Our weekly audio is back after I took a one week break — thanks for that. Today’s podcast covers how the cardinal cross has dissolved into something new: many moves by Venus, Mars and Vesta in the relationship-oriented signs Libra and Scorpio. We go from the sense of large, sweeping changes in society to deeply personal influences, but which are no less meaningful as the ripple through our emotions, into our households, circles of friends and the wider community.
I look at the chart of Ken Mehlman, the former chair of the Republican National Committee, who presided over the 2006 elections — Ken came out of the closet as gay last week, despite his long track record of making life extremely difficult for lesbian and gay people. We have an example of how the personal is indeed political, and a great example of what not to be.
I also take up last night’s episode on the Rachel Maddow program where her mic goes out in the middle of a tirade on how the Cheney-Bush administration lied us in to the Iraq war. I look at the chart for the Rachel Maddow Show, which is approaching its second anniversary, and also the ways in which the current Mercury retrograde aspected the natal Saturn of the program’s chart, giving the feeling that Big Brother was watching. Clearly, he is, though I don’t think that her mic going out was anything more than a technical glitch. But it definitely spooked her — a truly human moment along the razor’s edge of telling the truth with love. That’s Rachel.

Good to have you back! I’ve been down with the flu myself so it’s also good to be back on PW. How totally hilarious (?) is that thing about Ken Mehlman. Have you seen the West Wing episode which raises exactly that issue? I think that was a Republican Congressman who was gay and voting against gay marriage. We have our own politician here in the Labor Party, the very brilliant and talented Penny Wong – Chinese-Australian, female and gay! And yes, the Labor Party (we reckon it’s the old Catholics in the Labor Party breathing their last breaths – quick boys!!) is also anti-gay marriage. Poor old Penny used to defend the stance – being the good party-girl and team player she is, but we (the younger and hipper :o)) breathed a collective sigh of relief when on an edition of the tv programme Q and A taped during the election campaign, she finally spoke about her feelings when asked about it – that yes, it was a difficult situation for her but she was pleased to see the incremental changes in legislation regading gay couples (changes to property, children, benefits etc) had taken place under the Labor government.
Our fingers are crossed that the Labor Party (aka ALP – Australian Labor Party) will squeak home – we’ve got that hung parliament situation, and we can finally drag Australia out of the past into the present (we’ve still got heaps of people who think we shouldn’t have an unmarried PM even though the rate of marriage continues to decline and most couples are getting married anymore!)…so watch this space… :o)

A quick but sad resolution. The tortured soul who resorted to violent means to make his point is apparently dead. Thankfully, it seems that no one else has lost their life.
The Discovery Channel’s natal Neptune at 2 Capricorn 24 rx, is being conjoined by transiting Pluto at 2 Capricorn 49 rx. It has a natal Uranus (15+ Sag) opposition to natal Moon (18+ Gemini). When transiting Mercury went retro it was at 18+ Virgo and formed a t-square to these planets. I used June 17, 1985 for the chart, info from Wikipedia.

Yes. Disjointed info for which I apologize. Here’s what I’ve gleaned from coverage:
James Lee is being referred to now as an Invironmental Protester (Save the Planet) and feels Discovery Channel isn’t doing what it claims to do, ie. going green. He has several blogs and this is what he is emotionally concerned about. Stuff like overpopulation of the earth. . . .some of the stuff we talk about here.
Silver Spring is just north of Washington DC. Think it was MSNBC (or maybe both news channels) that are saying he walked into the building at 1 PM with metal cannisters attached to him and waving a handgun.
No doubt Uranus (last degree of Pisces) and Jupiter (1st degree of Aries) are bringing it to the attention of (at least) U.S. citizens, in their configuration with Pluto and Saturn, but that Neptune, Chiron conjunction (the guy is in pain for cryin’ out loud) and the Galactic Center just feels like a clarion call to give some conscious thought to the planet’s problems and to have it delivered to us through the media, and his beef is how the media lies to us…… well, seems like a yod to me. Then there’s U.S. Pluto at the activation point, police keeping secrets, negotiating, and then the whole tawdry 2nd house values that need to be focused on.
by the way, the U.S. true node (north) has progressed to 26+ Cancer, if that makes it close enuf to consider a backup to U.S. natal Mercury.

Thank you for being on the situation and for your mastery of the yod once again. Seems as though you also know the Sibley chart like the back of your hand. You never cease to trach and amaze me. Please clarify one thing for me – the Sibley Mercury that Chiron and the GC are quincunx to, is that the same as the “U.S. Mercury (24 Cancer)”?
re: the hostage situation at Discovery Channel HQ in Silver Springs, MD, happening now, I’ve not heard when it “started”, but one woman being interviewed said she was on her way to lunch (11AM – 1 PM?) when she was told she couldn’t go through the lobby b/c of the asian man with explosives on him was there holding hostages. That would have put the Moon in Gemini square the Virgo Sun. All others in the building have been evaquated.
However, it is a curious thing that Chiron is at 27+ Aquarius and sextile the GC at 27+ Sagittarius and they both quincunx the U.S. Sibly Mercury in the 9th house (CNN reports, Discovery Channel) which would make it the Fulcrum planet in a yod with the sextiling planets. Across from U.S. Mercury would be an “activation point” of a yod, which is where the U.S. Pluto is at 27+ Capricorn. For what it’s worth transiting Vulcanus, a Uranian point, is at 26+ Cancer in addition to U.S. Mercury (24+ Cancer) as the Fulcrum point.
The unconfirmed name being assigned to the asian man is James Lee. Police are negotiating with him and have been for over an hour. The Full Moon was in Pisces.

I happen to have that chart on file…when I did the piece about Maddow I looked at the chart for the first broadcast, which made significant aspects to her natal chart. It’s the kind of setup that made me want to dive deeper into astrology with each chart I discovered…
The current Mercury retrograde aspecting the natal Saturn of the program’s chart? Good catch. Master stroke.
