Mercury Retrograde and Cancer of the Mind

New edition of Planet Waves will be on its way shortly.

In this edition of Planet Waves, Eric Francis calls the Tea Party movement out for being a disease process within the American psyche. Its conduct bears a direct resemblance to the homeopathic descriptions of cancer — obsession with rigid behavior and thinking, drive for control, and a lack of center. This edition covers the forthcoming Mercury retrograde, as well as Mars joining the cardinal cross on Aug. 3 and making aspects to nearly every slow-moving planet.

  1. Genevieve,

I wanted to thank you for your remarks on Ceres in which you credit Phil Sedgwick, particularly where he says “Ceres gives voice to those who don’t have it”. Maya delMar, a now-deceased astrologer once said something similar about Juno in that she represented the disenfranchised.

I’m working on a story about two sisters, based on the New Moon chart today that has Juno opposite Ceres. Much of it centers on their mutual squares to Hades at 0+ Cancer, so my theme is that there is a problem in the family they don’t want to face or deal with. Other family members involved include Mercury (who has the same father as the girls) at 0+ Virgo, opposite Neptune (brother to the two sisters) at 0+ Pisces. I was trying to find a “common ground” point between Juno and Ceres and now you and Mr. Sedgwck have supplied it!

I suppose I should list you both in the credits! Thanks again.

  2. Dear Eric

I think you need to be very careful when you write such sweeping
statements about cancer. There may be SOME truth in what you write
but this may not apply to everyone who gets cancer. My friend’s
granddaughter recently died from a brain tumour aged two. She was
diagnosed at just ten weeks old – are you telling me she had “a
psyche gripped by intractable ideas” at that young age?

    Regards

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel

    Thanks.

I could have put in a stronger disclaimer that I was talking about a the psychic state described by homeopathy and not conventional medicine; there is some relationship, and it’s not necessarily direct (though it can be). It might be applied to an entirely different medical condition (or none at all) involving the same psychic condition as the one I’m describing.

Mainly I was describing a state of mind and a cultural mentality of intractability and instability that homeopaths associate with the cancer miasm. This influences everything from our politics and social behaviorto our food production methods.

I will think about how to clarify that.

The direct response is, we all struggle with the miasms of our whole society and our family, not just the individual ones we have. We live in a carcinogenic society that produces cancer in nearly half of all people and that 1. poisons kids routinely, based on its philosophy of life/lifestyle and that 2. influences all people energetically, based on its whole past.

This is territory not embarked on by conventional medicine, which deals only in dose-response relationships.

I will definitely edit in a clarification, and post one to the same places that received the article as well.

    Much appreciated.

    ef

  3. Interesting post, Eric.

In my day-job I talk to financial people and I had a woman on the phone today who works for a hedge fund. She helps them figure out how to invest their money.

I asked her if investment companies like hers are making contingency plans in case the debt ceiling is not raised, and she said No, not really. Companies will draw up some vague statement so they can say they were prepared for anything that might happen, but in reality, nobody thinks the govt will default, so none of the big investment firms are making any serious plans for what to do if it happens.

It seems to me this would tend to make the consequences of default worse than they might otherwise be. I am not sure what the investment alternatives might be — but some clever investor could come up with ways to try to lessen his losses.

But this woman said they are not doing that. And she works for one of big hedge funds — not a small-time joint at all.

This really stuck with me. I think it says a lot. Here we have our top financial people refusing to plant their feet on the ground and deal with reality, because they are sure they are being lied to. They are so accustomed to being lied to that they can no longer react to the underlying truth of the situation.

    It’s pretty amazing.

  4. Fascinating Friday edition Eric!

Looking at the chart you cast for Mercury Retrograde I found it interesting that Jupiter is on the Asc in Taurus and Eris and Uranus are in the 12th House with Ceres on the Aries point.

Does Jupiter in the Asc in Taurus factor into this “debt ceiling crisis” that’s a crisis only because the tea party and republicans can’t be responsible adults?

I found it interesting that last night on Rachel Maddow it was brought up that usually raising the debt ceiling is never talked about because it’s a given that you always raise it. You pay your debts and that before when one rep decide vote against it it was done more for show because they always made sure that there were enough votes to pass it. I believe it was Laurence MacDonald who mentioned this. And they also on a different clip talked about how two tea parties mentioned that they would never budge unless god told them to. Scary.

With Eris and Uranus in the 12th does that bring a lot of subconscious or psychic chaos and unpredictability to the equation in? Which is scary to think about when we need people, especially those in office, to be level headed and smart.

Also, found it interesting that Ceres is hanging out on the Aries point. In a lecture I attended of Philip Sedgwick’s he mentioned a few interesting points on Ceres:

    – Ceres has ability to disregard own well being in pursuit of justice. We could apply this to the Republicans who are disregarding the country’s well being for their own form of justice.

    – Ceres carries a lot of weight. Ceres wants to be heard as a voice of reckoning and voice of authority.

    – Ceres also gives voice to those who don’t have it.

With her on the Aries point, could she be charging it up even further? Going with what Philip Sedgwick said in the lecture on Ceres seems like she’s trying to call us to grab our own power, or at least realize it. That we could really shift things if we could just see the weight we do have to move things, our power of authority en mass. And the fact that our voices and interests as a country are not being protected by at least a lot of people in power. I’m worried though that she could be hanging out there on the Aries point and screaming to a deaf world. Almost seems like the myth re-enacted – Ceres v. Pluto. Ceres as the mass populace and Pluto as the republican establishment.

  5. Thanks for the kind words, Amanda and Pam. Unfortunately, my sister has put her faith totally in the hands of western medicine. She’s been too afraid to do otherwise. She hasn’t been open to any alternative thinking. . . this is part of her pattern of rigid thinking, etc. that I alluded to. She had ovarian cancer, then stuff showed up in her liver, and now her brain. There will be an ultimate healing – but, it might not be in this earth plane.

  6. phall take a look at you can heal your life by Louise Hay – it is simple like the astrology blog this morning, and (I think) enough of a cheerful step to get anyone going. No one needs to die from cancer. A friend of ours was given 3 weeks to live so all his friends flew out to say goodbye and he ‘decided’ not to die then, and lived another 25 years (dying at 92+). You might have to want to live and get support that seems good to you and read up about it, change a few things, let go of your resentment and stuff (healing with whole foods is sold on Amazon these days), and banish your fear and not let anyone else tell you your only option is to die.

    love pam

  7. phall – best wishes to your sister. i hope she comes through with flying colors & can move to another level of healing afterwards.

  8. Although slightly off topic, Eric . . .

My younger sister is having surgery this morning in an attempt to remove the malignant tumors in her brain. Pluto is opposite her Ascendent and conjuncting her natal Venus.

Very sad situation. . .but, your comments about rigid thinking, etc. speaks volumes.
