We have a pair of inner planet / outer planet oppositions in play right now — and “play” may be the operative word when it comes to manifesting their combined energies in a positive way. The aspect with perhaps the wider orb is the Virgo Sun opposite Neptune in Pisces, which is exact tomorrow. We also have Venus in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries sparking things up (exact today).
It can be easy to think of oppositions (such as the Full Moon) as always being about interpersonal tension and polarization. We forget sometimes that any kind of confrontation, including an opposition, is at heart an encounter or a meeting between two things.
At their best, encounters such as oppositions can flow like dances: two distinct energies (or people) come together and find points of contact, balance, give and take. They join and separate. The idea is not for one to get subsumed by the other, but for moments of unity to be counterbalanced by the individual intentions, visions, rhythms or tones of those involved. In this way, the sum of a dance can be greater than its parts, and is far more alive than a ‘lowest common denominator’ type of exact sameness or complete agreement.
The Sun in Virgo opposite Neptune in Pisces is like a big, extra-mystical Full Moon — one that is urging you to manifest your creativity in some real, tangible form. That’s the Virgo part of the equation: real-life experience; tangible steps; practice; the craft involved in making things. Pisces brings the inspiration and imagination, the emotional resonance and especially with Neptune involved, a slightly clairvoyant or paranormal aura. The Sun lets it all come through our normal waking consciousness.
Creative expression requires us to work both sides of the equation; there is art (Pisces) and craft (Virgo). You need to give your imagination room to roam while also doing the things (playing musical scales, trying all the settings on your camera, writing three pages every day, etc.) that will give you the skills and focus to play with what your imagination offers you.
The Sun in Virgo offers the ordinary, basic materials, technical skill and mental focus needed. Neptune in Pisces offers non-ordinary sources of information — and the passion needed to listen to it and give it a whirl, however ‘out there’ it may sound.
This is being bolstered or mirrored by Venus opposite Uranus. Eric commented in conversation, “That’s a perfect example of a kind of paranormal inspiration: Venus manifesting as iconoclast. Don’t worry about being different — be you, do what moves you.”
If oppositions are about encounters with others, and Venus in Libra brings the theme of romance, Uranus may simply show up as someone eccentric between your sheets. The funny thing is, that person could end up being you.
A weird non sequitur said in the heat of passion (or while goofing around after sex) might not only show your true individuality or revolutionary mind. It could prove to be the inspiration for a character in a play or novel, or a surreal painting, or the most gorgeously surprising song lyrics ever.
Go play. Dance with whomever (or whatever) is showing up to encounter you. If you keep practicing the basic steps, you’ll be able to feel the music and let it carry you — possibly to someplace new and surprising.

Stormi – yeah, well, Santa Fe isn’t as enlightened as we like to think we are sometimes.
just spent the weekend maji*crafting for my birthday (yesterday) with my piscean mom, and this definitely applies in how we played and created all weekend, as well as how we danced through our ‘natural’ oppositions.
and thanks for the shout out to Doña Ana Hazel1, had to laugh at how upset you northerners were that you didn’t do it first! 😉
yeti — thank you for adding the tai ji perspective, both here and under elisa’s post. wonderful wisdom to share.
To me this ties in perfectly with whats been happening here in New Mexico with gay marriage. Last week Dona Ana county, way down south, let gay couples marry and then last Friday Santa Fe county, where I live, started letting gay couples marry and today a judge ordered Bernalillo county, which is the largest county in New Mexico, to start issuing gay marriage licenses. I hope we continue to “feel the music and let it carry you – possibly to someplace new and surprising”.
Oppositions: Heaven qi descends through crown, Earth qi rises through feet, bones, perineum, meet in Dan Tian. Human stands in a qi cultivation posture face to face with a tree: it feels like the tree remembers the practice since the tai ji community are the only people who stand long enough, without spacing out for the tree to notice. Virgo spreads the roots, restrains the monkeys so that the waves from Pisces can dissolve the monster dramas trapped in our sacred temples. I meet monsters who freaked me out when I followed the Thelemites and enflamed myself with prayer. Now when they rise the meet the rising tide of qi. Stand like a tree, walk a circle, stand, motion and stillness interchange, there’s nowhere for the monsters to hide. Opposition only become war when you choose sides.
What an amazing achievement, Amanda. You bring us down to Earth and out from under something or other at the same time. Thank you so very much.

“. . .simply show up as someone eccentric between your sheets. The funny thing is, that person could end up being you.”
I was told years ago to “never sleep with anyone crazier than you are.”
Good thing you have given an alternative view of oppositions as possible beneficial encounters, since I have to sleep with me. 😉
With Tr Uranus opposing my natal Venus and Saturn, the encounter should be interesting, and all very helpful in working on that vision assignment from Len last week.
Thank you, Amanda, for a “keeper” explanation of oppositions. And, the picture is awesome. Good to see your art work again.

Amazingly coincident that the BBC should run this item about the Venus Project on the day of that planet’s opposition to Uranus. A beautiful vision of future living from 97-year-old architect Jacque Fresco.
