Aboslutely amazing – a cervix portrait series

This was sent to me by Amanda — it’s a website devoted to daily portraits of the author’s cervix (and other related stuff). It’s not her, she just sent me the website.  This link takes you to a series of photos, taken using a speculum and macro setting on an ordinary digital camera, which show her cervix through her entire cycle. I thought I knew a little about pussies — but I had no idea how dramatically they change from day to day and week to week. The writer also gives her body temperature and short descriptions of her emotional and overall physical state for each day.

  1. Oh, I love this! Gorgeous. Thank you, Eric, for posting it. I’ll share the site with my naturopathic med students (some of whom are in training to become midwives too)

  2. Annie is a showman. I always thought of it as a kind of warped comedy act, and an act of civil disobedience. You have to admit it’s funny.

For those not familiar with Annie Sprinkle, she does these performances where she basically sets up and puts her interior on public display; people walk past and peer into the speculum oracle.

  3. Interesting. I’ve practiced fertility awareness on and off for years but never thought to look up photos depicting what I was feeling.

  4. Is this the Public Cervix Announcement (nee Annie Sprinkle’s road show)? I purposely avoided her theatrical performance of same in the 1990s. Love Annie, but there’s only so much interiority that the outside eyeball (well, mine, anyway) can appreciate.

(The Inside Eye is another discussion.)
