Mars retrograde in Leo – notes

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

The first wave of data that I got involved the Leo-Aquarius axis being activated by the ruler of Aries.

I believe that a theme is about holding one’s identity in the context of a group. Being able to focus introspective energy in the presence of others, of the input to conform, advertising, group influence of any kind; to which we generally buckle; tribal consciousness kicks in fast, even if it’s beehive level.

This retrograde is about maintaining self awareness in the midst of such influences. That of course has many implications.

There is something too about the Leo-Scorpio connection in the Thema Mundi. Scorpio is on the 5th house of that chart. Mars is burrowing deep beneath Leo to the genetic-erotic level. So it goes Aries > Leo > Scorpio vis a vis Aquarius on the other side of the dial. There is a mirror effect involved, between me and all of them.

As for the Rx – consciousness rings a bell – and I’m listening.

Calling all Cats

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Good afternoon Leos and Leo rising. We’ve heard from the first four signs with feedback about how their year has progressed. Much of the action has been taking place in your opposite sign Aquarius, which tells us something — I’m not sure what, really — about your life. Pluto has moved into Capricorn, your 6th solar house. I’m wondering what you think about these transits. Even if you don’t grasp the astrology, please chime in about the ecology of your life, your work and your relationships.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed — this information has been very helpful to my research for the 2010 annual edition of Planet Waves.

One thing we can reference is that I treat time differently. I am less likely to describe the astrology of “the weekend” and more likely to give a history going back 10 or 100 years or longer. I am taking a long view, particularly toward the past, which is one thing that barely exists today except on the history channel. I look less intently toward the far future, on the faith that we are creating it now. What I do is point out logical guideposts along the way – the aspects I describe – and co-create with the world a series of evolutionary improvements based on psychic architecture; that is, what is displayed in the astrology. Therefore, in the truest sense, I am a human potential writer.

What exactly aren’t you scared of?

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Hello!

Here is a sample of this week’s Planet Waves Astrology News. The full edition has a juicy lead article on Saturn and Pluto; an article on Saturn through the signs, linking back to key articles I’ve written as early as 1998; a new article by Judith Gayle, and a few excellent science briefs. And there’s the full Planet Waves horoscope.

Lately we’ve been explaining to larger media what I’m doing here at Planet Waves; and I will say that it involves recognizing how much fear we bring to our perception of world events, and what we can do about it. It’s no fun being paralyzed, but that’s what the news does to us. There is nothing spiritual about that, and nothing spiritual about turning off and dropping out. We know the times are changing fast, but what exactly does that mean for us as individuals?

Every week, I offer a fresh approach to that question. A sample follows, and here is how you can subscribe. Note, we will soon be introducing Cosmic Confidential, the 2010 annual edition of Planet Waves. Subscribers get a substantial discount, enough to pay for half of a basic subscription. If you sign up for Planet Waves Astrology News, you’ll get that discount.

Have the best weekend you can dream up.

Yours & truly,
Eric Francis

Astrology Today: The Oracle for Friday, Oct. 30, 2009

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Pisces weekly of June 28, 2007

The Oracle.

You can thank the gods that Pisces is a water sign: when pushed, pulled or struck, you tend to slip through the hands of those who would do so. People have finally figured out that it’s best to float along on you, seemingly moving on the surface, but really being carried by the whole current of your being. Water, too, often works its changes and experiences its progress gradually, usually beyond the ability of people to perceive, even yourself. It’s too soon after the end of one era and the beginning of a new one to size up what you’ve accomplished, what life has taught you, or to fully evaluate the status of your relationships. Hindsight will be your friend and teacher, but remember that the future is before you, awaiting your steps and your choices.

Dias de los Muertos

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Editor’s note: The following article, written by our beloved Jeanne Treadway, is from the Planet Waves archives, which hosts thousands of articles and horoscopes written by Eric Francis and the Planet Waves team. We love this article so much, we post it every year.

Catrinas, one of the most popular figures of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico

Catrinas, one of the most popular figures of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico.

La Catrina is the reigning queen of Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican fiesta honoring the dead. Finely dressed in an upper-class Victorian style, an oversized, feathered and flowered hat perched primly on her skull, elegant but skeletal, La Catrina was popularized by Jose Guadalupe Posada in his political lampoons of the corrupt regime of Porfirio DГaz.В Her role, then and now, is simple: She reminds us that rich or poor, famed or unknown, we all eventually become skeletons.

Dia de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and parts of the Southwest United States. Traditions vary but generally November 1, known in the Catholic world as All Saints Day, honors dead children and is frequently called Dia de los Angelitos (Day of the Little Angels).

All Souls Day, November 2, honors all ancestors. Some communities use October 28 to pay tribute to those who died a violent death, while October 29 can be a day to honor the unbaptized, and October 30 often serves as a day of remembering lonely souls.

All celebrations include building ornate altars, extended family gatherings, bountiful feasting, storytelling, and meticulous decoration of cemeteries.

HISTORY

Many cultures honor their dead with annual rituals and celebrations; often thousands of years old, these ceremonies frequently occur around the new year.

On their Lunar New Year, Asians explode tons of fireworks, burn costly shrines created to honor ancestors, and parade dragons noisily through streets. Memorial Day in the United States is a somber occasion and leans toward the militaristic; rituals include draping red, white, and blue bunting everywhere, planting flags, and intoning long lists of those who died in service to the armed forces. Celts build enormous bonfires on their new year’s eve, October 31, known as Samhain, and commune with their dead while the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest. Saturn in Libra

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Hello…Saturn is now in Libra. That was a very strange transition; and we shall now experience the approach to Saturn square Pluto with both planets in the signs where it will happen.

I am laying low today, getting the newest edition of Planet Waves Astrology News together for our subscribers. It’s one of those weeks where there is so much to write about I am not sure where to start. There is a deep personal dimension to the abundant political activity that I am working out the nature of; it is something about paralysis driven by a combination of fear and people becoming spectators; life being a spectator sport, as Bob Herbert pointed out in his New York Times piece earlier in the week.

Your thoughts welcome here.

Astrology Today: The Oracle for Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Sagittarius – Weekly of Oct. 11, 2002

The Oracle.

The somewhat complicated state of your life is largely driven by a variety of hidden emotions which are pushing you to the awareness that change is out of your control. That may be true, but the change you fear is not as important as the change that this is distracting you from, and besides, your fears are entirely baseless. What I don’t think you’ve fully taken account of is the extent to which you simply fail to value your role in the lives of the people closest to you, and to see yourself as a positive force for change on the planet. There are numerous old injuries associated with this lack of awareness, and you may be inclined to run from them. I don’t suggest that you do; what you’ll learn by sticking around is far too good to miss.
