This week we move into a new treceña from 13 Quej/Deer on Aug. 20, 2014, to 1 Qanil/Rabbit on Aug. 21, 2014. This current treceña, along with the current uinal (20-day cycle) and tzolkin (260-day cycle), all end on 13 Ahau/Sun Sept. 2, 2014. Of course it all begins again the next day!
The treceña (13 day-cycle) that is passing has clearly been a magic portal of transformation for the Earth. If we needed more proof of the infinite value of every individual soul on this planet, the deaths of just two individuals shocked the world in totally unexpected ways.
An 18-year-old unarmed man in Ferguson, Missouri, named Michael Brown — never heard of before by anyone outside his family and small community — shot to death by a police officer; and a beloved comedian and actor, Robin Williams, who chose to take his own life.
The death of Michael Brown happened on 2 Ajmac/Owl, a day of duality in justice. After a frightening week of protests in Ferguson was met by a militarized police force, there was a significant moment of clarity and balance on 7 Imix/Crocodile, Aug. 14, 2014. On that day, the governor of Missouri put the Missouri Highway Patrol — led by Captain Ronald Johnson, a Ferguson native — in charge of security.
A new slogan for world peace has emerged from the protestors holding up their hands and chanting, “Hands up; don’t shoot!” I believe this will work in Gaza, Ukraine, and everywhere there is turmoil, we just need to get the word out — although as Martin Luther King Jr. explained and experienced*, ‘working’ may still involve violence and struggle along the road to changing the dominant world paradigm.
Take some time to look within this 1 Rabbit day, Thursday. Venus is tired; she needs some beauty rest or watch out! Try to stay in your hovel. The warrior goddess transforms into the Cosmic Sun over the next 13 days.
There will be a “parting of the waters,” 2 Toj/Water, this Friday, Aug. 22, 2014. One tzolkin ago (260 days), 2 Toj was Dec. 5, 2013 — when Nelson Mandela passed away. The energy of Mandela’s soul is resonating through the hearts of oppressed people right here in the USA, and elsewhere.
Saturday and Sunday are 3 Tzi/Dog and 4 Batz/Monkey. The police should be in the news again on 3 Dog, perhaps with folks singing “Joy to the World” this night if justice is finally served. Follow the thread of 4 Monkey and it will take you to far-flung places in no time!
Monday, 5 E/Road, we might discover that love is the destiny we all seek. Road days are also associated with humility, being human. The difference between monkeys and humans is that we have a sense of destiny; a sense that we are ‘put’ on Earth by a Creator to do something or achieve some state of being greater than mere sustenance of the physical body.
Tuesday Aug. 26, 2014, heal the masculine energies this 6 Reed day. You know it is a hard life when all you want is to be making love and to enjoy a little peace, but work and duty keep calling. Trying to experience love with another human sometimes feels as easy as getting a wild bird to eat out of your hands!

* I have just been reading Martin Luther King’s letters and speeches. The current wave of protests in Ferguson, Missouri, is aligned (in the Maya tzolkin calendar) with the lunch-counter protests in Birmingham, Alabama. There, of course, the protests had been ongoing for several weeks.
An agreement reached by business owners and city leaders with the protestors on May 10, 1963 (3 Noj/Earthquake) was immediately disrupted the next day, May, 11, 1963 (4 Tijax/Flint Knife) by the Klu Klux Klan bombing of the home of Dr. King’s brother, and the hotel room they believed Dr. King was occupying (he was in Georgia at the time, not in Birmingham). Violent demonstrations broke out after this instigation.
On May 22, 1963 (2 Toj/Water) a Federal Appeals judge reversed the decision of the Birmingham Board of Education to suspend 1000 student protestors for legally exercising their constitutional rights.

Thank you, Carlos, for helping me understand where Mayan Daykeeper/you are coming from. Your comment reassures me that I am doing just what I am supposed to be doing, as I re-live, from a different place in my heart and life, what scarred/marked/etched itself into my late teens and early twenties; that my activism continues but geared now to a positive, future oriented, believing way…my blog IS engaged in posting alerts to the most salient problems for those who are still waking up as well as posting alternative solutions to today’s dilemma related to sustainability and green energy (etc..) as The Change is crashing on some, and tightening on others.
Getting across the border between Canada and the USA is an experience all to itself, and different each tome. The militarization at our border is so extreme it was actually ludicrous yesterday, but there is so much fear in the guards—Your gentle, clear perspective helped ground me today as I recover from a long week and an exhausting border-crossing day yesterday.
AND. One more question I thought of after posting last night:

Thank you so much for this, dear Carlos – it touches so much of what I’m experiencing now. Like so many, I am totally overwhelmed by all the bloodshed and violence that is happening in the world right now, not to mention the freak weather and natural disasters that also contribute to it all. On top of this, last week I watched a documentary film about the plight of Ethiopian refugees who came to Europe via Libya and were submitted to human trafficking on the way and thrown into jail in Libya where they were often tortured. This is still going on. My Somali friends tell me that it is even worse there now that Gheddafi has gone. And the world is silent. I find it unbearable at times. Ar rhe same time, I’m experiencing this unbelievable heart-centred (Leo) energy that I have never felt in this way before. it’s as if these two forces are working side by side – as you say, dear Carlos. Every act of kindness or solidarity I show to others is returned three fold – and I am quite often bathed in this wonderful warm glow of love, in spite of all the struggle and hardship. This love is very strong, both inside and out. And I think it’s important to try and tap into this – even if it’s so hard at times. (I hope this answers some of your questions, Lea!)

Once again you have generously and gently served to keep me humble and grateful. Your invocation of Dr. King’s 1963 efforts in Alabama correlates with Chiron’s (undiscovered at the time) return to very much the same degrees of Pisces now. The fact that so many are aware of Chiron now is a key difference from 1963. What was felt by a comparative few in 1963 is known to all but the willfully unconscious now, even as you contribute to elevate our awareness even further. It is a privilege to read your words.

i think it is helpful to know how far we’ve come and how far we have yet to go. Remember it’s just a ride. Now it is this generation’s turn to look within and see where we still need to heal. Fear is huge, in the cops and politicians more so than the civilians. The oppressed people have nothing to lose, so no reason to be afraid, the cops are trained to be afraid of a non-existent threat. The entire power structure may fall at any moment, but we have to be ready to replace it all with systems based on love and humanity for All.
Those who were here during Dr. King’s time should recognize the patterns and can teach us how to make practical changes, not to be overly-passionate because that just triggers more fear in the authorities….and so much more!

Thank you, Carlos for another week of looking through your eyes at life and time from a Mayan Daykeeper’s perspective. I truly honor and am intrigued by this wisdom you carry. Yet this week, as the hatred and frustration escalates and affects evey community in the US with the realizaton that so little has changed.
After so much done by the good hearts of so many—it is worse, apparently, as un trained local police men and women have been given military equipment that they have barely been trained to use properly.
Sadness fills me as I interact with many people who are angry and tired and mistrustful of me and everyone right about now—-
In the Mayan regard for cycles, perhaps the point is not full resolution, or peace, or satisfactory outcomes–just ongoing struggle, and lessons learned…???? I find the synchronicity of cycles with the 1960’s Civil Rights activism (which was my generation’s backdrop) interesting…but is it helpful…????
How does this information give me perspective….? How is it to help me live A better/clearer/cleaner life? Maybe that is not the point? This has to do with large cycles of human events, but ti is small human beings having our parts in it….?

Great news! More Mayan cities discovered. My folks lived in Isla del Carmen, Campeche, MX in the late 90’s. I was at Etzna temple, where Mel Gibson filmed ‘Apocalypto’ (not recommended, btw)
