  1. this photo has Damage Control written all over it

I hope you were able to save the trees!
-the least they could do is give you the wood so you could keep your studio warm..

  2. ..submitted too soon..

..because if you look at the above ground portion of a tree it gives you a good idea of what the below ground system looks like. And that’s a pretty ‘burly’ branching structure.

    Jere

  3. ..Technically, yeah. You have to be aware of how the root systems grow when you either build around trees, or plant the trees around buidings. Some trees have deep narrow roots, and others have surface spreading roots. That is also dependant upon the watering patterns.. And just like water against a mountain, tree roots can break pretty much anything. It is understandable,.. I’d just brainstorm on something a little more ‘holistically aesthetic’ than fibreglass..

    ..a couple pence..

  4. The theoretical reason is that they have grown too big for their planters and the root systems are infiltrating utility pipes. They are going to put in fiberglass planters to replace our bluestone and brick ones, and put in smaller trees.

  5. Wait…what? Unless the trees are infected with some sort of parasite or fungus, how could it possibly be an improvement to get rid of them? How are the trees problematic either physically or esthetically?

The assumption going on here is that they will NOT be replaced. May I ask why that is? Is it too expensive to maintain them? Or is someone on the city council just pissed off at the trees and wants them gone P.D.Q.??

  6. Oy, oy, oy. Cutting trees down is never a good idea, and in this case I think it’s a horrible idea. Someone ought to “improve” the head of whomever came up with that idea. Must be those downtown commission folks that EF has so many valid arguments against. GRRRR!

  7. Seriously?! Will they be replaced with other plantings, or is the idea that tree-less is better?!
