Is Vladimir Putin going mad? Is he on steroids? Or is he just feeling the influence of Mars retrograde in Libra?

In today’s program, I look at the situation developing between Russia and Ukraine. We’ve been researching this copiously, and have a source near Kiev and someone who personally knew Viadimir Putin. While I’m explaining this chart, I answer several reader questions about the relationship of houses and signs and how that works in a chart. For the charts and additional resources and the chart, please see the full post.

Also in this week’s edition of Dan and Eric’s Music Appreciation Hour, we groove on The Grateful Dead. As is necessary, we leave a lot out of the story, but the program is structured around the four major eras in the band’s history, defined by the long-term keyboard players — Pigpen, Keith, Brent and Vince. We play some off-the-trodden-path music and hang loose.

  1. Alexander, do you suppose it is partly due to Borasisi in Pisces having squared Chaos in Gemini for the last several months and have either been conjunct (Chaos) or square (Borasisi) the degree where Venus (values) occulted Sun (consciousness) in 2012 that this now manifests so clearly? “the culture of celebrity in politics”?

  2. Eric, your final link there from the kyiv post is particularly illuminating. The way it builds its argument is incredibly revealing upon closer inspection. Many points of interest but we see for example the culture of celebrity in politics – just as in the States with Reagan, Schwarzenegger and Eastwood. Only here it is national ‘hero’ boxer Vitaliy Klitschko the boxer. Of course, he has become both a model and now mouthpiece, for western values. The nationals look at him and see western ‘wealth’ – but of course, this is a distortion, in terms of the working man. This vision of opulence, this passion, is fake.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the new client puppet, is a millionaire former banker. Part of Tymoshenko’s party which was implicated in mass embezzlement, this guy is the most banker friendly person you could imagine.

Just for the record, none of this huge debt is real, just as money is not. Its fiction is a banking construction used to drain real resources like property, land, oil, water, gas etc. In other words, many things craved by conglomerates that are of economic interest to them.

Because money is unreal in essence and the western governments are owned, we see that moves by nation states are not necessarily in that country’s interest but only the merchants who use it as a vehicle. Usually, state psychopaths will follow the self-interests of the larger elite group, but once this means a certain loss of nation state advantages (as per Germany’s view of sanctions against Russia, when significant trade depends on the bi-lateral facts) we see the capacity of these states to in-fight.

Of course, the U.S. based cabal want their Euro-proxy puppets to squeeze Russia but it is not as simple as that. This is where self-interest as a mechanism of control breaks down, on a macro level.

The picture is clear of a long term war of attrition. The elites are manipulating nation states to hoover up more resources. It is a policy they commit to because it works. But Asia will resist. It won’t be quite so simple as Venezuela as the bridgehead into South America. Kiev is the aperitif.. South America is the initial prize, with Crimea the decoy.

  3. Nikita Khrushchev’s granddaughter Nina Khrushcheva (On Chris Hayes’ MSNBC show tonight) said Putin only wants Crimea and implied that he couldn’t afford all of Ukraine. She thought Kerry should be negotiating those terms right now. Seems reasonable enough.

  4. Ukrainians Breathe Sigh of Relief As Diplomatic Efforts Continue Between West & Russia
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbdMw-aw7zk

Professor Nicolai Petro lays out how the Crimea crisis could be resolved, as tension remains between pro-EU groups and Russian supported factions. Petro has published widely on Russian and international politics, and is currently in Ukraine on a Fulbright research fellowship.

  5. Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s former prime minister recently released by the heroes of the Maidan, calls for a quick signing of a political and economic treaty with the European Union. and urges the West to ramp up pressure on Russia to force it to withdraw troops from Crimea. Of course, it’s all part of the Evil Empire’s brilliant, stupid, diabolically clever, crazy plan. Yes, Putin is mad, clearly.

  6. The Momentum for “Regime Change”: Snipers Are Commonly Used as “False Flag” Terrorists
By Washington’s Blog (March 06, 2014 – see original article for numerous links)
    http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2014/03/snipers-commonly-used-false-flag-terrorists.html

A Common Tactic to Discredit Opponents Or to Create Momentum for “Regime Change”

The powers-that-be often use agent provocateurs to disrupt protests and paint protesters as violent and unlikeable.

For example, violent provocateurs were deployed:

At the North American leader’s summit in Quebec (and see this)

At the G20 protests in London

In the Palestinian village of Bil’in

    In Cairo

    At the Occupy protests

    In Burma

    And in many other places

There is a related type of false flag operation commonly used to create chaos and discredit regimes or protesters: snipers.

    For example:

Unknown snipers reportedly killed both Venezuelan government and opposition protesters in the attempted 2002 coup

Unknown snipers fired during Thailand’s 2010 protests

Unknown snipers allegedly have created bedlam in Syria

And the Estonian foreign minister claims that the new Ukranian coalition deployed snipers to discredit the former government of Ukraine

Brutal … but effective and cheap.

Because it doesn’t cost much to hire one or a handful of snipers to access rooftops or bridge overpasses, create chaos, and then quietly disappear.

  7. Dialog with source om Ukraine situation…

    Me:

so…what do you make of the “the U.S. spent $5B to stoke up the protests and hired neo-Nazis to take over the Ukrainian government in a classic CIA putsch” theory?

    Source:

    Huurumph!!

Am following up with certain Ukrainian “Oligarchs” a story that they were told by the Kremlin that they should foregather in London (where many have homes) but not to come to Moscow as the “optics” would not be favorable. I believe that the Kremlin stoked up the protests in Kiev to provide the necessary back story for a putsch by anti Russian forces. (Remember the “terrorist” attacks in Moscow some years ago were Kremlin organized). The speed with which the Ukrainian Parliament voted to release Yulia Tymoshenko only makes sense when one remembers that she is considered” acceptable” leadership by Putin — which is also why her release applauded by the Germans. Suspect that Putin may push her forward as being a necessary part of an overall settlement.

  8. Paul Craig Roberts ~ Propaganda Rules The News

    PaulCraigRoberts March 5 2014

Gerald Celente calls the Western media “presstitutes,” an ingenuous term that I often use. Presstitutes sell themselves to Washington for access and government sources and to keep their jobs. Ever since the corrupt Clinton regime permitted the concentration of the US media, there has been no journalistic independence in the United States except for some Internet sites.

Glenn Greenwald points out the independence that RT, a Russian media organization, permits Abby Martin who denounced Russia’s alleged invasion of Ukraine, compared to the fates of Phil Donahue (MSNBC) and Peter Arnett (NBC), both of whom were fired for expressing opposition to the Bush regime’s illegal attack on Iraq. The fact that Donahue had NBC’s highest rated program did not give him journalistic independence. Anyone who speaks the truth in the American print or TV media or on NPR is immediately fired.

Russia’s RT seems actually to believe and observe the values that Americans profess but do not honor.

I agree with Greenwald. You can read his article here: Greenwald is entirely admirable. He has intelligence, integrity, and courage. He is one of the brave to whom my just published book, How America Was Lost, is dedicated. As for RT’s Abby Martin, I admire her and have been a guest on her program a number of times.

My criticism of Greenwald and Martin has nothing to do with their integrity or their character. I doubt the claims that Abby Martin grandstanded on “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine” in order to boost her chances of moving into the more lucrative “mainstream media.” My point is quite different. Even Abby Martin and Greenwald, both of whom bring us much light, cannot fully escape Western propaganda.

For example, Martin’s denunciation of Russia for “invading” Ukraine is based on Western propaganda that Russia sent 16,000 troops to occupy Crimea. The fact of the matter is that those 16,000 Russian troops have been in Crimea since the 1990s. Under the Russian-Ukrainian agreement, Russia has the right to base 25,000 troops in Crimea.

Apparently, neither Abby Martin nor Glenn Greenwald, two intelligent and aware people, knew this fact. Washington’s propaganda is so pervasive that two of our best reporters were victimized by it.

As I have written several times in my columns, Washington organized the coup in Ukraine in order to promote its world hegemony by capturing Ukraine for NATO and putting US missile bases on Russia’s border in order to degrade Russia’s nuclear deterrent and force Russia to accept Washington’s hegemony.

Russia has done nothing but respond in a very low-key way to a major strategic threat orchestrated by Washington.

It is not only Martin and Greenwald who have fallen under Washington’s propaganda. They are joined by Patrick J. Buchanan. Pat’s column calling on readers to “resist the war party on Crimea” opens with Washington’s propagandistic claim: “With Vladimir Putin’s dispatch of Russian Troops into Crimea.”http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article37847.htm
No such dispatch has occurred. Putin has been granted authority by the Russian Duma to send troops to Ukraine, but Putin has stated publicly that sending troops would be a last resort to protect Crimean Russians from invasions by the ultra-nationalist neo-nazis who stole Washington’s coup and established themselves as the power in Kiev and western Ukraine.

So, here we have three of the smartest and most independent journalists of our time, and all three are under the impression created by Western propaganda that Russia has invaded Ukraine.

It appears that the power of Washington’s propaganda is so great that not even the best and most independent journalists can escape its influence.

What chance does truth have when Abby Martin gets kudos from Glenn Greenwald for denouncing Russia for an alleged “invasion” that has not taken place, and when independent Pat Buchanan opens his column dissenting from the blame-Russia-crowd by accepting that an invasion has taken place?

The entire story that the presstitutes have told about the Ukraine is a propaganda production. The presstitutes told us that the deposed president, Viktor Yanukovych, ordered snipers to shoot protesters. On the basis of these false reports, Washington’s stooges, who comprise the existing non-government in Kiev, have issued arrest orders for Yanukovych and intend for him to be tried in an international court. In an intercepted telephone call between EU foreign affairs minister Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign affairs minister Urmas Paet who had just returned from Kiev, Paet reports: “There is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers, it was not Yanukovych, but it was somebody from the new coalition.” Paet goes on to report that “all the evidence shows that the people who were killed by snipers from both sides, among policemen and then people from the streets, that they were the same snipers killing people from both sides . . . and it’s really disturbing that now the new coalition, that they don’t want to investigate what exactly happened.” Ashton, absorbed with EU plans to guide reforms in Ukraine and to prepare the way for the IMF to gain control over economic policy, was not particularly pleased to hear Paet’s report that the killings were an orchestrated provocation. You can listen to the conversation between Paet and Ashton here: http://rt.com/news/ashton-maidan-snipers-estonia-946/

What has happened in Ukraine is that Washington plotted against and overthrew an elected legitimate government and then lost control to neo-nazis who are threatening the large Russian population in southern and eastern Ukraine, provinces that formerly were part of Russia. These threatened Russians have appealed for Russia’s help, and just like the Russians in South Ossetia, they will receive Russia’s help.

The Obama regime and its presstitutes will continue to lie about everything.

  9. My final thoughts on this are…..very simple……

Wherever there is a major court case going out live..(Pastorius…Michael Jackson…O J Simpson) there appears to be a shoe-in of a done deal being put in place under the cloud cover of us V them…..( that is what a court does)….”who hung the jury ma lady?”

Now the referendum in Ukraine has 2 questions….

    are you us?

    or

    are you them?

one thing is certain…none of us will ever know if crimea river is a tune written by us and them…..

that is what closed door politics is……

you give me manhattan….and I’ll screw your ass and eventually cough up alaska….

    voila !!

  10. Victoria Nuland tipped the State Department’s hand before current events were rolled out on the world stage. I welcome Putin’s actions and suggest that out of the chaos and energetic vortex that is happening, room for some real change now has a chance to be created. There are some great articles on Veterans Today for anyone who wants to make the effort to read them.

Spring is upon us and with that comes the opportunity for rebirth. For all of us. But please, let’s stop supporting American exceptional thinking. Our country has perpetrated great injustice all over the planet and at home. The Ukraine is a country rich in natural resources. The EU is floundering economically and can benefit from the Ukraine joining. America also has an eye on Venezuela, a country vastly rich in oil resources. These countries should be allowed to develop their resources for the good of their own population. Russian can easily leave the G8 and participate more fully with the BRICS alliance.

It’s laughable to me that Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. In many ways he is worse than Bush. As William Rivers Pitt writes in Truthout this week, “Obama is not your friend.”

And a shout out to Russia for having the humor to make art from the non-functioning Olympic ring at their opening ceremony during their closing ceremony. They put on a beautiful show that was family oriented without extensive Occult symbolism.

And there was another message, more subtle, but definitely there during the Olympic games. Canada, where I have been living for the past several months, provided an example for all of us in many different ways. Aside from showcasing the rise of the Divine Feminine with so many women winning gold and silver medals, there were examples of their male athletes exhibiting true generosity of spirit like when one of their speed skaters gave up his spot in a race to his teammate whom, he felt, had a better chance of winning and who did, in fact, win the silver medal in that race. And, a Canadian cross-country skier who gave a ski to a competitor from another country so he could finish his race.

American aggression at home and abroad needs to be acknowledged and put in check. I hope Putin is part of that process and that we can all see proof that a new way of living is beginning NOW.

My father’s mother, my grandmother, was Ukranian. Her father came over first and slowly sent money home for my great-grandmother to join him in America. There is a wonderful story in my family that tells how she was doing her laundry down at the river when her roll of bills, stuffed in her bossom, had fallen out and floated downstream. She was devastated when she realized her travel funds were gone. Someone downstream found the money. Everyone in the local village knew my great-grandmother was saving to go to America and all of the money was returned to her.

That part of the world is a mystical place and perhaps it will be allowed to express the light that shines there. Out of the chaos of art making or any creative act, new possibilities have a chance to grow. I’m ready to go with that flow. I’m sure tired of what we have been living with in recent times.

  11. . . and how perceptive your words that Putin “is the face”; why waste all that Libra Sunshine?

Speaking of the cusp of the Piscean/Aquarian age and Rome’s love-in, Pope Francis in an interview yesterday alluded (Neptune aspecting Uranus and Pluto) that relief might come for same-sex marrieds through a different approach to the subject that the Church might (some day in the distant future) adopt. Perhaps tolerance for same-sex civil unions that provide health care benefits and such might be on his mind. Consider too that this morning the Dalai Lama led the U.S. Senate in a prayer for peace.

These things also have a ring of Venus in Aquarius opposite Black Moon Lilith square the nodes. Aquarian daydreams of a new societal cycle (coming December, 2020, Jupiter-Saturn at 0 Aquarius) provided to us by Venus at 0 Aquarius, and Pallas (29 Leo) opposite Arachne (29 Aquarius) weaving in and around the tiniest threads (threats?) of hope and fear (barely discernible to mere mortals), are visions of a future free from judgment and deprivation. All we need is love.

  12. be…once again you bring a laser like analysis to the inner Putin……perhaps if he had not been in so many putains….we would not be facing this silly little pimp!

Let us try and bring Len’s piece about the Nodes and Black Moon Lilith in a cross with Venus to bear on world affairs right now.

Reagan and Thatcher orchestrated the demise of the Soviet Union. Now think about that…..what are the right wing hawks in U.S.S.R. going to do….

    “Oh that’s OK then” I think not…….

This is a long planned operation with Putin at it’s head….he is the face….just like Dubya was….and all those others that have walked that walk!

Everything else is just stagecraft….the microcosm gives us as astrologers an insight the into little men who are trying to be big……

The macrocosm is such that unless you are a specialist analyst of 40 years standing….it is simply narcissistic and vanity-driven to speculate as to who is holding whose cocones while listening to the nutcracker suite!

It is a power-play dynamic that is working itself out across the cusp of Piscean/Aquarian age! Confused by the shift into Aquarian technological advances, the Right Wing Hawks on both sides keep coming up against new ways to say …..

“Hello darlin…have you seen my hot AK47 up your ass….?

They will, in time wear each other out….but you should have noticed the shift in the world media’s coverage….round about the time Venus hit the cross with the nodes……..

    Front end cuspal Aquarius….Grand Cross….yummeeeeee!

    Suddenly there is a love-in in Rome…..

Some will invoke Nero, Caligula, Augustus, Jullius Caesar, Cleopatra (cherche la femme), or even The Borgia Popes…..

    My money is on Michaelangelo……

  13. This whole ‘crisis’ is verbal diarrhoea.. The Press keeps the tagline “Crisis in Ukraine” because we face 24/7 brainwashing.

The link I am posting below explains the real picture and comes back to the death throes of Capitalism as underwritten by the corporate psychopaths who have usurped western governments. No other analysis is required. It’s just how it is.

Exporting democracy aka friendly market structures for rabid consumption of other countries’ resources explains absolutely every move of international criminality, dressed up as angelic protection!

  14. Eric, there’s no fallacy in acknowledging the credentials of an investigative journalist. Parry’s analysis stands on its own merits.

The destabilization of Russia’s near abroad and the vilification of Putin offer advantages to multiple parties in the US, the EU and the Middle East. I would refer you to Parry’s extensive reporting and I welcome an informed discussion.

  15. David, please stop this. What you are doing is making an appeal to authority — a fallacy.

You only know what you have read. If you have done any primary source research, please provide an inventory.

You have also not answered my question, which is to explain how this scenario as it’s working out is to the advantage of the United States, as Parry alleges has conducted the whole operation, ostensibly using neo-Nazis as its pawns. I understand that this happens. What I am asking for you to do is analyze the situation and tell me how this has been to the advantage of the U.S. and/or NATO.

  16. March 4, 2014 Planetwaves.fm audio recording (21:05-22:18)

“OK, so I have been trying to sort out what has been going on. And trying to, you know, debunk as many of the false I guess rumors or propagandized stuff that’s been going out. And it’s not that easy to sort it out.

“Except I run everything by Anatoly and he is saying no, this is not a coup by professional neo-Nazis. This is one thing that’s been going around in the Left media as reported by Robert Parry on Consortium News.

“Anatoly’s take is that the neo-Nazi militants are actually Russians acting like neo-Nazis to stir up sentiments and, you know, make it look like there’s a reason. And then they’ll sacrifice a couple of Russian soldiers. And they’ll say there’s violence. And they’ll escalate things.

“So Anatoly’s take is that everything that is happening pretty much is a form of, with the exception of the actual protests, everything else is basically stagecraft. It’s designed to make things look a certain way to justify Putin’s involvement in the situation.”

Hmmm. Glad to hear you weren’t debunking.

  17. Here is something that got me thinking. It’s a reader comment from today’s NYT coverage of the Ukraine situation.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/world/europe/ukraine.html?hp

Watching the freakout over Putin’s moves, ask yourself: why does the US elite want to win this so badly? Is this about stopping an evil dictator? But the same people have no problem with brutal military government in Egypt. They insist that Putin is trying to rebuild the Evil Empire. But they are the ones who have been building outposts of the American empire around Russia. Putin’s move in Crimea is an attack of a cornered animal.

Who started this fight? Isn’t it Putin’s fault? The seeds were sown before Putin, in early 1990s, when Russia was too weak to defend its interests abroad. The US proceeded to expand NATO, right to Russia’s doorstep. Then NATO bombed Serbia. Bit by bit, it became clear to the Russians that NATO remained directed against them.

This is not about US trying to be a global policeman. A policeman’s job is to keep order. Is there order in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya now? This is about power. This is about American hegemony against any rival. Russia constrains the US freedom of action. Therefore, it must be decimated at any cost. Many American policymakers WANT a new Cold War. Conflict helps them justify what they are doing. They will fail. Russia will remain strong, and China will keep rising.

What world do you want to live in? A world in which one country’s elite can do whatever they want? Or a world with a balance of power, where powerful people consider interests of others before taking action? This is a time for thinking and connecting the dots.

  18. I know who Robert Parry is. I did not try to debunk him.

I said that I am personally not yet convinced that this was a U.S.-driven coup. That does not mean that I won’t accept facts and data as I get them. It means that I don’t feel qualified to make a judgment at this point. For that matter, neither does my one source who actually worked with Putin.

Maybe you could help me out a little. How does the scenario as it’s unfolding actually help the U.S., Europe or the Ukraine? Presumably if this was our plan, and it worked, then that means things should be going well for the people who made the plan. Can you show me how that is working out?

  19. Putin’s chart is also interesting because his natal Karma in Sagittarius conjuncts his natal Mars which conjuncts his natal Galactic Core, and they are squared by his natal Pallas in Pisces. Putin’s Pallas in Pisces sextiles his Pholus which conjuncts our Pluto. But Putin’s Karma, Mars, GC sextiles our Moon in Aquarius. He’s the guy we love to hate.

Pity poor Putin, whose Venus at 11 Scorpio is conjunct his Nemesis also at 11 Scorpio. He can’t show love without getting a payback for past wrong doings. With the Pisces New Moon conjunct Chiron trining Putin’s Venus and Nemesis, how’s that going to work out for him? How will these goddesses be affected when transiting Jupiter reaches 11 Cancer in about 3 weeks and trines his Venus and Nemesis? Will he finally understand? Will they bite him in the butt? All’s fair in love and war.
    be

  20. Eric, your purported “debunking” of investigative journalist Robert Parry misses the mark.

In a video interview this week on the Real News Network, Parry discusses the role of the US and the west in destabilizing Ukraine
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p84KzkdKZb4

Parry does not conflate the larger community of non-violent anti-government protesters and the militant neo-Nazi minority who violently instigated the actual coup d’etat.

Parry was awarded the George Polk Award for National Reporting in 1984 for his work with the Associated Press on the Iran-Contra story and uncovered Oliver North’s involvement in it as a Washington-based correspondent for Newsweek. He is known for his role in including breaking the Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare (CIA manual provided to the Nicaraguan contras) and the CIA and Contras cocaine trafficking in the US scandal in 1985.

Parry launched Consortium News online in 1995, using funds derived from his retirement from Newsweek. From 2000 to 2004, he also worked for the financial wire service Bloomberg. Parry had become disillusioned with the mainstream media, in particular with the way that it had treated the Iran-Contra scandal, on which he had made many contributions. “My insistence on getting to the bottom of this historically important story alienated me from my senior editors at Newsweek – and from many of my journalistic colleagues who simply wanted to keep their jobs and avoid trouble. … The era of Watergate had come full circle. Instead of exposing crimes and cover-ups, the Washington press corps’ job had changed into harassing and mocking serious investigators – the likes of Iran-Contra special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh – who stayed on the trail.”

In 1999, Parry founded The Consortium for Independent Journalism (CIJ), a non-profit US-based independent news service. Consortium News reporting has been featured several times in Project Censored’s Top 25 Most Censored Stories of the Year. This includes breaking the top-ranked story of 2007, the use of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 to permit the Presidential definition of any person as an “enemy combatant”, who may be denied habeas corpus.

Parry has written several books, including Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & “Project Truth” (1999); Secrecy & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq (2004); and America’s Stolen Narrative: From Washington and Madison to Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes to Obama (2012).

  21. Just wondering about the chart, have you seen Dave’s latest at Astroamerica re the Gregorian vs Julian jazz?

  22. Interesting that the Sibley US Pluto is conjunct the Putin Pholus. Do you ever find valuable information by doing a composite chart between someone, like say Putin and an event like Yanukovich fleeing Kiev? ( or even Putin in synastry with US or Obama or whoever)

  23. I believe Putin is under the influence of Neptune. He is obviously caught up in the Uranus-Pluto square because his Sun is 13+ Libra. Because trans. Neptune has minor aspects to both transiting Uranus (decile) and transiting Pluto (septile) we are all under his influence to a certain degree. However, Putin’s Neptune is sesquiquadrate transiting Neptune and I believe it’s pressuring him to action as shown by his natal Mars (conjunct his natal and trans. Galactic Core).

His Sagittarian Mars sextiles his Libran Neptune (+Mercury+Saturn) and his Mars has been (and will continue to be) sextiled by transiting Mars for a month by the time the March equinox happens. It appears he reads the message from the GC (conjunct his Mars) as a call to action, supported by those Neptunian influences and he looks to me to be the Universe’s pick as designated driver (or catalyst) to get the evolutionary process moving forward. Time’s a’wasting says transiting Saturn square to Putin’s Pluto (22+ Leo), exact on March 29th.
