Sun in Cancer — and Lots of Gemini

Venus enters Gemini Monday morning.
Venus enters Gemini Monday morning.
The Sun ingressed water sign Cancer over the weekend, the solstice that brought the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day in the Southern Hemisphere. And as often happens, there remains a collection of planets in the sign the Sun just left. For this and other reasons, adjoining signs are more closely related in practical reality than they are in astrological theory. It works this way with natal charts as well (i.e., you probably have some planets in signs adjoining your Sun sign). Currently Mercury is retrograde in Gemini (that ends in one week), and Juno, one of the most potent and influential asteroids, is also in there. Monday at 8:33 am EDT Venus leaves Taurus and enters Gemini, adding to the many-voiced conversation. With the Cancer Sun there is a pull for emotional grounding, and with numerous points in Gemini there is considerable brainwave activity, mental stress and chatter. It will help therefore to sift through your communications for the real message, which is unlikely to be the one that everyone assumes it is, or the one that sounds true. You may need to composite together a version of the story that is actually helpful, because at the moment there’s plenty of conflicting data. Do your best not to be annoyed by those who don’t see what you’re figuring out, or who are not bothering. With Venus, I suggest being aware of several facts. One is that it’s conjunct an asteroid called Sisyphus, which has the theme of pointless effort. It’s also square a centaur called Nessus, which can accentuate a dark tone both mentally and emotionally. That too is something that must be penetrated and seen through. And finally Venus is gradually moving into a square with Neptune. Devotion to truth is essential right now, and that takes patience. When there is an actual need for truth, it’s unlikely to be because conditions facilitate its emergence. Indeed, the need for truth, for clear perception, for accurate information, coincides with fog and disinformation, and that is the scope of things right now. Venus, the esoteric ruler of Gemini, to me represents not necessarily truth but accurate understanding as a sacred quest. Hang in with her.

  1. Beth,

“I have been forever trying to understand” is a good delineation of Psyche in Gemini, so effectively you are doing your North Node by asking and seeking to understand. Psyche wants to know, but when she looks directly at the thing, it disappears. But if she comes at it from a more oblique angle, more intuitively, less logically – she can instinctively, wordlessly “know” – and then find the words, logic etc. for it afterwards. Your Gemini 11th perhaps allows you to translate in this way, to explain things to people which are difficult to pin down and put into words.

Some questions that help me understand Nessus intuitively: What, metaphorically speaking, did Heracles hand over to Nessus? Imagine that being handed to you – how would you have to feel in order to do what he then did? What, metaphorically, did he then hand to Deinara? What, in nature/biology, works by exactly this mechanism? How is that dealt with? Oh and google Nessus – first result 🙂

Just mentioning all that in case useful, I have prominent Nessus myself.

  2. Venus entering Gemini Square Nessus seems to be working in me today. As in pointing to, and in aid of the process of patience and lovingly letting go in one particular area of my life. “accurate understanding as a sacred quest.” ..Thank you for this.

Beth: Disclosure, this is offered from a novice, as an intuitive read.. in looking at your NN/Nessus/Psyche conjunction (opposite the Moon) I believe the Venus transit coming into conjunction in it’s higher potential may offer the gift to transform. Venus illuminating a loving light on your soul’s progression/movement/journey is through an emotional pattern release, and may reveal/offer integration for the push forward of the truth in yourself.. Particular, relative within, to the house of placement(s) of course.

Psyche’s glyph symbol is the butterfly’s wing and a star..much alone can be interpreted intuitively from this. Hope this helps a little bit.

  3. I love this…
Venus – “accurate understanding as a sacred quest”
    and this depiction of Nessus…
“Nessus, which can accentuate a dark tone both mentally and emotionally. That too is something that must be penetrated and seen through.

In my efforts to best utilize Venus in the current situation to continue pursuing “accurate understanding as a sacred quest”, and to further penetrate and see through the Nessus influence in my chart, I was hoping someone could tell me if I am interpreting this correctly. I have been forever trying to understand my NN/Nessus/Psyche conjunction (opposite the Moon), which Venus will soon pass over.

If the NN is something that we’re moving toward, or should be, (or as be says, “the future directions (NN) they will take”) and I have Nessus – 4-49 and Psyche – 4-41 conjunct the NN – 3-30 (in Gemini, opposite the moon – 4-14 conjunct the SN), and now transiting Venus and Juno are there in Gemini (square my natal Juno – 5-09 conjunct transiting Nessus), and Ceres on the Aries point at 0-42 (near the Juno discovery point at 3 Aries), would this be interpreted as understanding that all abuse can be healed, but watch out for the implications of jealousy and those who like to cause trouble or are too aggressive? Or, resolving abuse and psychological issues related to mothering / marriage and the “dark tone both mentally and emotionally” that I clung to for too long due to childhood abuse issues (I will add that I am unable to have children)? I was emotional and depressed as a child and for a long time thought that the psychological scars from the abuse wouldn’t heal, though now Pluto on my Mercury is helping to reconfigure my mind. Perhaps the Gemini 11th house is showing me to heal the split between who I was in the past and who I am now, and help to bring my true self to the surface via groups and friends…?

Currently transiting Psyche is retrograde conjunct my natal Mars / Pholus exact conjunction (Aquarius / 7th). I’m hoping that connecting with others through technology will help me further pursue accurate understanding, and potentially this action I am taking will create a burst of understanding, like stumbling upon something in the fog and having it spark a revelation.

I will add that Atlantis is pretty close to the NN/Nessus/Psyche conjunction at 7-12, and transiting Atlantis is opposite my natal Juno.

  4. In honor of the Gemini influence still present, I want to note two cosmic happenings coming somewhat under the radar these days. The first is that transiting Saturn and transiting Uranus, as of the last day of June, will be in the same degree of their signs which are quincunx, meaning adjustments are called for. Because they will both change directions about the same time (1 day apart) they will not perfect this quincunx, being about 8 arc minutes shy of exact. Therefore they will be in a near-perfect quincunx for 3 weeks from June 30 to July 21 . . and then some. But it won’t be exact.

The 2nd thing is that Mars rules the sign that Uranus is in, and Mars co-rules the sign that Saturn is in, and this week Mars will oppose Uranus on Wednesday the 25th and semi-sextile Saturn on Friday the 27th. My feeling is that the Martian influence will considerably ramp up the irritability quotient of the Saturn-Uranus adjustment. And Mars ain’t alone.

Mars is traveling with Ceres, Vesta and the north node – has been for months – and he will exact conjunctions with all 3 of them between July 12 and July 15, starting new cycles and ending old cycles from the 23-24 degree area of Libra. Because Saturn and Uranus do not make their stations (direct for Saturn and retrograde for Uranus) until July 20 and 21, whatever Mars is “negotiating” with Ceres, Vesta and the NN will pertain to and affect the “almost perfect” quincunx adjustments happening between Saturn and Uranus.

This can relate to personal situations as well as global situations and as it appears to me, Mars the Initiator is working deals that involve Ceres matters (food, parenting, planet Earth), Vesta matters (loyalty, dedication, investment, comfort) and the future directions (NN) they will take. These matters fold into the Uranus (breakthrough)- Saturn (stability) adjustments that are already taking place between “I vs. you” (Aries Uranus) and “what we are supposed to share” (Scorpio Saturn).

The more you know, the more you can make sense of the instability that surrounds us. It’s a Jupiter thing, this understanding situations, and right now Jupiter squares the nodes of the Moon. Jupiter is also conjunct the U.S. natal Sibly Mercury in the 8th house of shared resources. Today’s transiting Jupiter is – and has been for a while now – in the south bending (half way between the north and south transiting nodes of the Moon).

Where the north bending would indicate a “taking in” effect, the south node indicates a “releasing, letting go or giving away” effect. An application of the transiting Jupiter to the current situations (one of which would be the quincunx between Saturn and Uranus and it’s relationship to the Mars entourage) then would be for the U.S. to release, let go or give away something which it shares with others (U.S. Mercury in the 8th house). Since trans. Jupiter conjuncts U.S. Mercury, that might mean information, commerce, automobiles (!) or partnerships (since US Mercury rules 7th house of partners) as these things come under the heading of what is normally associated with Mercury. Mercury is also associated with trickery.

Interesting, to me anyway, is that transiting Jupiter will begin a new cycle to transiting Mercury at the same time transiting Mars will square them both, at the same time Venus will square Uranus and trine Saturn. Somebody won’t be getting everything they ask for and so begins the new Jupiter-Mercury cycle in August. However, the (almost perfect) quincunx between Uranus and Saturn will, by then, be separating and the push for adjustment will soon dissipate. I’ll be keeping an eye out for how that works out.

  5. These daily posts are like a beacon of light with this much [seemingly] conflicting energy swimming around. Thanks for distilling it down to devotion to truth. I have the patience for that quest, I just have to be reminded of it sometimes.
