestly, if they do, it’s a mercy killing of his sophomore year) then I’ll stay my hand. If not, other mechanisms are poised to kick in.
Mother’s Day was a minefield. I’m lucky to have most (not all) of my limbs.

All those Aries planets are currently clustering around my Moon at 24 degrees Aries on my I/C, no wonder I am behaving like Artemis ready to go into battle.
Feels like I have accessed some ancient anger which has been trapped in time and now has the appropriate force to come out in true Aries style !
This has manifested through fighting for justice big time, my Sun at 26 degrees Libra.
On a wider scale, I am sure this Aries energy will help to cleanse our planet on many levels, through the fabulous element of fire.
