As We Were -- Planet Waves 1.0, circa 1999.

This Internet site will continue to be free from editorial influence by the larger corporate forces which are consuming consciousness, and free from insulting advertisements for things nobody really needs or wants. No Visa card banners. No credit check advertisements. No “free horoscope” ads. No links to porno sites with our articles on holistic sexuality, vacuuming time, love and money from people’s lives. No watered-down coverage because something is too serious to take seriously. In short, none of the typical media nonsense we’ve grown so accustomed to — just the information and news that you think of when you think of the freedom of the Internet. Just the online resources, links and essays that fill the cracks left by the mainstream media. Just the weekly, monthly and yearly horoscopes that you love to read, and that I love to write.

Eric Francis, in a late 1999 letter to our readers.

  1. I am looking for the symbols for the astroids. ie. erie, pholu etc. I can’t find it. I have lost my print out,

  2. “If you’re not fucking up, you’re not doing it right”

Holy Mary, Mother of God, a Virgo cannot hear those words too many times.

  3. Two hard-earned bucks for coffee AND a bagel? Truly last century.

Otherwise, good words and advice, surviving the test of time. Nice Model T as well. Keep on truckin’.

  4. I TOTALLY forgot I wrote that. What a laugh!

    Here is another selection —

Say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ to people. It is not necessary to treat everyone in the “service industry” like your personal slave. Let’s say for instance that the same person has been making your coffee and bagel for seven months at the store you pass on the way to work. It is okay to say hello to this person. It is even okay to say, “Thank you for making my coffee and bagel,” even though everyone knows you pay your hard-earned two bucks for it. You can even walk up to the telephone linemen on the highway and say, “Thank for keeping my telephone working.” Nothing bad will happen you. They will not become a stalker or call the police on you. The chances are they will say hello back, or smile and say, “You’re welcome,” especially if you don’t scream.

What I learned in the 20th century, by Eric Francis

“While the other leading media are busy summing up the Pearl Harbors, the Marilyn Monroes and the proliferation of the horseless buggy, and completely ignoring such small matters as dioxin and genetically modified foods, word came from On High in the Planet Waves bureaucracy this morning to do a wrap-up story on all, or some of, the pearls of wisdom I have gained during my rather eventful journey across these brief years.”

Pearls of wisdom starting with, “If you’re not fucking up, you’re not doing it right”

    Eric,

THANK YOU so much for continuing these! Your integrity is amazing and PW has been a remarkable beacon for others to refer to regarding best practices.

For me, it has been especially freeing because it was the first place (and for a while the ONLY place) I could read about sexuality and could express openly my feelings and desires about my own sexuality in safety. You have created a safe place and that is priceless.
