Dear Friend and Reader:

Today is Aug. 11, the anniversary of the famous, infamous Aug. 11, 1999 grand cross and total solar eclipse, what I referred to at the time as Judgment Day.

Why bother remembering an eclipse from nine years ago? Well, it was the Eclipse of the Century, the one that rang out the 20th century and clanged in the 21st century and a few other bits.

For example, the shadow fell over Europe, and in half a wink of a kitty cat’s eyes, Europe was one country. I guess you have to live there for a while to appreciate it, but imagine that there was a border and passport check at the George Washington Bridge for the past thousand or so years, so you could be cleared to get into New Jersey.

Then it was gone, like it was never there, and all the border patrol areas were left to decompose with their flagpoles sorry and bare. I think we need to import this idea to the canadian border.

Then in the wake of the impeachment, Baby Bush came along. Then there was another unusually enormous eclipse (June 21, 2001). Then Sept. 11, 2001 arrived, and so on. We need to honor these former minefields like we honor the shipwreck of the Arizona, and let them teach us respect for eclipses.

We are currently in a window between two eclipses. The Moon is in Sagittarius and the next eclipse is in Aquarius – that means it’s in about six days. It’s an eclipse of the Moon and it takes place on the 16th. It is the partner eclipse of the Aug. 1 total solar eclipse.

Eclipses mean phases of pattern forming in our lives; and the days of eclipses are specifically designed for such. We often know as Paul Simon once said that our lives are made of patterns – this is the time to shape them.

Genevieve Salerno has prepared this week’s aspects, from calculations by Tracy Delaney at Serennu.com. I’ve added some additional commentary, which is co-mingled in with Gen’s.

11 Monday: Pallas in Gemini square the trans-Neptunian object Teharonhiawako in Pisces. Mercury in Virgo opposite Teharonhiawako. This is a T-square involving this oddly-named new thing.

Here is some background. Teharonhiawako is the legendary founder of the Iroquois Nation. He was the great-grandchild of Great Spirit, and made his life as a farmer. He was much loved by all the people. He had a twin brother, Sawiskera, who was a hunter. It is told that Sawiskera was jealous and cruel. He was eventually conquered by his brother.

Teharoniawako was discovered in Aquarius, and is one half of a binary TNO. The second is named for his brother.

12 Tuesday: Moon enters Capricorn 7:42 am EDT. It gets into grand trine position – there’s plenty going on the Earth signs (Vesta, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter, to name a few).

13 Wednesday: Venus conjoins Saturn in Virgo, which is often a demarcation point in relationships. Mercury squares Pholus. Taurus Vesta squares Nessus in Aquarius. This is a perfect setup for thinking things are worse in your relationship than they really are. It would be a great idea to wait one day before having that “important conversation” or thinking your love life is a done deal. It’s probably not, but it’s never too early to screw things up.

14 Thursday: Moon enters Aquarius 6:56 pm EDT. Sun trines Eris (Eris is a planet, not driveway gravel, show a little respect). Pluto trines Eros (Eros is driveway gravel, but it has a near-Earth orbit and could whack us in some future epoch, so show a little respect). Mars squares Galactic Center. An idea is the first form desire takes on its way to being fulfilled. Desire is the impetus for all motion on this planet, and possibly others; we are planning an expedition to find out for sure. The only time we make true mistakes is when we compromise our real values for the sake of the people around us. It’s possible to forsake an idea to save ourselves from seemingly betraying others, and then end up betraying ourselves. When this happens, its crucial that we find the energy to forgive the negativity others may give us, and to forgive ourselves for making the mistake of thinking we need the high opinions of others to survive.

15 Friday: Sun opposite Neptune can easily be mistaken on an energetic level as the Full Moon in the way it feels. Very mystical energy, and just in time for Happy Hour. Mercury conjoins Saturn, which feels more like a discussion about the trade deficit at the Friday night get-together. This will be quite an interesting two days. Without the rigid walls to hold us in, we would allegedly have no shape. Think of a jar of water. Apply this to our lives and what you get is a good way to look at limitations. Saturn is the form, the bones, the outer boundaries of the jar. During the next two days (and actually for several prior ones), there will be such an up-rush of dream energy in your life that it might be painful. The pain will be like growing pains though, giving you little clues about where to tighten up, or where to loosen. It will be a time to realize and assess the walls and forms you have constructed around yourself. Have you made an aqueduct, or a dam? Mercury constantly demands that we reassess ourselves, and keep clear our intentions. Living a life of purpose is the antidote for a life of crushing limitations.

Assess yourself. Are you working a job you love with a passion; can you locate this passion? Are you in relationships that serve as a support system in the constant drive of liberation, or are your obligations holding you back? In this emotional time, it may be wise to take a step back and watch yourself react to the world around you. Think of how tomorrow will be different.

16 Saturday: LUNAR ECLIPSE. 5:16 pm EDT (24 Aquarius 21). Then the Moon occults Neptune 2:24 pm EDT, a monthly event this year. Note, however, that this is the second time in a row that there has been an occultation, which is a kind of an eclipse, immediately following an eclipse. Venus in Virgo trines Jupiter in Capricorn, making everything nice. Mars squares Pluto, which is pretty rough and tumble. Moon sextiles Pluto. Eros enters Virgo. Sun trines 1992 QB1. Remember that we are like jars of saltwater.

17 Sunday: Moon enters Pisces 3:46 am EDT. Venus trine Jupiter and square Juno. Mercury square Ixion.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Capricorn monthly of Oct. 23, 2006

(The Oracle is a random daily selection from among 10,000 horoscopes written by Eric Francis)

What is true and what is not? Sometimes the more we’re able to expand our awareness, the more we can embrace possibilities that seem to contradict themselves or one another. Everything at the moment is calling on you to stretch — most particularly, your own desire to do so. I hope this year has shown you not only that you live in a world that’s too small for you. But I trust you’ve noticed that the larger world, where the possibilities are far more diverse and the expectations on you are less boring, is an experience you really want. Certain friends may be pushing you to take a wider view of life, and someone who seems bent on causing you mischief may, at least, reveal the wisdom in hanging a bit looser where your ideas about reality are concerned. With so many planets heading for Sagittarius, your life is about to become the story of something bigger than your dreams.
