Ok, if they can all get along, why can’t we?

The person who uploaded this video to YouTube writes,

See how the fox, eagle and cat are all just fine hanging out and no one is trying to attack anyone and they are getting along just fine? Notice the eagle in the background on the lamp post down by the street. That is the partner to this eagle. They aren’t always out to attack and kill each other. Our fox and eagles and cats basically get along just fine here. Sometimes if there is food they might fight over the food some. I live in Unalaska, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands. Also, earlier in the day when the fox first came Gizmo my cat went right up to the fox and told him to leave. It was too funny! But the fox came right back!

  1. ah, well i haven’t used the editing option on utoob, and the videos i post aren’t shaky. it still looks fake in ways to me but i’m a critical media literacy person. no doubt those animals may visit her porch, and all at once like that is a big “hmmm….” but then again – i do know there are many ab/original creation stories that talk of all animals getting along like that so perhaps it is a sign of hope.

  2. actually stormi, a commenter on YouTube says that is actually an effect from YouTube’s upload/editing program that helps to “smooth” over shaky-cam jumps. i’ve never uploaded video, so i can’t corroborate, but it made a certain sense to me — as does the presence (probably regularly) of scraps and cat food.

  3. Wow. I refrained from posting that my local foxes, which, yes, have sat out side my building door, are all rabid. In fact, rabies in Arctic fox is common.

I thought I’d come across as cynical if I said she was being crazy.

  4. I recall seeing still shots of, I think, this very house from the outside showing at least the cat and eagle together. It was on a blog written in Alaska, and having been to Unalaska a couple of times many years ago this is about par for the course out there. Yes, there’s food somewhere but not in the picture, and that would easily drive the two wildlings into close proximity. It’s a union of convenience, shall I say, not universal love.

There’s no forest out there, no trees at all unless men brought them out and planted them on purpose. The fox lives off of small mammals (so cats, too!) along with garbage, so it’s going to be quite used to humans. Probably too close for comfort for its’ own good.

Eagles will eat anything halfway dead or not. They really aren’t that picky, and they’d probably eat dog/cat kibble if that’s what’s available. Our national bird is a not-so-noble scavenger. Franklin was right, the turkey is a better bird. ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh, and they’re pretty clumsy on the ground: no way is that cat in trouble from the eagle.

  5. agreed – “photoshopped!” (video equivalent) the animal/screen shot switches are too buggy. 3 different moments morphed into one does not equal unity. fail.

  6. i also wondered if maybe she feeds them all enough that they’re wiling to tolerate each other in hopes of some scraps. ๐Ÿ™‚ but it’s still fun to think the animals all just like to hang out together!

  7. this is interesting. my friends and i thought that perhaps there was a carcass hanging on the wall next to the door the video lady was standing in or else MAYBE she had crazy pheromones. that fox is a baby. i never thought for a moment this was everyone getting along. too much not in the picture. predators gather for a reason.

  8. She has a fox and an eagle hanging out on her porch? And the cats are casually sitting around? She’s gifted in ways she’s not bragging about. “When Quinn the Eskimo gets here, all the pigeons gonna run to him.”
