Stop and Go — Solar Gemini Begins

Solar Gemini begins at 10:59 pm EDT tonight with a motif of stop and go. The Sun’s first aspect upon ingress to Gemini — a square to asteroid 273 Atropos on Virgo’s front doorstep — will initiate the pattern.

Astrology by Len Wallick

Ten hours later, the Moon will enter Pisces to oppose Atropos and square the Sun, extending the lunar last quarter into a T-square aspect.

The scenario starts like this: very few events in astrology say “go” quite like the Sun entering a new sign.

Yet, the asteroid Atropos (nominally, at least) signals an unequivocal “stop” because it is named after the mythical figure whose job it was to snip the thread of life for each and every mortal. The last quarter Moon indicates impending closures as well.

Finally, a precise mutable T-square with the Gemini Sun in equal separation from the Virgo Moon and Atropos (implying a T-shaped configuration on the zodiac and in the sky) pretty much says “deal with it.”

So, deal with it you must. Fortunately, the same T-square indicates something of how you can.

The mutable quality of Gemini, Virgo and Pisces encourages you to be receptive to change as your first order of business. In order to go with the flow of change you must usually begin by practicing some discernment.

In combination, the case represented by solar Gemini’s initiation would apparently include asking you to discern when stopping will serve you best, even when inertia tempts you to press on inappropriately.

Likewise, when the Sun enters Gemini, you will probably be entering a time to be conscious of when moving in concert with events is the correct thing to do.

Even if the T-square aspect between the Sun, Moon and Atropos entails some work (and T-squares usually do), drudgery is not indicated as an inevitable consequence of solar Gemini this year. At the very least, thanks to the Pisces Moon in its last quarter phase, open-ended drudgery is not indicated.

Indeed, Luna’s unique participation shortly after the Sun enters Gemini this year implies how some sort of closure for your efforts will be available when the Sun and Moon conjoin in Gemini for a New Moon on May 28.

A Gemini Sun lends further encouragement by indicating how you need not be alone in whatever work you must do this week in order to stop or go as you may. At the very least, some empathetic soul should be available to talk, so that you can see your way through the necessary stopping and going more clearly. Ideally, there will also be helpers on hand to make your labors less exerting for having been shared.

Finally, don’t let dour Atropos intimidate you. What may now (or later this week) seem like a life-and-death situation probably will not work out that way. Neither will every ending necessarily be final. Indeed, most conclusions will likely be yours to make, and serve as the prerequisite for making fresh starts.

As a guideline for you, consider encountering situations you face this week as opportunities to either stop or go. Then consider acting on those situations with some form of stopping or going. When you get right down to it, both stopping and going are actions. Action, in turn, is what you do, not what happens to you. Astrology works the same way.

Astrology is not destiny. Rather, astrology is indicative of where and how change (the only constant in your life) is proceeding in the world. When you get an idea of what sort of changes on Earth are indicated by movements in the sky, it gives you awareness.

With awareness, you know your options. When you know your options, you can choose. When you choose from among your options, you can focus your efforts. When you focus your efforts, you can act effectively. When you act effectively — and consciously or not, you always do — destiny reveals itself for what it is: something you make.

The only question is whether you are intentional and conscious in making your destiny. It’s not easy. There is work involved. It takes practice. Conveniently, the astrology implied by the Sun’s ingress to Gemini this year offers you a framework in which to practice.

Simply look both inside yourself and in the vicinity of your daily life for what needs to conclude and what is ready to proceed. Then, make your choices and focus your efforts as best you can.

If you can build your week around such a framework, rather than only being driven by outside provocations to stop and go, your world will change just as surely as the Sun changes signs. Give it a try. What have you got to lose? Just think of what you might gain.

  1. Cynthia: Welcome! And thank you for your kind appraisal of my service.

starrynight3: i spent a day contemplating your questions (hence my delay in responding to all comments). So, thank you for your patience. Given the transits you describe, i would not consider physical activities such as bike riding any more dangerous than usual, PROVIDED you don’t over do the activities. For example, this is not the best time to push limits and go for a “personal best” time for a 100-mile ride. Please, is that a satisfactory answer for you? As far as how i handle such concerns, it’s a matter of how much weight to give to the astrology in any given circumstance. For example, if i need to exert myself as never before in order to save my life, that’s what i have to do regardless of whether the astrology favors it. Please, is that understandable?

be: Thank you for being the eagle-eyed master of the yod once again. Also appreciated is how you interpret Pallas as a mediating influence for its proximity to Atropos – i hope you are correct, it would make communications so much easier.

aword: It is for me to thank you. It’s sheer joy to know that my service serves you well.

    Kate: You are most welcome.

    P. Sophia: It appears that you are the one raising our consciousness with the interpretation of your dream and how it ties in with the ambient astrology. Thank you for a valuable contribution.

Strawberry: It’s very gratifying to know that my service is of aid to your amazing and instructive example of rapid but grounded evolution. It appears as though you have the proverbial horse and cart in the right order to get where you want to go.

joya: Glad it clicked for you. May you make it so.

  2. I needed this, Len. I’ve felt for a while that a phase in my life was coming to a close, so I appreciate the reminder that it takes work to focus & choose the closure consciously. I’m not sure I know how to do that, but I can at least be aware that it’s what I’m aiming for. That’s something, anyway.

  3. Thank you Len!

This very much sounds like we are being offered an energy of raising our consciousness towards further encouraging the recognition of the purpose of our spirit within this earthly form. Letting go of the old outworn to allow new creative ideas not previously expressed here grows from endurance and fortitude.

I had a dream yesterday morning of a big beautiful Lion. Upon waking I immediately thought of the Tarot Card, which symbolically is of Strength. The key in the dream was the trick of how to appreciate the gentle overwhelming beauty of the animal, while adequately overcoming and harnessing the great wild power. The claws had to be wrapped in such a way as to not be severe, yet on the other hand, out of graciousness and respect, protected. Out of patience and a weighing the options, a balanced solution from various alternatives arose and was positively selected/found.

In thinking about this today and after reading your article of the Sun entering the mutable Gemini and “stop/go”, I also thought of Mars stationing direct and this being another methodical lesson. A taming and taking control. A cosmic cue offering awareness to retaining self discipline. Learning to temper our often self-centered beast within can bring not just our physical, but also our emotional and moral creativity and power to a greater good use. Then we can begin to see just who we really are, acting in our life.

  4. ‘Simply look both inside yourself and in the vicinity of your daily life for what needs to conclude and what is ready to proceed. Then, make your choices and focus your efforts as best you can.’

Indeed. Very much ready to do that. Thanks Len

  5. 🙂 thanks for mentioning the “helter-skelter” feeling, Be. That’s the feeling yesterday and today gave me the picture of riding a horse, one that’s balking a bit; “stop and go”. We’ve got actually blustery winds driving things here and there today, I’ll just hunker down like an old cowboy in the saddle and help guide the horse home.

  6. Thank you, Len. Your words offered reassurance when reassurance was sorely needed.
    ‘Gemini Ho’, then.

  7. Well, at least Gemini facilitates the stopandgo energy much better than Taurus does/would! If Gemini couldn’t do (at least) two things at once where would be for Pete’s sake? Juggle we must sometimes, and it appears the airy winds are blowing the weathervanes around in circles these days, only to reverse direction now and then.

There is a Yod still in effect today that should help stabilize our helter-skelter atmosphere as this yod has as it’s apex release point of adjustment, Saturn. Nothing stabilizes like Saturn and his fixed deep-water Scorpio placement should both anchor and allow flexibility for us weathervanes twisting around in all that mutable energy. Let us not forget too that strategizing Pallas will have just arrived at 1 Virgo keeping Atropos somewhat in tow (put the scissors away girl!), as well as having a tranquilizing (balancing) effect on the newly arrived Moon (and Nessus too) in Pisces.

The dissipating sextile between Venus in Aries and Mercury in Gemini which tested Saturn’s ability to adapt (when both were quincunx Saturn in the yod) in a fixed sign has proved the crafty (when in defense mode) Saturn’s wide ranged repertoire. His place in the grand water trine between Jupiter and Chiron has provided remarkable support for him, so when in doubt as to stop or go, I would think it safe to consult Saturn’s sage advice. He’s in touch with the heart and feeling senses these days and can be depended on for practical as well as sensitive advice.

All in all, we must “deal with it” as it comes Len, and your wise understanding of the prevailing astrology has prepared us to be ready to think on our feet, while in motion, and make intelligent and appropriate decisions. We are grateful as ever.

  8. Great column Lynn. I have Gemini in the sixth house at 14°. I am curious whether or not physical activities such as bike riding could be considered risky given the Mars Square sun and the current north node and Chiron aspects. How do you handle those kinds of concerns? Love your work! Thanks

  9. Well done, Len!
I can see traffic lights as a way to practice thoughts and musing on what and how, rather than an annoyance or a boon.
    You are amazing. Thanks!
