Continue and Sustain – Venus In The Act

Venus in Leo continues and sustains yesterday’s big astrology with a fixed square to Saturn in Scorpio today (2:22 pm EDT/18:22 UT) and the same aspect to Mars in Scorpio at 11:46 am (15:46 UT) tomorrow. So, if you didn’t get it done yesterday, despair not. Rather, carry on just as Venus is doing.

Astrology by Len Wallick

Maybe you had to put aside getting things done in spite of yesterday’s encouraging conjunction of the Sun and Moon – this year’s Virgo New Moon. It’s okay. Perhaps you experienced delays or frustrations in spite of yesterday’s motivational Scorpio conjunction of Mars and Saturn. Do not beat yourself up.

Among the many things Venus in Leo can affirm, your value is foremost. If you’re reading this, you are here with us today. There is value in that simple miracle alone. Venus moving through fixed squares to yesterday’s power planets emblematically demonstrates how you should act to honor the pearl without price you truly are.

The key is for you to keep moving. Square aspects are resolved by action. Even though Venus is not normally associated with action, today and tomorrow would seem to be exceptions which, nonetheless, will require your active participation for the best possible outcome.

In order to keep moving, you must first take care of yourself. Getting as much sleep as you can, and eating as well as you are able are actions entirely consistent with Venus. Left unregulated however, those actions can become ends in themselves – the down side of Venus. That’s where you come in.

As always, you have a role to play with the planets in order to manifest their symbolism for the best possible outcome. When it comes to Venus, your part is to forestall indulgence and excess.

For example, you can get today’s Venusian square to Saturn working for you by eating for a purpose rather than solely for gratification. Try thinking of food as fuel, and select what you eat as if for that purpose, just for practice, just for today.

This is not to say you should deprive yourself of enjoyable food. To echo a proverb, bread alone will not sustain you. Instead, act to explore a more pragmatic relationship with food (or some other form of sustenance) as a simple, attainable practice for today that will allow you to better pick up where you left off yesterday and continue into tomorrow.

The same principle, albeit on a different level, applies when Venus moves on to square Mars tomorrow. The level Venus and Mars most often operate on is that of relationship.

Venus and Mars continuously express in your life as complementary archetypes. Venus is usually the receptive and the yin in relationship to Mars’ active yang. As in the case of all relationships, balance is important.

Once again, with Venus in the unusually active role of precipitating the square with Mars tomorrow, it is you who must provide the balance. In this case, a balance between rest and activity would probably be an appropriate focus.

For example, without your awareness and participation, you might very well be inclined to indulge the tension of Venus’ approach to square Mars tomorrow by staying up far too late tonight. The result, of course, would put you and your ability to relate out of balance.

Or, conversely, you could be tempted to avoid any unpleasantness by sleeping to excess tomorrow. In practice, however, sleeping in or otherwise hiding out does not resolve square aspects, functioning only to sustain and continue your discomfort unnecessarily.

This is not to say you should beat yourself up if sleep will not come tonight. Nor should you fan the fires of tension by getting aggravated if you oversleep a bit tomorrow. Instead, do what you can to prepare a simple and attainable practice now.

Begin by not sabotaging yourself. Turn off the electronics tonight. Eschew the alcohol. Assuming you can do so comfortably, lie down at a sensible time. Otherwise, make yourself comfortable to the extent possible.

Let tomorrow go for the evening. Tell yourself that for tonight, at least, taking care of your sleep is the most important thing for the sustenance and continuity of your relationships tomorrow. Tell yourself without pressure. Tell yourself with assurance.

For, while yesterday’s astrology was a grand time to begin and an auspicious time to do, such days are not behind you. There will be more New Moons. Venus will make its own conjunction with Saturn in November, on the other side of October’s profound astrology. Then, come February, Venus and Mars will conjoin on the Aries Point for the most auspicious beginning in many a Moon.

Whether or not yesterday was a big day, you were not left behind. You are here today. That is good. The idea is for you to continue so as to not only witness but contribute on big days yet to come. Thanks to Venus, there is continuity and sustenance in the sky. Thanks to you, it can be so on Earth, beginning with sustaining your self.

  1. Slept in too long and missed my teeth cleaning appointment with my dentist. But when the office called to inquire, they offered me another opportunity that I was able to take. I have been neglecting my fangs for awhile (2.5 years) and now need to have two cavities filled. Speaking of taking care of oneself. I jokingly told the dentist’s assistant that it was the dentist’s fault. “Don’t tell him but I stopped coming because I thought he had gotten bored with me,” I said. “He stopped sending me flowers and chocolate.” OK, I didn’t say that last part.

Actually, for the most part in my life right now, I am experiencing the benefits of showing up consistently. A real peace of mind while taking (overall) good care of myself, and the resulting space for myself after getting those ‘have tos’ done. I seem to be in remission from the procrastination and FEAR virus and their depressing attributes. No permanence in this world, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

  2. yoniyoganidra: Speaking of love. i love your eminently musical yet practical idea of “begin again”. Thank you for sharing your inspiration here!

  3. Thank you, Holly. Hope that online class served to connect you with the astrology and got your school term off to a great start.

    P. Sophia: Thank you for having the courage to share your experience. May we all be nourished by your good example in the same way your kind words have fortified me.

be: Thank you! As always, you find just the right words. For today the asteroid 81 Terpischore (named after the muse-goddess of dance) is applying through Gemini to sextile Venus very closely. Thank you also for sharing your instructive heart-over-head decision making experience. Most of all, thank you for the retrospective analysis of the Virgo New Moon aspects and the divine perspective on humanity. i always knew you were a Goddess!

Mike: Welcome to Planet Waves. Thank you so very much for sharing your personal example of prevailing through continuance in order to better sustain yourself.

DivaCarla: All the good and more power to you! If i had access to lobster, prosecco, a camera, and a swim in the sea, i would probably have taken it as a sign and done the same. The ambient astrology does not work the same for everybody. Thank you for showing us how to go with the hoary flow as well as the mundane implications.

Lizzy: Thank you for holding up your share of the sky. We love what you share here!

  4. Thanks Len. How beautiful…”Begin by not sabotaging yourself.”

In the improv dance practice I love, we have a concept called “Begin Again”.

When what we’re doing is not working, we employ the “begin again” moment and move forward. And we employ that moment as many times as needed to stay present, aware and in motion. I liken it to your wise council of “begin by not sabotaging yourself.”

I loved your representation of as in heaven so on earth …”beginning with sustaining your self.”

  5. Hmm. Food is the name of the game while back home taking care of the folks – it’s great to see my mother’s appetite return (and a little weight) as I cook us good and nourishing meals. I wish they had this care and food every day of the year. Though my father’s doing a fantastic job.
Thank you, as ever, dear Len.
Love your post DivaCarla , made me dream…..

  6. Len, Venus square the big dudes means all that? I am breaking the rules. It is too late to go to bed early… and too late to turn off the electronics. I ate hedonistically today: rare local burger, chocolate milkshake, ice cream, chocolate, and I just sucked some lobster legs dry at 11 pm. Too late to avoid alcohol. Lobster goes down great with prosecco. Venus rules because I started my day photographing dewy nasturtiums, and I finished with a night swim in the ocean with phosphorescence bright enough to read by. I am over-delighted, over-stimulated, and awake until I calm down and sleep It’s all about Venus.

  7. I love this Len, it relates to a feeling I had today. I had an appointment 8 AM to have some blood-work done, but I overslept a bit. My typical reaction would have been to call, and cancel the appointment. Instead I did exactly what you speak of, took it easy on myself, and reminded myself I would make the appointment if I ‘kept moving’. I was late, but at least it’s over and done with.

  8. Hey Len, you’re right, we can’t always follow through on our plans the way we planned them these days; at least regarding their timing. I’ve wondered if that was on purpose. You know, like maybe the Universe might be using the gods and goddesses to (symbolically) re-direct our intentions in such a way as to teach us how to use both sides of our brain simultaneously. Like dancing. We can intellectually learn the steps, but until we incorporate the feel of dancing, we ain’t dancin’.

I know I was waylaid yesterday in a project I’d been planning since the Aquarian full moon, but I had to choose two from four must-do things requiring my time and energy, along with additional delaying tactics not factored in. I made heart choices over head choices – totally illogical choices as a matter of fact, and the thing is, it really felt good! Now in hindsight, I can see the benefits (in a logical way) that I couldn’t see at the time. Go figure!

Might it be that Mars, in some cases, provided the push that only Mars could do, but for unintended purposes? You know, mental Mercury WAS sextile Mars and Saturn, but he was also opposite Chiron. Then too, Mercury, Mars and Saturn were all making quincunxes to Uranus, and you know what that means. Unexpected adjustments! Finally, as only the Universe could do, it provided a get-a-way trine for Saturn and Mars from Chiron (awwww), while Venus got an unexpected trine from Uranus. So where’s the harm in re-shuffling the schedule a little? Maybe Mars and Saturn did help some wounded soul instead of following through on those Virgo New Moon plans. Maybe Venus got an unexpected opportunity to show her creative side in a new way, and maybe – in some cases – they all worked to benefit one another.

I noticed that Ceres trined Neptune today a couple of hours before Venus squared Saturn and wondered if that too didn’t throw a curve ball into some Virgo plans. Maybe the Nourisher (Ceres) looked the other way while Neptune made some unwholesome temptations available that weren’t on the Virgo menu. Maybe Venus pulled her punch with Saturn today for going counter to the Virgo plan yesterday. Maybe the gods and goddesses are chuckling among themselves as they marvel at what fools we mortals can be. Well intended, yes, but fools for denying their feelings from the plans. Well, as Scarlett would say, I’ll think about that tomorrow.

  9. Yes Len it seems like such a little thing, but eating is nourishing ouselves. I have had a bad habit of going most days until 2:00 or 3:00 without eating, just running on coffee. Which of course was a part of a pattern of neglect really. It did not really hit my awareness until I was seeing a iridologist up in Shata a weekend back when she commented my blood sugar was so low.

It took myself opening up to a healer for me to recognize and change my perspective. From that day forward, for over a week now I have given up coffee and I am forcing myself to eat in the am. Eating is just another form of self acceptance, nurturing, taking care of yourself. And recognizing does constitute..A Big Day! Likewise I have quite come to recognize all the squares and oppositions, challenges in my life now as opportunities to walk towards in courage, face now (not tomorrow) and accept it may not be a perfect act or representation, and that’s ok. But without owning care (and certainly if held out in fear) there is not love there.

P.S. Sleep is another one to tackle. I love sleep, but I also love reading and get so caught up in studying it often goes on past late night. As my lovely astrologer prescribed, i will work on and lights out early tonight : ). Best thoughts and gratitude to you Len!

  10. Funny that you mentioned needing proper sleep. I will try for tomorrow I will be starting school. The twist is that the class is online, so it will be slightly easier for me. Human Biology, people. Venus and Mars are in my 12th and 3rd house respectively. So exciting!

  11. Carlos: May peace (and your gift for writing) be fully with you, whether awake or asleep. Thank you for being here.

Lady Terra: And a good friend to Planet Waves you have shown yourself to be. Thank you so very much.

  12. Greetings Len:

Thank you for your kind and prompt response.

Yes…being born w/ a Chart filled w/ Squares and Trines (in which all of the Planets & Constellations of the First and Twelfth Houses are Retrograde) gives me a unique insight–regarding your perspective.

We have been making radical changes–especially over the past 5 months–so I suppose that the only answer is to persevere and continue to put one foot in front of the other–until the opposing energy is thwarted! ;-D

Peace and Love on your path to helping others begin to see the Light at the end of the tunnel…

    Blessed be…

    Ever your friend,

    LadyTerra

  13. kate: It is for me to thank you. The fact is, i don’t know for sure. With every attempt to write in your service, doubt lingers until i receive word from people like you. People kind enough to comment and let me know. Experience allows me to empathize with your vertigo, by the way. Thank you so very much for being among those whose actions serve to heal it.

Dorothy: Thank you, and welcome to Planet Waves. Your generous appraisal is appreciated beyond measure. To simply know that my service is associated with better things for you makes a big, big difference for me.

    Craig: You are very welcome.

Lady Terra: Thank you so much for your kind associations as well. You got my appetite going, that’s for sure. As to you question – one thing nearly always for sure is that square aspects do not resolve themselves. Action is required. That’s a blessing, really. Yes, contrary to their commonly purveyed reputation, square aspects (whether natal or transiting) are a blessing. Simply being aware of them goes a long way toward the growth of understanding both yourself and the world in which we live. Going further and proactively working to resolve squares helps you to know what stuff is your stuff (rather than projecting it on others) and motivates you to act on it, which then results in a further evolution of what is timeless and priceless within you. Granted, some natal squares constitute a lifetime’s work, but worthy work it is. Natal chart progressions can help guide you. Please, is my answer useful and satisfactory?

  14. Greetings Len:

All of the current activity is hindering our plans for the major life-style change we are working towards–so (with the New Harvest Moon) we continued to make small (immediately attainable) changes…you predicted it…in our diet! LOL ;-D

Today’s breakfast consisted of homemade trail mix (whole grain cereal, raisins, & shelled peanuts) w/ steaming hot coffee.

For lunch–we are having Vegan Pea Soup (split peas, bell peppers–red, yellow, & orange, garlic, green onion, coarse black pepper, and tomato/spinach/whole-wheat couscous)–homemade (whole-wheat) bread (w/ dates and unsalted sunflower seed kernels) and orange slices.

Tonight we top it all off w/ Bean & Cheese Tostadas–complete w/ raw cabbage, tomatoes, and homemade Serrano & Cilantro Salsa.

    Bon Appetit…Everyone!

So…Len…when are all these Squares in my Chart going to begin dissipating?

    Ever your friend,

    LadyTerra

  15. Len, thank you for your encouragement and care as you interpret astrology to guide us. The alchemy of knowledge, wisdom and compassion, expressed with eloquence, always provides the light to a higher level of living and I am all the better for having read your message every time. Blessings.

  16. Len, how did you know? Thank you.

Have been taking great care of myself – food, drink, sleep, understanding, encouragement, rest, work. Then yesterday, (that conjunction – conjunct my Moon and Neptune in 4th, trine Sat and Chiron in Pisces 8th, trine Sun in Cancer 11th, square a lot of things elsewhere) and I woke up with severe vertigo, unable to stand or walk. Coincidence? Yet that also happened when Saturn first came into Scorpio all those months ago. WTF. All the water in my head, in my ear canals.

    Starting again today. And tomorrow.
