Near and Far – Sun Trine Pluto

The Virgo Sun’s earth trine to Pluto’s Capricorn corner at 4:46 am EDT Sunday will symbolically close the gap between near and far. It will be for you to make it real. It’s about how the Sun is always plainly present, even at night, its light reflected by the Moon and planets guided by solar gravity. It’s also about how Pluto’s just as pervasive as the Sun, but much less plainly, except when aspects serve to reveal it.

Astrology by Len Wallick

A trine aspect connects signs that share the same element (fire, earth, air or water). The name “trine” comes from the fact that each of the four elements is shared by three signs equidistant from each other on the zodiac circle of 12 signs. The tropical zodiac circle represents all there is, and the eternal cycles through all that is, some shorter, some longer.

The number and equidistance of signs sharing the same element mark the angles of an equilateral triangle arrangement between them, which represents the completion of a connection. Repeatedly, trines correlate to a connection, not through proximity, but through the conductive flow facilitated by a common element that is the next best thing to the proximity of a conjunction.

The phenomenon manifests repeatedly in the material world, establishing one of many demonstrable correlations from astrology to your tangible reality. It’s what allows you to have electricity far from where it was generated because of how there is an unbroken flow through conductive metal that functions to close the gap between you and the power plant. It’s how cetaceans can hear each other over oceanic distances, because of how water conducts the flow of sound so efficiently.

Similarly, an earth trine corresponds to connections that obviate the apparent distances between beings that have Earth in common according to the nature of the objects or points that constitute the aspect.

The deceptively succinct nature of the physical Sun is that which defines day. It’s also the sole source of light that reveals the rest of the solar system, and the source of gravity that makes the solar system possible in the first place.

The role played by the symbolic Sun of astrology (that bagel-like glyph you see on many zodiac charts) is similar. It represents the requisite consciousness that makes it possible for you to apprehend all that day and light reveals. It serves to illuminate that with which it connects through aspect. Hence, the earthly manifestation of any object or point in earth trine aspect from the Sun is more easily perceived.

Among other things, the symbolic Pluto of astrology manifests in your life as things which are not easily perceived. Part of that nature comes from the mythical deity Pluto, who had a trick helmet to render him invisible. Another part has to do with the material planet itself, which is very far away from both the Sun and Earth, far removed from your experience, and very nearly invisible for lack of sunlight to reflect at that distance.

That’s how Sunday’s solar trine to Pluto can be so useful. The aspect implies a connection opening, allowing the light of your consciousness to flow further and more brightly, illuminating that which is normally far from awareness, closing the illusory gap between you and all beings.

Simple awareness of Sunday’s solar trine to Pluto will almost certainly support a more conscious connection to all earthly events, regardless of how far away or difficult to perceive. The connection is real. It may not be pleasant for those who prefer distancing themselves from others, but it will be powerfully useful for those who are conscious of the fact that any form of distance is an illusion.

You are living in a powerful moment. Power is another thing associated with both Pluto and the Sun, and their impending trine will further illuminate your connection with power through choice. You can choose to exchange your power of perception for fear, which is useless except to blind you. You can also choose to deny your connection with all things, making you powerless, something you need not be.

Those we think of as powerful — governments, corporations, what have you — have only what power you give them. It is not too late to take back what power you have given away and connect yourself with others near and far who have done or are doing the same. You begin with awareness of just how luminous your consciousness can be, how far your light can travel and how much it can reveal. If there’s anything to astrology, this coming day named after the Sun will be a good time to start.

  1. Len – I took your advise to heart and action today. After many refusals, this morning i spoke on our little local radio station about issues of importance to me … nuclear power radiation of Fukushema and Monsanto, and how to address them locally. Also made a pitch for unity and vision to stand up and help our town from playing victim to corporate power.

I dont know if anyone listened, but I let the sun shine in on this Sunday as best as I could.

    thank you for your inspiration
    vince

  2. Strawberrylaughter- If I didn’t type out your whole name we’d lose the laughter, and I choose to include joy. Coming home to our body does take time, and it is an on-going journey. And it is also the secret to genuine spiritual growth, such evolution takes place in the body, for every hurt we heal, every insult we resolve, brings us closer to our center and our heart, and where are they located but within our body?

Your willingness to so plainly share your journey has inspired me, and I trust it has inspired other folks who read Planet Waves. Thank you!

  3. The thing about integrity, even one inch of it, is it will take you somewhere, even if you’re unaware – oh those early hours of the morning – i can’t stop laughing, very loud, i think the neighbours might start to complain…did i really write that!!!? yes, i did!!!

  4. Thank you, Chief Niwots Son. I think often of the intense reaction I had to your input months ago about Venus being in the body–there was good reason for that sense of being threatened, but following it & working through has been powerful for me, & at this stage at least, gives me so much more room to live. I’d heard all the “take up your space,” “get in your body” advice a gazillion times, but I couldn’t do it until I could do it. Thank you for being one of those voices showing the way. (And please do call me Strawberry–my full screen name is murder to type!) As always, I appreciate you immensely.

  5. eyes thred upon one double string,
the 4/4 of a tango motion,
    a guitar’s bright harmonic rings,
voices joined in service of devotion,
    fire-flies playing in candle-light shadows;
feet caressed in the shallow tides of oceans
that walk and march, a rhythm beat by palms
into the future, and your hand in my hand
    in your hand strengthened,
one inch, by one inch, and another, and another:
    connection.

  6. be: Thank you once again for being so very quick on the uptake and so sharply perceptive as to bring the lunar nodes in to make for a more complete picture. The quote from Donna Van Toen is as insightful as the title of her book is delightful.

elediamond: Welcome and thank you for your kind words. It is indeed one of the objectives of my service to make astrology understandable and accessible to all. It gives me joy to know that you have found my service useful in advancing your understanding. Your further trine interpretation sits well with me.

Strawberry: Thank you for keeping us up on your good work, and congratulations on your rapid progress.

aword: Thank you for your generous appraisal as well. In addition to making astrology accessible and understandable to all, my service also aims to provide the depth you describe. The refreshment probably has more to do with how you read with very deep comprehension, probably deeper than my own.

Chief Niwots Son: Many thanks to you as well for sharing your deep comprehension of true wealth and real power. Also, thanks once again for your generous support of Strawberry.

  7. Len- I always try to keep in mind that the name “Pluto” means “the wealthy one,” one whose wealth comes from claiming his shadow, from delving in the dark for the riches buried therein. Real wealth does not comes from accumulating Quatloos, as our corporate friends are discovering, real wealth comes from the deep work. And the result of the deep work is embodied power, the power over one’s dark instincts, not the power over the Other. I’m glad all this will come more fully into the Light this weekend.

Strawberrylaughter- Welcome home to your body and your self- I celebrate your success! And thanks again for your kind words last week, it is nice to have you in the Tribe.

  8. As do I Be, although at 2 degrees, my SN won’t be exactly sextile the Sun and Pluto. Whew. My weekend is already action-packed, and with both kids just back off to school, I shall be busy making my immediate world a better place 🙂

Natal Pallas is conjunct transiting SN at 9 Taurus completing the trine for me.

Wonderful, Len. I’m always able to take a deep deep dive with your writing, spend a little quality time there, and then resurface feeling considerably refreshed, more aware, better prepared to be present and accounted for in this world. Thank you.

  9. Topping off a week in which the Sun & Mercury passed through my Neptune square, Mars transited my Sun, and Venus transited my not-quite-but-building Uranus opposition, I just had an amazing day of beginning to integrate all of the energetic, spiritual, soul work I’ve been doing into my physical body. Grounding into it & feeling what it’s like to actually live here. I’ve been saying for ages that “in my body is a scary damn place to be.” That phase is in transition.

So. Much. Has gone into this. Literally years of work and preparation. And over the next few days the Sun will transit my progressed Sun, Mars & Pallas.

I can’t help but think of a line from Eric’s Cancer horoscope for August: “That seems to be the central message of the astrology: moving onto an entirely new level. It may look to others like your ship coming in. In reality what’s happening is an internal phenomenon based on your devoted contact with the truth of who you are.”

This is indeed a powerful moment.

  10. Hi Len
Great write up, and I love how you are so descriptive and detail oriented when explaining the aspects, such as: “A trine aspect connects signs that share the same element (fire, earth, air or water). The name “trine” comes from the fact that each of the four elements is shared by three signs equidistant from each other on the zodiac circle of 12 signs.”(I did not know this, you see, many call them trines, and tell you they are lucky and auspicious, but knowing why is the key for me, and you have answered it perfectly for me) this is what gives them the balance to be lucky is what I am feeling? I’ve been following Astrology now for 5 years, I am still at the beginning compared to you guys, and I love how you explain it all and make it make sense. Thanks Len -:) I also like the replies from everyone as they all have something else to contribute as well.

  11. No thanks. No more fear; I’ll keep my power of perception and share it with you Len, but not with corporations and their ilk. There’s another link that could make it even more easy to perceive Pluto on the earth plane this Sunday. . the south node. It will be in Taurus trine the Sun and Pluto, but that could be a bad thing just because it could be too easy to do the wrong thing – waste your time.

Donna Van Toen in her book “The Astrologers Node Book” says a Taurus south node could have a hang-up about power. Like, for instance, it could mean “an over-emphasis on money, things, or importance”. One of her suggestions is to become more active in community projects or other joint endeavors. She advises “developing the Scorpio north node’s potential for insight.” With this easy grand trine between Sun and Pluto, it might be the perfect time to let go (what is often the advice regarding the south node comfort zone path) of self-indulgence for a go at the Pluto-ruled Scorpio north node. Instead of indulging in another (advertised -big business driven) pair of shoes or whatever, make a contribution of your time or money or both to some worthwhile activity. After all, it is the Labor Day weekend, why not volunteer to help clean up the neighborhood, or paint a neighbor’s house, or take your elderly aunt to the grocery, or pick up her prescription from the drug store. The Sun and Pluto will also make nice to the Scorpio north node by sextile. It only requires the slightest bit of help on your part to make it happen.
(By the way I have a south node in Taurus myself!)
