Your Energy — Mars Enters Aries

Mars returns to its Aries home fires at 2:26 am EDT Tuesday morning. Immediately upon ingress to the fire sign it rules, Mars will conjoin with the asteroid Hygiea. Those two objects, their placement, and mutual timing will combine to indicate where and to what purpose your energy may best be put next week, but only you can make it happen.

Astrology by Len Wallick

“Mars,” as Robert Hand succinctly reminds us, “is an energy planet.” You and all living beings have a special relationship with energy, and hence Mars. Energy enables the animation of your physical being.

Beyond animating your physical being, keeping your body at about 98.6 degrees, and giving you the wherewithal to read these words, your energy provides you with the choice of where to put it. You can choose to put your energy into anger, worry, conflict, video games, or any number of things. One of the ways Mars functions in in your life is as a symbolic guide for timing those decisions.

When Mars enters the first degree of Aries, it and Hygiea will occupy what is referred to as the Aries Point. That’s where the Sun will be on the Vernal Equinox, in about two weeks, initiating the pattern of a new season. Every being on Earth experiences an equinox at the same time. That makes it a significant event.

During the days immediately before and after an equinox, every being on Earth is also availed of equal daylight. That is substantial as well, because daylight is the ultimate source of the energy that animates your physical being. The Aries Point thus connects us all, simultaneously and equally, where it matters the most.

When any object other than the Sun occupies the Aries Point there is an equally significant symbolism. Only human beings, however, can convert symbolism into reality. When it comes to Mars, the patterns of where you put your energy are your contribution. Mars on the Aries point implies the timing is right to initiate a new pattern in a way that makes a difference.

When first choosing where to put your energy it is not difficult. Once you get into a pattern, however, it is difficult to change. Every once in a while, a time comes when you can change your pattern more easily than other times. When Mars comes home to rule the roost where all beings are one in a new season is one of those times. This particular time, Hygiea is there to give you a hint of how and what to change about where you put your energy to the best and broadest effect.

Hygiea is an asteroid in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is the fourth largest object in that belt (after Ceres, Pallas and Vesta), but it is more difficult to find than many smaller, brighter asteroids. When discovered, Hygiea was in early Libra, which implies an affinity with the Aries Point because the Sun’s entry to Libra corresponds to an equinox as well. All of that information about Hygiea, along with its name, provides us with some valuable clues about how to interpret its conjunction with Mars next week.

One of the most striking things about interpreting asteroids in the context of astrology is how consistently their names serendipitously correlate to observation. The name Hygiea corresponds to that of a Greek and Roman goddess who personified not only health, but what you can do about your health and that of others.

Combining its name with its discovery and astronomy, Hygiea the asteroid represents the main interface between personal and public health. That interface is hygienic practice. Hygiene is one of the largest factors in health. For many, however, the essentials of its practice are more difficult to find than heavily advertised products that do less for your well being. When Mars brings energy to the issue next week, it will be important that you do the same.

The world is getting more crowded. At the same time, the public institutions we have depended on to take care of public health issues are, in fact, becoming less dependable, and often more corrupt. Thinking that the consequences will not effect you or that there is nothing you can do about them will lead to disaster. Putting your energy into solutions will contribute equally to your well being and that of the entire world. It begins with questioning the energy you put into yourself and your immediate environment, then continues into examining what you put into the world.

You can ask questions about where you are putting your energy now. Is it into criticism or validation? Conflict or resolution? Competition or affirmation? Is there any way you are not making a difference now? Is it the difference you really want to make?

When it comes to really making a difference, it can be as simple as taking a moment to stop texting in order to cover your sneeze. You can also put in some extra effort so that what goes down the pipe is less toxic. Then, you can give some extra attention to those in charge of what comes out of the pipe, so they will know that somebody is paying attention.

You can put down the fast food, and pick up the garbage. You can include a bar of soap, or cloth diapers with the comestibles you take to the food bank, and you can make sure what you do take is something that you would actually eat yourself. All of those efforts can and will make somebody more healthy, and that will serve to protect your own health in turn because public health is your health.

The energy that keeps your body animated, like your health, is not just your own. It comes from the Sun and passes through the organisms that comprise your food before they pass it on to you. In turn it passes through you, and while it does so, you have the power to choose where it goes. That is as real as power gets. Next week, think about the merger of Mars and Hygiea where the Sun will soon avail the source of life equally, and begin a new season of your own life dedicated to using your own power wisely. The health you save could be your own.

  1. Len,
Just noticed something in the chart for Rand Paul’s filibuster two days ago and thought you might be interested. The ascendent (for Washington DC) of the chart is at 28+ Gemini, an infamous degree in and of itself, but my interest was primarily devoted to it’s opposition to the GC (27+ Sagittarius) and Okyrhoe (29+ Sagittarius). What I thought might interest you is that Hygiea was at 28 Pisces 29 at the moment Sen. Paul began his remarkable 12+ hour talkathon.

Perhaps this “clue” might mean that Mars will fuel Hygiea’s message, which could be seen as part of Sen. Paul’s obsessive notion that our government has the power to aim a drone at us while sitting in a cafe here in the U.S.A., something not good for our health.

Hygiea, square the 28th degree of Gemini (Eric calls it the Atlantis degree or the nuclear degree I believe) and square the GC (the Source) and Okyrhoe, Chiron’s daughter in myth reveals a lot about this event. Zane Stein, in Feb/Mar 2013 issue of Mountain Astrologer, says of Okyrhoe “The myths about Okyrhoe speak of the power in revealing the truth and of the consequences that may follow and the consequences of obeying, or disobeying , the [filibuster?]rules.” He tells us that Zeus had Apollo turn Okyrhoe into a mare because she revealed to much to mankind regarding the power of the gods. Okyrhoe was a prophetess who just couldn’t keep her mouth shut.

As Mars symbolizes aggression, and he was only 3 degrees behind Hygiea at the time, and also in the Filibuster chart’s 10th house of government, and the fact that it is still being talked about 2 days later, I think it might be something to watch when the two of them reach the Aries Point. Even at the New Moon on Monday, Hygiea will already be at 0+ Aries.

Another interesting thing about this chart is it’s yod between Pluto (11 Cap) and Saturn (11 Scorpio) and Hybris (12 Gemini). 🙂

Then you connect the dots to current events, mix in a bit of pitch-perfect humor, and leave us with the profound subject matter afoot under the heady mix of the outer and minor planets. i bow, i kneel, i genuflect, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for your participation.

  3. Pres. Obama chose to put his energy into feeding congress members this week, but then his Mars at 22 Virgo opposes his Pallas-Athene (and natal Achilles) in Pisces, so there was some feminine strategy involved. While transiting Mars in Pisces was conjuncting the President’s Pallas-Athene (and Achilles!) this week, Mars also opposed the U.S. Sibly Neptune, which at 22 Virgo is conjunct the President’s Mars. Whats more, transiting Mars squared the U.S natal Mars (21 Gemini) last Friday. So what kept all this Marsy energy from erupting into a food fight?

Start with transiting Neptune trine the U.S. Sibly Venus (3 Cancer), trans. Pisces Sun (and Mercury) trine the U.S. Sun in Cancer, transiting Venus conjunct the U.S. Ceres in Pisces, and finally, transiting Ceres in Gemini conjunct the U.S. Mars. It’s really hard to turn down a good meal from the boss.

Still, transiting Ceres (conj US Mars) has been opposite transiting Pholus (22 Sagittarius) so probably they didn’t break out the wine so much at these high-level meal-meetings. Darling Cupido has been conjunct Pholus in Sagittarius these days, as has fellow centaur Amycus who would love to see a shift in energy. But just under the sweetness and light was a lot of Mars; Mars opposing Mars, Mars squaring Mars, all within a grand mutable square. Mutable signs can and should be flexible, knowing that transition is underway. Combining this mutability with negotiations (Pallas-Athene), great food (Ceres), ambiguity (Neptune) left Mars little choice but to flex an occassional muscle and keep a lid on the major macho stuff.

I don’t believe there were any members of the fairer sex invited to these events, but nonetheless, with transiting Venus conjunct U.S. Ceres and squaring US Uranus in Gemini, there is a detectible feminine touch involved. Which leads to acknowledging transiting Juno conjunct the U.S. Sibly Pluto in Capricorn. Of course.

The pattern will change when Mars leads the parade into Aries but in keeping with this harmoneous relationship with the unseen feminine, no doubt Mars will take credit for Hygiea’s contribution toward better health for all. Anything to keep the peace.

  4. Dear Len, thank you for this piece.

I have Hygeia conjunct the Asc natally so she holds a special place in how I have lived my life – a seemingly never ending process of clearing, cleansing through so many layers of mind, body and psyche.

Here is a beautiful temple to Hygeia that lies beside the river that runs through Edinburgh. It is a special place

I am looking forward to this Mars/Hygeia transit at the Aries Point opposite my Sun. I set the intention to start anew.

  5. This piece is so precious Len. Really helps me to direct my energy in the right way – what I needed to read right now. Thank you!

  6. I patented the link of your very exciting article on the subject, there is a lot to say about Hygiea, which also happens on Uranus, thanks again Len 😉

  7. Excellent Len with Mars Hygiea, I had already written an article with Hygiea and Neptune carefully I see many with care, I’ll talk about it in my next article
Good Weekend to you all, soon the News Moon 🙂 🙂 ))))))))))))))))))))

  8. For people with fibromyalgia and other chronic afflictions, using energy wisely is paramount to being a productive entity in this world 🙂 Thank you, Len !

  9. Len,

You have covered so many of the issues I have been thinking about this week, it is truly amazing.

I have been doing lots of juicing off and on since December and see a reall difference in how I am feeling as a result. Our bodies have the intelligence to heal if we give ourselves the support in doing so.

Bringing soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc… to the food banks along with animal food for cats and dogs will go a long way towards helping those who need a hand.

    Thank you again!
    Mia
