Today’s Oracle takes us to the Capricorn monthly for April 1, 2004

Embrace the reality that we all make our own decisions. This is true no matter what the outer appearance may be, or what various shades of petty tyrant try to get us to believe. Everyone chooses, and chooses all the time; most of what we choose is how we feel. That, in turn, is often the choice between truth and lie, because most self-deception occurs on the level of emotion. There’s a word for lying to ourselves about our feelings, and that word is denial. I know this can seem like a perfectly logical way to live in a world where we seem to have neither power nor control. But both of those factors are exercised by one action: choice. If you want to regain your freedom, look around and find the moment of choosing, or better still, know when you are there.

  1. Indeed. Most of what we choose is how we feel, as we feel something all the time. We are also thinking something all the time, and these thoughts are choices, as well. Our choices aren’t just our actions – our actions are often the last leg of the choice process. Choice begins long before action.

I am not sure, however, that most self-deception occurs on the level of emotion, well, at least not for me, I know what I feel. I think it occurs most often in thought. We think we have no control. We think that if we’re in deep doo doo, it’s somebody’s or some situation’s fault, or just fate, God or The Way it Is, not that we are responsible. Not that we have created this life, this situation, this problem, oh, and this joy, this pleasure, this success. Our feelings can often be from the subconscious, unlike our thoughts, which we actively participate in, consciously.

Denying responsibility keeps us spinning in circles, repeating and not learning, and feeling (back to the beginning – feeling) either like a victim, or waiting for the other shoe to fall, thinking we have no control over the bad stuff or the good stuff.

Not to mention, that if we viewed the bad stuff as lessons, or instead of a derailing, railing – setting us back where we need to be – we’d understand our power to groove our lives along the course(s) it needs, that nothing, ultimately, is bad or negative. It all has a place, and we’ve done it all.
