Dear Friend and Reader:
Its been awhile since I’ve used that beginning in my articles. Recently though, in a conversation with Eric about writing, we came to the agreement that a good blog is really a letter from the heart, which often begins with “Dear.” I liken this one today as a letter to home.
When you look at the planetary snapshot of present time — Jupiter and Saturn in opposition, Uranus and Pluto leaning into their historic 90-degree meeting — what do we see? To me, this looks like the balance between exuberance in the new and unexpected and the limitation and constraints of our reaction — or relationship to that new experience. The Aquarius Moon, as Len points out, reminds us that right now these feelings of duality are shared on a community scale.
Maybe right now you are feeling a little lost at the moment, like a taxi you’ve been riding has left you at the curb of an unknown neighborhood — maybe the landmarks are different, the people have changed. The lack of familiarity — the exit from routine — leaves us at a loss as to who and where we are. Add to that a vague sense of threat from something unknown but powerful and one cannot help but feel helpless, far from home. But what is home? Who is there?
The current nature of the times we live in is that change is coming in waves in our personal and global experience. Sometimes days like these can scare me shitless too, because I don’t know how to react. There is no gauge from previous historical reference to begin naming the new experience. If you have no words to describe how you feel at the moment because the situation and the feelings and reactions it invokes are unfamiliar, how could you verbalize or share what you’re experiencing with others? How can you get some comfort that you are not alone?

Today and tomorrow, the waning Aquarius Moon is bending to its mission, working to very much the same ends as it was while in Sagittarius last Thursday and Friday. Its mission is one of mediation and moderation between the polarity of Jupiter opposing Saturn, extending to the Aries New Moon at the end of the week. The astrology will be symbolic and, ultimately instructive.
Last week, the Sagittarius Moon’s connection to the Jupiter-Saturn opposition was a relationship between the fire and air elements that distinguish the signs these planets are in. Luna in the fire sign Sagittarius shared that same element with Jupiter in Aries, also known as a trine. The Moon was sextile to Saturn in Libra, which is a supportive relationship between two complementary elements.
Today and tomorrow the same modality transitions to an alternative expression. The flow has shifted. There is now an air sign trine between Saturn and the Moon. Lunar reinforcement is now applied to Saturn’s predilection towards limits and definition. This does not suffocate the flame of creativity. Air supports fire. The Moon’s relationship to Jupiter however, economizes the fire and encourages its direction.
Today’s Jupiter-Saturn opposition does not stand alone, it is part of something bigger, just like any one of us are. It will grow as any one of us grows to exist in relationship as the Moon gradually moves to conjoin with the Sun in Aries this coming Sunday. By then polarity will cease to be about two planets and grow to include other objects. It will no longer be about the relationship of sign elements, it will also include the paradox of their associated qualities. More to the point, the lunar perspective from Aquarius is more about how each one of us interfaces with a collective than how we individually experience our own passion. The prefix “com” is in play, as in communicate, commute, community and compassion.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Taurus weekly of Aug. 8, 2003
It’s amazing how little we really need to be happy when being happy is what we really need. There is nothing superficial about it, no need to hide one’s head in the sand, only to ease into the inevitable flow of life and the reality that this moment is actually real. This is, actually, a very good place from which to set priorities and objectives for the future. This is true in part because right now you can feel how delicate of a process that is: of combining your growth needs with your material and emotional needs with your creative visioning process. The blessing is that now, you can take them all into consideration at once.

Spillway at the Ashokan Reservoir. The Ashoan is the oldest in a series of major reservoirs that provide drinking water for New York City. It's close to Woodstock, about a 15 minute drive from my studio (to the west). This was the first time I'd ever seen the spillway functioning as such. Photo by Eric Francis.

After victory, there is a call to order and a reminder of where you stand in the greater scheme of things. It might help to keep this in mind when the potential for conflict — with yourself as much as others — arises.
The cards are set on pointing something out to us right now. Three weeks ago, we had the Six of Wands in the central position; two weeks ago, we had the Seven of Wands and The Empress in positions two and three respectively; and last week, the Six of Wands was drawn in the third position.

6 of Wands, The Empress, 7 of Wands from the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot deck. Click on the image for a larger version.
First, let’s focus briefly on the idea of Wands generally. Something is in the process of being shaped here — forged in the creative fires. It wants to be brought forward. Wands are manifestation, visually expressed. This energy is mercurial at times. Unlike Pentacles, which, as representatives of the physical world, are solid in nature and slower to move and evolve, Wands — prefiguring even thought — are light and agile. Like the element fire that they represent, they are dynamic and constantly moving, but not so easily containable. They are mutable. To work effectively and efficiently with Wands energy requires care, attention and discipline.
If we work on the theory (and it is only a theory, one of many) that the readings over the weeks are interlinked to the point where they are telling a story to us about ourselves, then it feels like we are revisiting and refining — perhaps redefining — a process of working with our own creative natures.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo monthly of Feb. 19, 2008

When a vulnerability is exposed, we generally have two choices: panic, or act. Looked at this way, any time you notice a weakness or flaw, you can respond in a constructive way and turn it into an opportunity. The way your life is developing, I suggest you take a slow, disciplined approach to dealing with a problem you recently noticed. Review all your thought patterns associated with it, and take a structured approach to resolving the matter. The beneficial effects will go far beyond what you are anticipating. Other issues that in the past seemed too trivial to address, or to difficult to cope with, will be easy to take care of. Remember that part of any repair process is getting enough rest. This may not be easy with the bursts of activity that are developing in your friendships, partnerships and other aspects of your relationship life. Make sure you know your first priority is taking care of yourself. Do what you need to do, and you will have plenty of time and energy for anything else.
